Kingdom Tower DVC at the Contemporary (Orlando Sentinel 2/26/08)

I have an idea! Let's make it a villain themed DVC resort and name it "De Vil Towers" .

Actually, that is exactly what will happen in my case. I have no intention of buying there because I already have too many points to use each year owning at the 3 homes that we have.

My point was that this is a discussion board and YOU may not be interested (or "care", in other words) in the fact that many of us thought of Kingdom Hall first upon hearing the new name, but others may be. What's so confusing about giving our first impressions of the name?

It wasn't geared at what people first thought of, it was geared at all the people that felt that Disney made a HUGE mistake and MUST change that name right away, because they thought of something else. We all think of different things, but to feel that this is over the line, just is pretty funny to me.

Honestly, I was surprised by the name at first, I can't remember if I thought it was religous or not (in actuallity, after this thread my head is spinning and I am not sure what I was thinking, just surprised it wasn't CRV I guess).

As for the PP that feels that they should sit down and shut up because they aren't Christians, the funny thing is most Christians feel like they are being told to sit down and shut up too. In the past 15 years there have been far more attacks on religions than non-religions (or the rights there of) with prayers in school, 10 commandment displays, evolution vs creation, etc etc. Truth is, in public life Christians have been attacked much more than atheists/agnostics have and it has been upheld by the Government.

We all have different views, but as PrincessDadx2 already put it so eloquently "ITS A FREAKING THEME PARK PEOPLE"

Oh heck, I'd buy there no matter what the name! I'm just surprised that Disney didn't do any focus groups on the name. There are enough of us who think the name is stupid I'm sure it would have come up on a focus group.

Actually, we don't really know if they did. Maybe most people got the connection to Magic KINGDOM and liked the idea.

I totally disagree that Christians are persecuted by others standing up for their rights, but this is not the place to discuss religious dogma so I will leave it at that.

OK, I'm confused. Several people made a connection between the name and religion. Did they say that because of this they found it offensive?? I thought most people said they made the connection that was all.

I think that my biggest complaint is that the name does not fit in with the Contemporary Resort theme. I don't want them to name the DVC cousin something different than the main resort. It would be like calling AKV "Kidani Resort". If they change the name of the Contemporary to something that fits better with "Kingdom Tower" I would have less of a problem with it (although I would be very sad about the CR name change).

I was thinking the same thing earlier.

But back on topic (maybe we can keep it going) is that it is pretty amazing that DVC has obtained a "prime location" here. The BWV and BCV are great locations, but were not the best known resorts either. With the addition of KTR I think it is time to drop "The best kept secret" moniker!

I have been waiting for this location for years. The Contemporary is my favorite resort and Animal Kingdom is my DH's favorite. When the North Wing was torn don, CSV was just rumored and AKV came available we sold our OKW contract and bought points at AKV. We put the rest aside for CRV.

haven't sold my OKW yet - and might not - my brother favorite is OKW. he just loves those 2 bedroom.

If sold it would only have 50 points at OKW - not enough for his 2-bedroom - well if banked and borrowed.

Growing up we could never do a Deluxe resort and I would not pay for it (cause I am cheap), but now that we own DVC I am excited to be able to stay at that "Holy Grail" (non-religous reference ) resort.....the very first one at WDW!

One of the first two resorts, correct? The Poly was there when it opened also. I stayed at Poly twice as a kid, the first time was over the first July 4th the MK was open.

I don't have any desire to own at KTR but I would stay there. Anyone care to speculate what the dues will be?

Remember, Disney sometimes changes the names of things. This could happen.

Remember:

Dixie Landing = Riverside
Count down to extinction = Dinosaur
Pop Culture = Pop Century
Yacht Club Galley = Captian's Grill
And probably more that others will remember.

So, since it hasn't even been officially announced, the name could certainly change before it does!

BTW--they could call the new addition the "Golden Horseshoe" since it's shaped like a horseshoe and will cost alot of gold to own there.....but I think they used that name before....teehee
