Kona Cafe????? Your thoughts?

Was there Saturday night and the server said they are changing the menu as of Sunday.

She said potstickers were still on the menu, but would be served with a seaweed salad garnish rather than cucumbers. The caesar salad was being removed. The mahi mahi was being removed or changed somehow. The turkey was being removed and replaced with a pork chop. The pan-asian noodles were going to be either removed or changed.

Before you decide you may want to see if anyone posts who has eaten there after Sunday.

The bar menu at Tambu has been completely redone. You can't get potstickers or a cheese plate there anymore. You can now get the crab cakes, and there is some sort of chicken dish with lettuce, and there are wings. Several of the old specialty drinks are no longer listed (lapu lapu, backscratcher, and the Malibu Macaw are still there, plus I think the Island Sunset).

Yes, the menu has changed. No more Mahi Mahi, folks. A fellow Diser posted a photo of the new menu (about a week ago?) and the menu on allears.net has since been updated.

i haven't read all the responses so i'm probably repeating some stuff. just wanted to share with you what a great experience DH and i had at kona back in may. i had the filet and it was the most tender steak i've ever eaten! it blew my le cellier filet away!!! the crab cakes were soooooo good too! i also got my first lapu lapu there and.....heaven in a pineapple. :cloud9: i went to 'ohana last september and was really disappointed with the food and the chaotic environment. i couldn't even think straight in that place! if you have kids, 'ohana is fun. but the food wasn't good at all IMO. the meat was reallllllly dry. just my two cents.....i don't think you'll be disappointed!

 just had a kona moment....tonga toast and pressed kona coffee went thur my mind....i had to revitalize this thread......dont let me be the thread killer....i need pictures of kona cafe food.....:)

:rotfl: More Kona photos for mrincredible, please! And hurry! :lmao:

Ok, now that I have Kona on my mind (hmmm, that could be a song! :rotfl: ) I have a question about the Tonga Toast. I was just looking at the recipe. It says "Cut a 1 inch pocket in one side of each bread slice." For those of you who have actually eaten the Tonga Toast, do I make the cut "clear through" the bread (like for a one-eyed-jack?) :confused3 TIA!

Kona is AWESOME! The ate there last month for breakfast and dinner...it was fantastic. We tried to squeeze in a lunch but we could not tear ourselves away from the pool. The lunch menu looks so good.

I dont know how to make it. Only now how to eat it! :lmao:

Kona is one of our favorite restaurants at DW and we usually eat dinner there twice per trip. I've always liked anything I've ordered and the desserts are wonderful. My favorites are Coconut Almond Chicken and the Pot Stickers!!!

We ate lunch there recently. We thought it was okay, nothing special. 100% better than 'Ohana, however.

I can't believe when I read how many people, including myself just love the Mahi Mahi that they would remove it from the menu. :confused3 We are booked here for late November and have been so looking forward to the Mahi Mahi, but think I will look for somewhere else.
It is a shame that they took the Mahi Mahi off of the menu. They now have Ono. I tried it this past October. Let me just say YUCK :scared1: By the time I got to the middle of it, I realized that is may not have been cooked properly. I loved Kona the first time we ate there. Sorry they changed the menu.

We ate at the Kona for the first time in September and LOVED it! It was one of the best meals of our week! Great food, great atmosphere, great service! I would definitely go back!

It's not true what everyone is saying. Kona Cafe is terrible, please everybody don't start going there, nothing to see here people, move along...

The Plaza is terrible, too, by the way, and so is the Yacht Club Galley and the breakfast buffet at the Beach Club.

Oh, and don't go to the Garden Grill, either.

Please keep going to Chef Mickey's and Ohana and Le Cellier and Cinderella's Royal Table instead!

I think it's one of the consistently best restaurants on property. I have done lots of research on these boards and have rarely (if ever) seen a negative review of Kona. Have had several meals there, and tried different things -- everything was wonderful!

(FYI - Also, give Tambu Lounge (at the Poly) a try! They have the most amazing lettuce wraps - they ended up being my favorite meal of our trip two months ago, and we ate at some really good restaurants like Cali Grill, Le Cellier, etc.!)

THANKS ZOZO. I TOO HAVE NEVER HAD A BAD MEAL AT KONA OR ANYWHERE ON POLY SITE. SITTIN HERE NOW THINKING ABOUT TONGA TOAST AND PRESSED KONA COFFEE........:surfweb:

First, let me say we have only eaten at Kona once-for breakfast.

I absolutely hated the Tonga Toast. DH and I both ordered it and we threw out both orders. I thought the hot bananas were nasty. Really nasty.
It probably would have been ok if not for the bananas, though.

I will go back, however, just not for breakfast. The crab cakes look delicious.
