Kona Dinner menu change

 ...
no Mahi Mahi or kilueau tart!!!
We're eating there next week and I was looking forward to trying them both...

Oh well, the new menu looked pretty good to me.

Thanks to quiltymom, here is a pic of the new Ono dish. It's a mild fish, similar to mahi, only firmer fleshed.

I don't really get the bitterness with Kona in the removal of mahi. It's a dish that you can find at every casual themed restaurant at home on scale with Cheesecake Factory these days. When I hear that mahi's the "fresh fish of the day" at any restaurant we go to, I always figure the place is just phoning in the selection. I'm glad they've changed the selections up a bit and Ono is a great alternative.

What the mickey ears is going on?! At first I saw the changes and thought Whew! My dish is still on there and reading all the complaining.... I seriously thought relax folks... but then it dawned my me, what if they change the dessert menu? I went over to Allears and sure enough they did!!! I can't even spell what it was I LOVED there ... like Creme b .... and now it's gone!

What is wrong with disney to remove my fav dessert??! :sad2: Seriously disappointed BIG time!!!! I hate the desserts on there now.

You mean the creme brulee? It is still there. I dont' think AllEars updated the dessert part of the menu, because what they have doesn't match the most recent reports here.

There's pic of the new menu on this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1619244&referrerid=&highlight=kona

What's special about the creme brulee at Kona? Don't they serve that everywhere?

ETA: Nevermind. After reading another thread, I see that it's actually a banana creme brulee but that it is indeed still on the menu.

Hold your breath...it has a BANANA ON IT!!! WOW!! ;)

Honestly, I'd be more than thrilled if they did away with all of these ubiquitous menu selections that you find at every restaurant these days (ie creme brulee, mahi, prime rib) and brought out a few new, more adventurous selections. I think when people are on vacation, they're willing to try more unique things than they will at home at their neighborhood Red Robin...or maybe it's just me.

Ohhh thank you! All is well with life again. I called hubby and we panicked- actually we were going to change to Concourse steak house... but now we'll stay put. :goodvibes

The banana cream creme brulee is soooooooOOOOooo good, I wanted to take my clothes off and roll all in it naked!

This thread cracks me up...

Since the advent of the DDP, there have been tons of people lamenting the lack of variety between the different TS restaurants at WDW. Now that Kona has updated their menu with some new choices people are lamenting the fact that the menu has changed. Poor Disney - they can never win.

Guys, I just returned from WDW today. Kona was our crowned jewel!! We even cancelled Chef Mickeys so we could eat there twice!

I will do a full review but my DH and I ordered: crab cakes, sticky wings, the filet and torte, macadamia dessert, cheese cake and fondu (same appetizers and entrees but different desserts ;) ). OMG......it is heaven absolute heaven. My DS had the child's grilled chicken with marinara pasta, fruit and sundae and he proclaimed it the best meal evah!

I can't wait to go back.

To be fair, only some people are lamenting the changes. Our family enjoyed the new choices as did others who have actually experienced the new menus.

I do think people develop firm favorites at WDW. We tend to associate certain dishes with wonderful family vacations. I know we still miss a breakfast drink that Kona and its predecessor served for many years. Our tradition was to start every vacation with breakfast there and we so enjoyed the Pink Leilanis. I still think of them and associate it with the excitement of a WDW vacation.

Me, too. I keep reading through this thread (and others like it) and thinking, don't most of these people eat out 90% of the time at restaurants like Olive Garden and Applebee's? They shouldn't exactly be shocked at the dumbing/blanding down of the WDW menus.

Kona is nothing at all like Applebee's or Olive Garden both of which have tasteless, bland food IMO. I avoid both like the plague.

What items on the new menu seem dumb or bland to you?:confused3

The last time that SO and I went down to WDW was the first time that we stayed, and ate extensively, on property. And I was amazed (not in a good way) how creme brulee had a stranglehold on the WDW dessert menus. I mean, really, it's one of the safest, least creative desserts a restaurant can serve (along with molten chocolate cake and cheesecake... and the Bravo! chain even features a "creme brulee cheesecake" :headache: ). As I said before, I applaud Kona Cafe's decision to shake up their menu, and I wish more WDW restaurants would follow suit.

You misunderstood my point, which was that it seems that many of the posters on this thread are lamenting Kona's decision to shake things up a bit; to get away from the blandness.
