The outfit is adorable! BTW, what does your hubby say about you taking pics of your son when he is trying this stuff on? A few weeks ago, I made one my DS friends a Minnie dot twirl skirt w/a long sleeve t-shirt that had her name appliqued on it. The outfit was a surprise late b'day present and I didn't know how big to make the waist. I asked my son to try it on and my hubby said "if he doesn't want to do it -- he doesn't have to".

This is the first outfit I've made in this size, but DH would probably scoff , shake his head and say "that poor boy". Now if I were to try to take him out in anything remotely girly...well that's a different story! He took an outfit back that his mother bought DS as a newborn because he said it looked like it was for a girl. It was light blue with a hood. He said boys don't wear that color, and the hood was girly!!

So I have never appliqued before and thought it would be less pressure to do it on a tote bag so I decided to make a couple for some boys (friends of ours)for christmas. I started with a couple then I would look at it and decide it needed more so I kept adding and adding. Then I found a remnant of spiderman and decided they should be lined too. So I thought I would have them finished last night but I accidently sewed the wrong-side closed on one and now I have to ripe it out :headache: And I couldn't find the ripper at 2am.

So I moved on to another remnant find- about a yard piece is now this:

It was $2- I couldn't pass it up!!! Not that I really had time or energy to make it, But it had to be made. I love that fabric- SO Cute!!!
So that is what I have been doing lately!! I have been checking in- WOW really cute everyone!!! And Welcome to our new friends and lurkers that have come out of hiding.
Went to a christmas pageant last night-Then realized christmas is less than 2 weeks away!!!!!! Yikes better get busy- So then I was up until 3:30AM. Got more to do check in with you later- Oh and Heather- Avatar!!!!!!

Everything is really cute! Love the dress and what a cute baby!!!!!

Poor thing! You'd be surprised at how many calls we (The Salvation Army) get for different things that have accidentally been dropped in a kettle. I hope she doesn't miss the quarters too much. If so, PM me, maybe I can help you out. AND I hope she didn't notice your project!

Oh, to get her to go back to bed I told her if she cleaned her room I would give her two quarters so she is happy with that arrangement (she is very good about keeping her room tidy). I wish it would work for Jacob!

I bought a Just Like You doll with blond hair and blue eyes. The outfit had embroidered jeans and a hooded sweatshirt along with a pair of sneakers.
She is so pretty I wanted to play with her. Instead I hid her in a suitcase! I will probably get her out to show DH later today.

Warning: if you do take her out and play with her, make sure your daughter is sleeping!

Thanks everyone! I am happy with how the Abby Cadabby set turned out. (I still see the mistakes though) I used multicolored thread for her hair. My machine was not cooperating when I was doing her hair and was pulling alot of the pink bobbin thread up. :confused3

Steph - I hope Meagan gets her quarters back! When I got DD her AG doll(s) I would take them out of the box and try on their new outfits and fuss with their hair. I love her dolls almost as much as she does.

She told me she is going to clean her room as soon as she gets home so she can get her quarters. She is quite determined! I really like how that thread looks, too bad it was such a pain.

This pic is GREAT! The kids are just too cute!

Thanks, I have to go pick up the Christmas cards later today, I hope they came out ok!

Are you saving for future therapy sessions too? Maybe we can get a group rate! The outfit looks really great on though, so it was worth it!

Those came out so cute! And your gingerbread people are just darling!

Here is what I got busted doing last night. See the pants can be worn with the jumper or with the peasant blouse. See T, I am not crazy or anything, they all match!

Love the bag and love the dress even more! That fabric is too cute and I can completely understand how you couldn't pass it up!

This is the first outfit I've made in this size, but DH would probably scoff , shake his head and say "that poor boy". Now if I were to try to take him out in anything remotely girly...well that's a different story! He said boys don't wear that color, and the hood was girly!!

My DH did not approve of the outfit that I picked to bring Jacob home from the hospital. He said the little ducks on it looked happy, if you know what I mean. Men are so silly!

Thank you! I finished the doll dress last night and was trying it on when Megan came out of bed. She was crying because, get this, she missed the quarters she put in the salvation army bucket earlier and could I please call the lady and ask for them back! :rotfl2: I think she was too upset to notice what I was doing (I hope, anyway!). I'll post pictures when she is safely at school.

Oh and Teresa, the first three we took were without teeth. I kept yelling "teeth please!" When she finally realized I wasn't going to stop until I saw teeth she smiled nicely.

Have I ever told you how cute I think your kids are??? Oh, I have? Well, I'm going to tell you again! That child is TOO adorable! Crying about quarters! Sounds like something Tessa might do actually!

I am going to believe that she is smiling with teeth just because your internet friends wanted her too! ;) ;)

Ladies knee highs!!!!!

Walmart sells 1 pair of ladies knee highs (in the little egg) for .39. 1 egg equals two pair of tights. Walmart usually has some really fun colors.

Remove 1 knee high and turn it inside out. Smooth out the wrinkles. The top (open part) becomes the waist. Make a small mark in the middle of the stocking about 5 inches from the top of the waist. (This will be the "crotch")

th_tights1.jpg

Fold the stocking in half long ways. Make a mark 1/2 inch from the middle on either side of the middle. These are the feet.

th_tights2.jpg

Starting at the toe stitch up the leg from one mark to the top mark. Stitch from the top mark down the other leg. Cut up the middle between the two stitch lines. (Be careful not to cut the stitches or cut too close to the stitches) You can serge the inside seam but it is not necessary. Trim as needed and turn rightside out. (You can also "shorten" the legs of the tights by sewing across the toes)

Once I had made a few pair of these, I moved on to using "trouser socks". They are a little more costly, but they tend to be "thicker" and a little more durable. They also have some neat patterns that look really cute as tights. Just remember to only use socks with no heel.

Cindee

Cindee!!! This is FANTASTIC!!!! Thank you so much for writing this up for us! I can't wait to try this!

I have added it to the bookmarks too!

Just for you guys! I needed to try the jeans on DS to see if they will fit his cousin (they are just about the same size) Sooo, I snapped a picture - just for you. Poor kid!

He's going to hate these pictures some day!!

Thank you so much to Teresa Joy And Heather Sue for getting me the minnie dot fabric I could not have made these without you. The second set of bows on the straps are their hair bows I didn't want to lose them so I put them on there so when I wrap these they wont get lost. :santa: :santa: I hope you all like them I was inspired by all of you thanks for letting me share.

Aww, it was nothing! Walmart is only a few minutes away from my house.  (still get WAY too excited about that!)

These outfits are simply adorable!!!! I love them! I can not wait to see pictures of your girls in them!

And, those gingerbread men are too stinkin cute!!! I want to try some of those now!

The bags are great! You did a really nice job!

And, YEAH!!! :cheer2: on the avatar!!!!

When Corey was born, I got SOOOO many GIRL outfits for him! I was thrown a baby shower AFTER he was born, and I had to return three different outfits (from different people even) because they were girls! I'm talking pink with bows and flowers!!! :confused3 I still don't get it.

When he was 1 1/2, my mother in law gave him a light blue Snoopy sweatshirt with little pink bows all over it. HUH???

Those look so cute! I love the way they match Megan's outfit! You need to get a picture of the two of them together to show us, after you give them to her!

Were you at the North Point Mall American Girl? If so, I was at North Point today, I could have possibly seen you there!

Yep That's where I went. My sister works up there (in Alpharetta) So she went with me on her lunch break. I was only there for an hour then I had to take her back to work. If you saw me you may have noticed my son. He had a plastic sword and a little cap gun.

After that we went to the JoAnn's Store up there.

I just about finished the set! I still have to do her eyelashes, by hand. Wouldn't you know it I can't find a needle. I plan on giving this to my almost 2 yo. neice for Christmas. Is it ok or should I skip it and try Elmo? All I see are my mistakes and what I should have done.

Here is the image I used.

He's going to hate these pictures some day!!

AWWW...He looks so happy, though. :)

I have a picture of DS5 when he was about 2.5 wearing a dorothy (from Wizard of oz) dress with a TUTU underneath and a mink cloche hat. He put the outfit together himself at daycare, and absolutely refused to take it off to go home. He's going to regret that tantrum when he's 17....

I got DD the little Disney "soft little princess" Ariel doll (Is that what they're even called?) for Christmas.

She has been bugging me for clothes for her baby doll, and I KNOW she will want clothes for this Ariel doll....BUT...

I'm scared of making doll clothes. Clothes for grown ups? No problem! Kids? Even better.. But give me a doll, and I get scared!

Are doll clothes hard? I worry about the tiny sizes. Is it the same amount of work as "people clothes"? More?

When I was younger, I remember my mother getting all kinds of Barbie Doll clothing patterns, starting one, getting so frustrated the dress never got made, and re-selling the lot of them at a garage sale. My motehr's an awesome sewer, so I am nervous.

Thanks in Advance.

I have been sewing doll clothes for YEARS! It is not as scary as it sounds. Even I won't touch Barbie clothes. Hey for a buck I can buy Barbie a dress, not worth the stress to sew THAT tiny!

There are some very simple (easy) patterns. They are a good place to start. I have a pants pattern that is 3 seams, a waist and hem. It can be done in less than an hour (and they are easy for little fingers to put on the doll). And doll clothes use WAY less fabric! LOL

Thanks Cindee!

I have an adult pattern for pants that is also 3 seams a waist and a hem. :) I wonder if they're the same pattern?

I guess I mostly worry about the lack of shoulders on the baby dolls. Do I just need to make the necks tighter and have an opening of some sort?

I have a lot of "companion" patterns for doll clothes from daisy kingdom and the like. You kow, make it for your DD AND her dolly. Are they harder than the "easy" patterns? I'm not going to try to make anything for Christmas, but I know after she get's this doll, adn after accidentally letting her see the doll clothes by stephres and 2cutekidz, she's going to BEG for them.

Thanks for alleviating some of my concerns!

THANK YOU CINDEE for the tights directions! I definitely want to try a pair!

Do not start with the DK patterns. No wonder you are scared LOL!

A suggestion to start with for baby doll clothes: Mccalls M 4338. The pattern comes with two sizes and has basic pieces. Tees, leggings, simple dresses. Good place to start. About the sholders, remember most of the patterns are goin gto close in the back (velcro, snaps) With the exception of the lovely Jord :rolleyes1 I have not had a real problem with the lack of shoulders on dolls. (Jord is basically a head and legs LOL)

So I guess I should hold off on posting some of my doll clothes huh? LOL :lmao:

I was there at lunch, who knows maybe I saw you! I too was also only there for about an hour! I only went to the Disney Store & the food court. It's amazing how fast I can move when I don't have my kids with me!

I think the doll clothes are super easy to do! I made this twirl dress in August. (didn't have the peasant top pattern or I would have made one of those too.) Seeing the clothes that Steph has made this week though makes me want to make more!! They are sooo cute! Tonight I am making the matching nightgowns for DD and her Jess doll. Hopefully I can post a new set in the morning! With DH gone so late setting up the new store, I don't feel bad sewing so much!

Can I just say how jealous I am that you guys have an American Girl store so close! The closest one to me is Chicago and that's at least 5 hours away! I hope they do more of the bistro stores. Are they the same size as the Chicago/New York/L.A. stores?

I agree that the doll clothes are super easy. There are some reasons for that:

1) No serging/finishing of seams. I figure since they are not going to get washed a whole lot, pinking shears for the seams are fine.
2) There are not a lot of pieces. They are made for little hands to get on and off so they are simple.
3) Velcro! The first thing I made called for snaps, which were a pain to sew on. My mother suggested velcro and I found some that irons on and it is so much easier. The peasant blouse I made is open in the back, iron the raw edge and then iron on velcro and you're done!

Go ahead and try! We are all here to help!

I still serge (what I can some seams are too small and I pink those). My DD likes to wash her doll clothes LOL.

I could never get the iron on velcro to stay, so I just zig zag it.

I agree with Stephres go for it!!!!!!
