Larger women in bikinis?

Covering up is not silly if your religion or personal beliefs require it. I am a modest-dressing Christian and my daughter and I cover from elbows to knees when on the beach. My sons do as well. I don't judge others who are not as covered and hate when people judge me. I've gotten my fair share of stares, laughing, and pointing - I try to ignore that, but it can still be painful.

I'm sorry that happens to you. It's just not right.

Well around here you can buy a bikini at Walmart or Meijer for $10 but a plus size one piece is $40 or you can get a tankini for $30 each piece. $10 or $60? I can see why some would end up buying the bikini.

I just came back from a trip to WDW and Clearwater Beach. I saw people of all shapes and sizes in swimwear: from a thong-type (but a little thinker back) bikini on an older, heavier woman to my own size 1 DD in a Victoria's Secret bikini  to a couple of (I think) Muslim women in modest swimsuits complete with attached head coverings. I wore a one-piece with a little attached skirt. Everyone seemed to be having a good time.
I don't care what others wear but good gravy, please keep men away from Speedos.
My DD is on swim team, so seeing men in Speedo briefs is not a big deal. FWIW, I think that many men look very nice in european syle square leg suits. They are bigger than briefs but made out of the same material instead of bulky soggy swim trunks.

I'm curious how everyone here feels about overweight women and bathing suits. Do you think it's ok for overweight/obese women to wear a bikini top
and swim shorts? By swim shorts I don't mean the fitted "boy short bottoms," but more sporty running short shaped swim shorts.

To me, it's no different than overweight/obese men wearing swim trunks. Is it different to you? If you think overweight women shouldn't wear bikini tops, do you think overweight men should wear tshirts or rash guards to swim in?

Doesn't bother me a bit what someone else is wearing as long as they have anything that should be covered, covered.
Honestly I don't really pay attention either way. I know on my cruises normally I do wear my bikini top with a swim skirt bottom, don't like it, don't look.

I am overweight and still enjoy wearing a bikini. I am sometimes self conscious but only around family, if I don't know them then I don't care.

It doesn't bother me. I just don't like when I see bathing suits (regardless of the shape and size of the person) that don't fit. I don't need to see all you have personally.
I am a bigger gal and fairly modest so I prefer wearing clothing that fits me/ covers properly. If you are comfortable in your skin and are pooh sized and want to wear a bikini go for it :thumbsup2

I don't care what anyone else wears.

The only thing I would ask is that if your ta-ta's are dragging on the sidewalk, please wear something with support. Think of the children! Otherwise, whatever makes you happy.

I agree about the men in Speedos not being a good look, especially if the men are hairy and obese.

I know you're exaggerating, but why does it bother you if women's breasts are saggy?

Having reached the "one-piece-skirted-swimsuit-age" many years ago (I get my swimsuits from Omar the Tentmaker these days), I could never wear a bikini myself, but frankly I don't give a darn what anyone else wears (or doesn't wear, on certain beaches). If the sight is hard on the eyes, I just don't look in that direction. I'm all for people being happy and comfortable.

It doesn't bother me but I find it very unattractive. If you look like you have udders more than breasts, especially in a string bikini with no support, perhaps you should find something with a more flattering fit.

There was a woman like that on Castaway Cay and in all seriousness, they were down to her belly button. Also, her pannus hung lower than the front of her bikini, so she looked naked.

I've seen all body types during my nursing career and it doesn't phase me but if you're hanging out at the public pool, just try to clean up a bit. If you choose not to, well, that's ok, too.

I think people should wear whatever they feel comfortable in. No needs approval from anyone else. They have just as much right to wear a bikini as nasty anorexic chicks. Personally, I find confidence much more attractive than any physical attribute. I have "not skinny" friends who rock bikinis and I think they look amazing because a) they look like a real person and not a barbie or toothpick and I think that is beautiful and b) I find their confidence extremely attractive.

People should wear what they want and never let anyone feel bad about themselves or feel they are not good enough to wear any particular clothing.

You apparently don't mean ALL people since, ironically, you have no problem insulting the skinny girls. I guess only overweight people deserve respect and tolerance? My daughter is naturally very thin, and it's hurtful to be called names either way.

You know what makes me uncomfortable- Hearing people put others down based on appearances. If you don't like it avert your eyes.

Sure people should dress in something figure flattering- but I think it's sad some people feel so embarrassed that they don't get out in the water.

Which is why I spent all my birthday money getting fabulous pieces- when I could have gone to Costco instead. I still would go swimming.

1) Should people be able to wear what they want? Yes.
2) Will my belief that they should wear whatever they want stop me from raising an occasional eyebrow and thinking "What was she thinking?" Nope.

I think most people try to find clothing that flatters them. I have seen heavy women pull off a bikini fine. I have seen thin women look bad in one. I am not sure it is necessarily the size of the person, rather it is the choice of the bathing suit.

But, please, let's vote for an international ban on men wearing Speedos. Too much information.

I probably agree with this more than anything.

Wear whatever you want and I'll think whatever I want. I probably lean more towards out of shape people should stay away from bikinis. I would not wear a bikini unless my stomach was flat. That's just me.

Why wouldn't it be okay? :confused3

I wore bikinis when I was heavy (not obese) and I wear them now when I am perfect bmi and I wore them at 23 when I was underweight. I never cared what anyone thought including two young "ladies" who wondered quite loudly in my earshot if my ****s were natural or not. FYI they erroneously concluded they were fake.
other people's opinions are irrelevant. I am comfortable in my own body and I love men in short trunks.

Not sure what your point is with starting this discussion. Are you trying to show how politically correct you are or, are you, yourself obese? Just wondering.
