Larger women in bikinis?

This doesn't sound like it comes from someone who doesn't care:
IMOP if the size of you bathing suit is double digits then you probably shouldn't be wearing bikini! A one piece, tankini, a two piece with a skirt yes string bikini NOOOOOO!!! Sorry but it is gross and I cringe every year when we head out to pool on post because young Army wives are the worst offenders!! If I can see your csection scar your swimsuit is probably not appropriate for a public pool!

To me, it sounds like someone who gave HIS OPINION. Same as you.

Nowadays it seems like some not only disagree with others opinions, they disagree with the notion that someone else should even HAVE an opinion.

I'm at the point in my life that I don't really care what anyone else looks like. If they are happy with how they look, then more power to them. If you don't like how someone looks, then advert your eyes or read a book.

Life's too short.

So YOU don't have to look at them? Maybe while you are out on the beach you should just be concerned with yourself instead of making sure everyone elses wardrobe choice meets your specifications. If they aren't embarrassed, why should you be for them :confused3

Oh, and there is nothing giant about a size 10. ;)

i've recently lost a significant amount of weight, but i was a size 10. and it was NOT a pretty size 10. i carry my extra weight around my middle (small hips/bottom). i most definitely would not have been attractive sporting a bikini. i most definitely would've had a large muffin top hanging over.

even now, i look better in a full coverage bottom that comes up over my c-section scar. nobody needs to see that!

but that's more to do with ME and my comfort level. i think others can wear what they want, regardless of if it's flattering or not.

i've seen some fashion magazine swimsuit spreads using size 10-14 models and those ladies looked a gazillion times better than the models with ribs showing!

You still didn't answer my question, why do you care what someone else wears to the beach? How does it effect you?
You said you are embarrassed for them, yet clearly they are not embarrassed themselves, so really why should they not wear a bikini (that is your opinion, correct) if doesn't effect you personally? You said they should cover things up because it was inappropriate not to. I'm just trying to figure out why someone would have that opinion when it doesn't effect them in any way shape or form.

Because while it does not affect me personally there is a sense of decorum that we should follow in public places. I think you are reading too much into my opinions on this subject. It is just like the thread here months ago about offensive tshirts while no one is personally affected by it but it it was the opinion of many that it is just rude to subject people in public places to these shirts and yes having your lady parts hanging out in public because your bikini is two sizes to small is inappropriate which is why we have laws about indecency. What I see is you aren't in agreement with my opinions which is fine but because they are not your opinions they are wrong and I can't see how that makes you any better then me.

:thumbsup2

especially if that opinion is different.

No one was talking about wearing bikinis that are 2 sizes too small, were they? You do know that bikinis come in plus sizes, a large lady could get one that fits ;)

Again bikinis are made to show as much skin as possible so a large woman wearing one will look like she squeezed into one that is two sizes to small! It is the nature of the beast when it comes to a bikini!

Go naked if you want to but don't cry when you end up on the people of wAl mart or fat girls in bikinis!

What kind of person would take a picture of a stranger at the beach or a pool and post it for the sake of calling them fat? :confused3

And then you say "Don't cry when your picture is posted and people are calling you names":faint: As if somebody deserves to be bullied because of what they wear?

What kind of person are you to say such a thing?

There really isn't that much more fabric to a one piece. The belly is covered. That's it. And, honestly, if you have a bigger tummy, it can be seen in a one piece as well.

I am very thin and somewhat pale. I look terrible in a bikini and would never feel comfortable wearing one at a public beach or pool.

My partner has beautiful, dark skin. She is a gym rat, yet a size 12. She is has a solid, larger framed body. I think she looks amazing in a bikini. I would be heart broken if somebody took her picture and posted on a public website so they could call her fat:(

Unfortunately there are websites dedicated to making fun of people at the beach, the pool, Wal Mart, Disney, and now there is a new one covering the so called fashion disasters at the PX/ Commissary! I am not advocating for these websites just pointing out that they are there which is all the more reason why we should dress with a sensible level of decorum for fear you may end up on the cover of one!

Um, you said "but don't cry when you end up on the people of wAl mart or fat girls in bikinis!"

Why shouldn't someone who is being harrassed by a stranger who took their picture have a right to cry about that? Seems like you are saying: "If you don't have a perfect body, you may end up on a website that makes fun of you. Don't cry. You deserve it!"

Hmm, a quick Google search for full coverage bikini bottoms/tops yielded lots of results for bottoms that are cut longer on the sides, fully cover the butt, and come up higher on the stomach. Clearly, they are not designed to show as much skin as possible. :confused3 When a string bikini comes in a size 14, but a fuller bottomed one also comes in a size 14, the argument is moot and clearly indicates that it is the design of the bikini that determines how much is to be shown.

I am truly sorry for having offended anyone. I was not referring to "skinny girls". I meant girls who are legitimately unhealthy underweight. I personally find it very unattractive when I can count every one of your ribs. Yet that is somehow more acceptable in our society than some one being a size 8. It drives me crazy. I feel this society pressures women into feeling like they have to be a size two or they are just hideous. It's a pet peeve of mine. Again, I apologize for offending anyone. Not my intent. But again, no one should care what I think anyway. If you are underweight but feel you are healthy and attractive, good for you. My opinion shouldn't matter.

Thank you for the apology. My daughter has been called names for how thin she is, but she CANNOT gain weight! No matter how much she eats, she has always been very thin. My point is, name calling isn't ever ok. Even if a girl is anorexic, she has a serious health problem and doesn't deserve ridicule. I guess it was your choice of words that got me, but I do appreciate your apology:)

Look, it really comes down to the culture in which you were raised.

I was raised in the early 60s in a very "Ozzie&Harriet" type of mindset. You dressed for your body type. Being severely underweight or severely overweight is not generally pleasing so you should dress in a way that does make you attractive and you always work to hide your flaws and accentuate your positives.

Others were raised that what you look like does not matter, wear what makes you feel happy.

Whatever camp you're in, you think the other person is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Truth is, there is a nice middle ground.

I think some of the "olden days" rules were stodgy but there is still some value to them. I like some of the new "freedoms" in clothing that women have that we didn't 30 years ago.

However, I do think people should still be mindful of how they look in public to some degree and they should strive not to scare the children!

To each their own. If I don't like the way something looks I don't do it in regards to myself, but if they don't care why would I?!

I don't find either sex being heavily overweight during swimsuit season very appealing.

I agree, I feel like anyone should wear anything they want, I don't have a problem with it, but if their weight is that bad to where its even a question, I would only say that I would advise the person to really try hard to work on it, it is not healthy and they are potentially subtracting years on their life if they don't take it seriously and start to get a handle on it.

You would tell a stranger this?

A jerk. Sadly, there are lots of them around lately.

Unfortunately there are websites dedicated to making fun of people at the beach, the pool, Wal Mart, Disney, and now there is a new one covering the so called fashion disasters at the PX/ Commissary! I am not interested in giving jerks that kind of power. They don;t get to control me--and I think it is sad to encourage others to dress to make the jerks of the world happy. It is very much a blame the victim kind of thing on a small scale.

Really? I don't see that. Here are several photos of plus sized women in bikinis, that all came up near the top of the page in a google search. Do you really get that feel from them? And if so, you don't get that same feel from skinny women in bikinis? :confused3
