We are looking at purchasing a Kodak Playsport. I just want to make sure that it will do what I want it to before getting it. I have read many reviews on-line but they haven't answered a couple of my questions. If you have one, could you please take a minute to let me know how you like it. Also,

1) We chose it because it will take an SD card and not just rely on internal memory. How much time will an 8 GB card hold? I thought about getting a 32 but it costs a good bit. We already have some SD cards for our camera that we could use.

2) I don't want to use it to share videos on-line, just for our own memories. Can you just download the videos to your computer and save it to a DVD? If so, is it hard to do? I am not really computer savvy.

3) It comes with a battery but I read somewhere--in someone's review-- that you can also use AA batteries. Is this true? I didn't find that in any description that I read about the camera.

4) How long, do you find, that the battery lasts?

5) If I didn't want to take my computer to download the videos on vacation, what is that thing that I have read about on here that you can take with you to dump pictures and videos onto. How much does this device cost?

Thanks so much!!

I can answer some as I have used one, but don't own one.... It costs about $150. I didn't shoot a ton of video, but two 8GB cards was fine for us in Mexico over a week. We charged it 2 or 3x.

Do NOT expect great video at night, but do expect awesome video while underwater if used on a bright day.

Yes, you can just DL them to your comp and make a DVD.

That's all I know, but I hope it helps.

Thanks Big Cuddly Bear. That definitely helps. So if I try to record the night time parade, will the lights show up at all or is that the kind of thing you were talking about when you said that it doesn't work well at night?

Anyone else have any experience with the playsport??

Thanks!

We have a Playsport that we use mostly at WDW, although we bought it for our cruise. We bought it at Best Buy for around $100 when they were on sale. It's come in very handy!

It's very durable and even survived when my DH accidently opened one of the sealed compartments underwater when we were at Castaway Cay. He uses it mostly for recording rides and parades. All of our night videos have come out really nice, especially the video he has of MSEP.

1. We have a 16GB card, and my DH wants to get another one. (My DH takes a lot of videos!) I'm not sure that one or two 8GB cards would be enough for us.

2. My DH downloads our videos onto our MacBook, and then saves them onto an external hard drive along with all my pictures. They can also be burned to a CD.

3. I don't recall having any other batteries besides the one that came with it.

4. Like I said, my DH takes a lot of video! It will last pretty much all day at the parks, and he charges it overnight.

5. Not sure about this one...

Hope that helps! :)

Look online for some deals. I bought a 32GB card and I am happy that I did. I do not have to worry about running out of space and having to delete stuff.

Yes you can download the vidoes/pictures to your computer without having to share it. It comes with a USB cord that you plug into any PC. You can then select which photos/videos you wish to download and/or delete.

3) It comes with a battery but I read somewhere--in someone's review-- that you can also use AA batteries. Is this true? I didn't find that in any description that I read about the camera.

I have not seen anywhere on mine that you can put regular batteries. Although mine is about 2 years old so I don't know if they have a newer model out.

4) How long, do you find, that the battery lasts?
It all depends. For instance I find that if I constantly turn on and off the playsport, it tends to eat my battery up. But I can say that I once brought it to a theme park and took about 100 pictures, and recorded about 8-15 ride videos before the battery was showing in the red.

You can save it to anything once it's on your PC. YOu can save it to a CD, DVD, BLU-RAY, Thumbdisk, External Harddrive. You can get external hard drives anywhere from $50 on up depending on Hard drive size and the manufacturer.

My thoughts:

I love the Playsport for shooting while on a ride or under water. It is very small so it's so easy to put in your pocket or to have it on your belt with a carry on pouch.

Here is a tip: When shooting an HD video, and there is alot of motion I find it better to have the recording mode set on 720P @ 60FPS showed the best results as opposed to 1080P. I don't know why but when I shoot motion on the 1080p setting, things seem to be a little "choppy". As the above poster mentioned, it isn't good for night time vidoes and it is definetly not for shooting night time PHOTOS as there is no flash!
