Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 5

I agree that the doll clothes are super easy. There are some reasons for that:

1) No serging/finishing of seams. I figure since they are not going to get washed a whole lot, pinking shears for the seams are fine.
2) There are not a lot of pieces. They are made for little hands to get on and off so they are simple.
3) Velcro! The first thing I made called for snaps, which were a pain to sew on. My mother suggested velcro and I found some that irons on and it is so much easier. The peasant blouse I made is open in the back, iron the raw edge and then iron on velcro and you're done!

Go ahead and try! We are all here to help!

Words of comfort to get me going! I'll start with Pj's..WHO can screw those up???? (dare I ask)

Hello all thanks so much for the nice comments on all my outfits. I get nervous when It comes time for me to share. I just wanted to share the pattern I used to make my gingerbread people.

This is the web site
http://www.first-school.ws/theme/cp_christmas/patterns.htm

and this is just the one I used
http://www.first-school.ws/t/pattern/gingerbreadb.html

I used some left over polar Fleece to make the bodys and then stuffed them I used doll eyes trust me when I say a child could not pull those out I messed up and tried no way. The jean dresses are the cuffs I cut off of the girls jeans or overalls they were perfact size. I blanket stiched the two together they went together pretty quickly I made all four bodys onced they were cut out in about an hour. I had so much fun making them. My sis in law says i am so crafty because she sees left over fabric and it just goes in a box I see leftover fabric and I make gingerbread people. I guess it's just the way I think. Enjoy.

Loving all the doll clothes and the tights instructions! I want to see more pictures of all the doll clothes. You all have nearly motivated me to get going! I've been too sick to sew the last 2 days, but I managed to drag myself to the store for some drugs and now I can function a little. It is hard when you are motivated and have a little time but feel too sick to even walk down the stairs! Thanks to lots of ibuprofin and sudafed I'm going to stop typing and get sewing! :woohoo: Hope i have something to post soon--but wait, my model (DD2) scooped a whole jar of Vaseline into her hair yesterday :scared1: (silly me, I thought she was napping). I did manage to get photos:

DS did that when he was her age and I was able to get the vaseline out in a couple of days. I have washed her hair 6 or 7 times and tried all sorts of stuff--dish soap, my good shampoo that really cleans well, corn starch, baking soda and her hair still looks and feels horrible! She has curly hair and it's not even curly now. I tried smoothing it back into a pony tail today but the elastics keep sliding out :sad2: It looks wet and greasy and yuck and I can barely get a comb through it. Any advice out there? Especially you hair experts? (That means you Wendy).

OMG!! I have no advice, but I hope you are having fun trying to get that out! Let us know what you find that works!

I read somewhere to dry dish detergent and corn starch...not at the same time....:lmao:

My first instinct would be Dawn dishwashing detergent - because it cuts grease. You certainly would need to make sure it doesn't get in her eyes, and it probably isn't good for her hair, but it may get the vaseline out. I don't know.

I would try baby powder. Good luck. :)

Try baking soda. Mix it with a little water to make a paste and wash her hair with that. Then use shampoo. That should work hopefully! My mom is a hairdresser and has used this remedy before.;)

I agree with this,
But, honestly, I have been able to just give my kids really, really good sudsy washings and in about 2 days of 4 or 5 washing each day usually it comes out.
Good Luck!

Okay, I'm pretty new to this so can someone tell me where oh where can I find Minnie dot fabric??? :confused3 I think I may have heard somewhere it's no longer made or something  Anyone?

Thanks!

Can I just say how jealous I am that you guys have an American Girl store so close! The closest one to me is Chicago and that's at least 5 hours away! I hope they do more of the bistro stores. Are they the same size as the Chicago/New York/L.A. stores?

I know, I'm jealous too! My Mom and I have talked about taking the girls to the one in Chicago, but it's still at least 3 hours from us.

Oh no! I have no advice, but it is kind of funny, don't you think? ;)

The Minnie Dot was considered a costume fabric at Walmart. It clearanced out at .50 a yard after Halloween. Hancock sometimes gets it in during the year though. How much do you need? I know that some people on here bought extra. Heather did, but I'm not sure how much she has left.

Good morning...is anyone up yet?
I need some help. I'm trying to find a JoAnn coupon that's good for today. I found tons of expired ones, but none that are still valid. Thanks for any help...and I will keep looking...

OOH! Yes, you do! And when you do, please remember your Dis friends! I would LOVE to purchase some of that fabric.

I definitely will remember all of you if I can find someone who is willing to go search through the fabric store in Malaysia for me.....will let you know if I find something.

Thanks everyone for all your help and advice! I have tried everything. I'm thinking only time will fix this one! And yes, it is kind of funny, it will be more so when it is over. When DS did this about 6 years ago I took photos and scrapbooked it. Now I get a good laugh over those scrapbook pages. If I lived only 3 hours from Chicago I'd be there in a heartbeat! When DD turned 9 I took her to Chicago for a weekend just to go to the American Girl store. We had lunch in the cafe and went to the play they put on there and had her photo taken in the photo studio. It was the best time. A girls weekend neither one of us will forget! I wanna go again!

I haven't been on here in ages. (I just started this thread and then checked out when it became too overwhelming - LOL!):rotfl:

Anyway, I am trying to find the great seamstress on this thread who used to provide a lot of sewing advise to everyone. I believe her name was Lisa and she at one point posted a custom Jo-Jo twirl skirt and coordinating tank top.

If anyone can provide me her user name I would be most appreciative.

TIA
