Do you buy these? Do you like them? For what age kids?

DD, 8, came home from a friends all excited about her Kidzbop cd. We got it for her from the library. First some of the song lyrics are a bit adult for an 8 yo imho and secondly, listening to children sing those lyrics is even worse! I'd rather just get the original artist singing for the songs that are appropriate.

My boys were never much into music at this age so I didn't have to listen to lyrics. I'll be very vigilant for dd.

DS liked them starting about kindergarten until about 3rd grade. I didn't worry about the lyrics as they pretty much went over his head. Yeah, they're annoying (and the original are so much better) however, they aren't marketing to me, they're marketing to little kids and little kids really seem to enjoy them.

My 7 and 9 year olds are over kidsbop, since we just listen to top 40 in the van (and yes, the lyrics can be innapropriate, and they have no idea what they mean - I had to really listen to figure it out). My kids love music, and they're constantly singing, My older kids started the top 40's trend, much to the dismay of my classic rock DH! ;)

my son and I make fun of these all the time. We joke that one day we will see "KidzBop 204", since they keep making so many of them.

Yeah, I've never bought those and never will. If my child wanted to hear a song, I'd just buy the original. Thankfully, mine has never had any interest in kidz singing pop music...he'd rather have Rolling Stones or the Beatles.

One of the Kidzbop kids, Harrison, is a friend of ours.

He has a wonderful voice in real life. He sings the national anthem at our swim meets all the time (he is a great swimmer too) and is one of the few kids that can actually sing it on key, high notes and all. I have only bought 1 CD in support of him when he first got the job. I think it is still in the wrapper.

If my kids are going to listen to Bad Romance, they are going to listen to Lady GaGa with the real lyrics, not some kids singing a song where the lyrics have been changed to keep it more child friendly.

So, I am with the others - I would rather have my kids listen to the original.

Although I guess there are plenty of parents out there that like the music and prefer that the lyrics have been tamed down for their kids.

I told my friends that listening to kidsbop is like having to sit through someone elses kids school concert over and over.:rotfl:
