Kids in the Cove Cafe

I never thought of asking one of the wandering waiters outside on deck 9. That's a good idea...

What about putting in an espresso machine in the bar near Goofy's grill? The bartenders in Cove Cafe seem to be able to mix drinks and coffee, so why not the bartender at Goofy's Grill?

What could the cruise director actually do about this? He would be the last person I would think to tell this to...

I can understand a parent bring a child under 3 into the cove but if they are old enough to be in the clubs for the kids they should be there and not taging along with mom or dad into an adult area. That being said don't forget the Cove Cafe wasn't originally designed as an adult area it was the original teen lounge and was only made an adult area after the ESPN clubs were turned into The stack and Aloft respectfully.

Cruise director is responsinle for stuff like that, he obviously couldnt have done anything at the time( as you were hardly going to go find them) but he/she should be made aware of guests feelings, if it bothers you that much.

The Cove Cafe should be adults only, period.

BUT, I should be able to get a decent coffee somewhere when I have one of my children with me. What's the big deal Disney?? I can get an alcoholic beverage by the pool at 9:30am with my kids but not a latte. Just wrong--bad planning. How hard can it be to put another latte machine somewhere on deck 9???? Why can't the bar by the pool serve decent coffee?? I'm willing to pay like I am for an alcoholic drink.

I wonder if Disney could fill a ship for one cruise with adults only? I'd be on that one! ;)

After reading this interesting thread, I am just glad that I don't drink coffee!

That being said, I do agree that if an area is designated Adults Only, that should be enforced. I am fed up to the back teeth of people who believe the rules are meant for other people.

I hope you aren't serious. We cruise without children, but I can't even begin to imagine going one day without hearing kids at play(and yes, that includes the screams). We enjoy the adult areas of the ship and think they should stay just that, for adults only. We went to Serenity Bay once and were bored to death after about one hour, it was way too quiet and sedate. It just wasn't for us, but there are plenty of people who only go to Serenity Bay and I think Disney should keep it the way it is, for adults only. My point is, that the ship is big enough and the island is big enough to accommodate everyones' preferences. A walkup window seems to me to be a good alternative for people who have their children with them and want a specialty coffee.

I know Disney won't offer it, but yes - I prefer cruises with few kids. After seeing wall-to-wall people at the family beach at CC, I was very glad DCL provided Serenity Bay.

That is exactly my point, DCL provides for everyone. We are just one of the lucky ones and can pick and choose when we want adult only and when we want to be on the family beach. I had never thought about the people who can't even get a cup of coffee, because they have small children with them. I think DCL needs to be made aware when the rules are not respected, so that they can continue to provide cruises that can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter the age.

Are there no coffee pots in the buffet or the beverage station on deck 9? I don't drink coffee, so my only wandering into the Cove Cafe was to see the new addition on the Wonder last December.

The coffee that is on Deck 9 is mediocre at best. It's Nescafe, which stinks. If you actually like coffee, you need to go to the Cove for it, particularly if you like coffee drinks, i.e. lattes, etc.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. You can get nescafe at the beverage station on deck 9, but you can only get specialty coffees at the Cove Cafe.

Is the coffee in the Cove Cafe included in the cruise price? I won't say "free" - because nothing, including soda, is free!

No, it is not included in the cruise price. There is a charge for the coffee.

Haven't tried it, but CMs are not always readily available, and if I'm getting a coffee to go, I shouldn't be penalized because I'm choosing to spend time with my kid.

How are you being "penalized"? :confused3 I never understand this "logic"....you have a series of choices, 1) skip the coffee entirely for the trip, 2) get coffee from any location that will allow you to obtain it with your child, 3) wait until you have "alone" time to go to Cove, 4) order coffee from a CM so that you can have it *right now* .
It is not a penalty to say that a person doesn't always get what they want when they want it! In this instance, it needs to be decided what is the priority, upscale coffee or kid time...you can have both, but at a small convenience fee to be paid for getting your cake and eating it too....

The day DCL stops enforcing adults only areas is the day we abandon ship.

Kids in the Cove Cafe is right up there with a stream of kids "checking in" with their parents at the Quiet Cove Pool for me.

We are "rule followers" and don't take dd12 in any "adults only" area, BUT I do not understand the complete uproar that a child may appear every now and then in an adult only area. It doesn't sound like it was a problem in any of the 4 pages so far. Is it really such a BIG DEAL??? You are CHOOSING to cruise with Disney and there WILL always be children......................just sayin'

Well done...couldn't have said it better, it was exactly what I had been thinking reading through these pages.

Sorry. The "uproar" for me is that adults only means adults only. Not adults only "sometimes." Or "adults only" only when it's not incovenient for a parent to leave his child elsewhere. Or "adults only" only when all parents/guardians think the rules don't apply to them.

Adults only is what Disney promises in their marketing, and adults only is what I expect.

There are so few adults only places on the ship. The ones that are designated as such should be enforced.

I personally don't think anyone here has an issue with the occasional kid appearing in an adult area, be it the 12 year old that sticks his head in to Cove to tell mom he's done at the pool or the 5 year old that walks with his parents through quiet cove area after coming up the front steps. I've seen both of these myself, and I don't think either is an issue.

I think the problem starts when the kids become more than a "transient" fixture. The stroller that parks in Cove or Outlook. The 8 year old in the Rainforest Room. The two 10 year olds swimming in the quiet cove pool while their sister sits in the hot tub there. A family with 3 kids at pub night. Once people stop following the rules, people who "do" follow rules quickly become annoyed that they aren't able to get the same privileges so they ignore the rules too. It doesn't take long to go down the slippery slope. And when you see certain cruises where the rules aren't enforced (and I still can't figure out the trend because it fluctuates wildly) it definitely scares those people who enjoy "adult only" parts of the ship. Heck, it would scare me.
