Kingdom Tower DVC at the Contemporary (Orlando Sentinel 2/26/08)

Another popular DVC board has posted some of the official documents that DVC has filed. The oficial name is "Kingdom Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, A Leasehold Condominium", or " Kingdom Tower Resort" for short.

Not a dvc member yet, but wife has been on the fence for about two years. She has wished the contempary had a DVC. That is where she would like to own. So with the news about kingdom towers she is ready. Question is is there a chance that it could sell out before it would be offered to the public sence i am not DVC member yet?

It's not likely. If you're interested, there should be plenty of opportunity to purchase a DVC membership at KTR.

You are right, that there could have been a million names for this building. But, also, just because your first thought was something different, doesn't make it offensive or a bad name. I am sure that EPCOT received vasts amounts of criticism....as well as more than a few rides in Disney's past and present.

But I think it is a silly debate or something that people should be taking offense to. This isn't about this building, it is about our Society in general. A few people feel offended by something and it will probably end up with a name change, the Magic Tower will also be changed (if that was the intended name of the next building)....but truth be told, it is all just very silly. I could understand people being upset if it was named something that could trully be offensive to any class of people, but that isn't the case. JMHO and I wish this thread would go back to being about the new DVC offering and not a debate about the name of the stupid building. My peace offering.....

Yes, you are correct. Well there's the attack on the us dollar/coins, our constitution, and the pledge of allegance in school. What made you think "Kingdom Towers" would escape the wrath!! Our battle to fight...Peace!

All the DVC resorts are Leasehold Condominiums. I know the four resorts I own at are referred to as such in each POS.

There we go....KTR, no one ever udder the words Kingdom Tower again and we will be alright! After all, we don't even say Contemporary Resort anymore, right....much less Saratoga Springs Resort or any other resort...its all initials.

For the record, I also grew up in the bible belt (where there was a lack of Jehova's Witnesses, at least public ones) and therefore maybe it isn't so much a southern thing where it reminds people of Kingdom Hall or whatever, but just areas that are more predominant in JW's. Either way, I will be happy to arrive in heaven and find Main Street USA

funny, when I hear "Kingdom", I think more of Saudi Arabia, Arab, Muslim, etc....

You know ... I was not offended in this thread until now. As someone who does not practice the prominent religion here in the US I am sick and tired of being told by people to just sit down and shut up when I bring up ways that religion permeates the society.

Ouch...who would have thought the fight from if CRV tower was going to be DVC would become a "Disney is trying to make us all religous" fight because they named the building something that some people might consider to be religous....lets see, closest building to Magic Kingdom=Kingdom Tower, or Jehovah Witnesses have Kingdom Hall's=Kingdom Tower......guess all of us that don't really care are just being duped by the big Mouse

....the simple solution to those that have been offended is boycott and don't buy there.....doubt that will happen

Actually, that is exactly what will happen in my case. I have no intention of buying there because I already have too many points to use each year owning at the 3 homes that we have.

My point was that this is a discussion board and YOU may not be interested (or "care", in other words) in the fact that many of us thought of Kingdom Hall first upon hearing the new name, but others may be. What's so confusing about giving our first impressions of the name?

Oh heck, I'd buy there no matter what the name! I'm just surprised that Disney didn't do any focus groups on the name. There are enough of us who think the name is stupid I'm sure it would have come up on a focus group.

OK, I'm confused. Several people made a connection between the name and religion. Did they say that because of this they found it offensive?? I thought most people said they made the connection that was all.

Exactly. Unless maybe the people doing the naming ARE JH's and really WERE thinking of Kingdom Hall!

It's not that the name is offensive (although I think it is pretty silly for EVERY worship space for JH's to have the same name everywhere- they are ALL just called "Kingdom Hall.") It's just that it isn't the best Disney could come up with, I'm sure. How could they miss the first reactions of SO many people when coming up with the name?
