Kona Dinner menu change

I told my DH about the change and he said that's ok, there is probably another fish dish that would be ok. :confused3 WTH? Where is the outrage, where is the dismay? Who is this man and doesn't he know he is supposed to be indignant?:lmao:

I bet he would like that Ono fish. I will have to tell him about that (when I am ready to speak to him again, of course ;))

I had the shrimp and scallops last time and the server told me I could have the shrimp not fried, but cooked like the scallops. It was SO much better that way. I guess I will live with the changes:sad2: (But I will miss the chowder too!)

No the desserts were the same :goodvibes

Somebody on another thread said that the Kileuea Torte is completely different. They showed a picture of it being more like a blondie and it contained absolutely no chocolate. This seemed really weird to me. Is the description on the menu the same of the Kileuea Torte? Has anyone had it since the menu change?

There Ceasar salad was my favorite anywhere! Now we will not be going back :sad2: We are going to have to try somewhere new.

I asked if they could make me one and the server said no, they do not have the caesar salad dressing available to them anymore but made me this killer salad with ranch dressing, it was awesome!

THey did not have detailed descriptions of the desserts on the menu..not that I recall. The only dessert I saw was the couple behind me got this fruit and chocolate fondue thing, it was small but looked good. I think that maybe that was new??

Hey, BCV23! We were there last Thursday night too! We were seated around 8:15 or so. Were you there at that time?

We loved the crab cakes and sticky wings. My DD and niece had the Pan Fried Noodles and loved them! My sister and niece split the coconut-almond chicken and said it was great. I had the shrimp and scallops - just OK. DH and DS had the filet and inhaled it. I'm sure I would have had the mahi-mahi but I didn't realize what I was missing since this was our first visit. It was on of our best meals.

Hi minniesota! Our reservation was 6:50 so we could very well have still been there as you were seated! Yes, isn't the food good there?! Service is too.

I am very disappointed that the Mahi-Mahi is off the menu!!!! I am going to change my ADR for Kona now. That was my favorite dish there.

I'm excited about the changes! I can't wait to try the Ono on November 24. My husband is fine as long as they keep the crabcakes.

Wow I am so disappointed. We all loved the Kona Chowder and my dh loved the mahi mahi. The only think I am happy that is gone is the Turkey Medallions. One of our teen ds got those and no one would eat them, that is how bad they were. I didnt notice but did they change any of the desserts, or just the appetizers and entrees for dinner? Gee whats next, good bye kiddie kone? I think I might send a little e mail expressing my disappointment.

The Bamboo steamed Ono sounds interesting..I hope someone shows up with some pictures soon. :goodvibes
Strange that they should take the Mahi off the menu, it seemed so popular.

Actually, based on my mother's opinion, I'd stay away from the Ono. I just got back from my trip, and we had dinner there Wednesday night (Oct 17). When she asked about the Ono and they said it was "whitefish", she thought it wouldn't have been so....hard. She thought it had very little flavor, too.

So she had the Pomegranate BBQ pork chop instead, and she thought it was the best, most tender pork chop she ever had. (I'm going to write a food report sometime soon, but that's her .02) I tasted it, and it was delicious.

I had the prime rib, my sister had the beef teriyaki, and my Mom's friend had the Coconut-Almond chicken. All of us thought our meals were tasty, with the one exception of the Ono my mother had to send back for a replacement.

Luvmarypoppins, on another thread, someone said that they changed the Kilueau Torte completely.

I am happy that they are doing something about the menu. We ate there because we had heard so many good reviews and really weren't wowed by the quality of the food. It was okay but not incredible.

OMG's! Can't believe this. My husband's two favorite dishes the Mahi Mahi and the Kona chowder!!!!!!!!Gone!

Guess I will be making a ressie somewhere else this December.

:sad2:

I don't know why people would change their ressies. I mean, if you liked the place before, then you'll probably still like it with different dishes. Maybe you'll even like the new offerings better.

I can't speak for others, but for myself..I have tried a few of the other dishes and I wasn't that "wowed" by them. As for the other offerings that I have not tried, well they just do not interest me. Unfortunately neither do the descriptions of the new dishes.

The mahi mahi though was delicious, and that is the entree that I enjoyed. That is why we will be changing our ressies. I am sure others may be happy with the new offerings, but...to each their own.

I loved the turkey medallions. Especially the succotash that came with them. But it's supposed to be their "diet" option, so it wasn't very popular.

I changed our reservation for a very simple reason : there's nothing there for me to eat anymore. I don't eat red meat, and I'm allergic to shellfish. Don't like tuna. That leaves one thing, the pan-asian noodles and I'm certainely not going to go to a restaurant to eat noodles and chicken when there are so many more interesting places in WDW. We're giving San Angel a try instead. Still going to Kona for lunch though.

DH had the mahi in May 2006 and really didn't care for it, I tasted it as well and found it to be so-so. We had the same dish on Maui and this really didn't compare...so we will not miss it. The scallop and shrimp meal was delicious, glad to see it is still there. We love seafood so may go for the tuna and ono this time. I did want to try the chowder, sorry to see that is gone! We are traveling with MIL and SIL this time and they are not seafood lovers, so I was happy to see the meat entrees (I don't even know if any of these are new as we probably never even glanced at them ourselves).

What in the world is pork belly?! :confused3

It is the part of the pig that bacon comes from, but prepared unserved/unsalted. Not exactly health food, lots of fat marbling in the meat, but very yummy and tender when prepared well.

Can the OP send this new menu to allears.net so their menu can be updated? :confused3

Sure, how do I do that? I would be glad to...I wished I had gone around and taken pictures of all the menus!
