OK, I ask this of my closest girl friends (and Tom).

My DD goes to a public school with uniforms. I was told when I enrolled her, that in the classroom they can ONLY wear uniform pieces. Outside (recess) they could wear regular coats. "Uniform" jackets are available for order from and outside vendor. I did not order a $60.00 coat from the vendor as I understood she could wear her regular coat for recess. She has been wearing a fleece jacket to school on the few chilly days we have had and nothing was said.

Today the temps were in the 50-60's. I sent DD to school in her short sleeve uniform polo, uniform sweater, and her fleece jacket. She came home and told me she did not wear either the jacket or sweater to recess. I asked her why. She told me the principal had made an announcement yesterday that if the children went outside without the Uniform coats they would be sent to the principals office! Soooo I called the school. I spoke with the secretary, who had to put me on hold, because she was not sure of the policy! It seems the school "rule" is a child can wear a regular jacket to school. But they must take it off in the classroom (which I completely understand), but if the class goes out for recess-the child is not allowed to wear their coat if it is not from the vendor(Even if I ordered a coat now, it would not be here for several weeks). Am I the only one who find this unreasonable? When I worked in the school district we encouraged the children to wear a coat. :confused3
I would think that the school would want the children in school and not home sick from not wearing a coat!
That is NUTS! You should fight that one. I've never heard of such a thing! I would be SOOOO MAD if someone made my kid go outside in the cold without a coat!
You and me both sister. Mac MUST get up by 7:00 am EVERY day no matter what his bed time was and his sister stays up until 2am every night, between the 2 I am EXHAUSTED

We have a place like this it's my MIL's. When my DH (then 23) finally moved out of her house we were having dinner after having moved his stuff to my apartment.. His mother BURST into tears. My FIL said "Ro, it's okay, he'll come home" (mind you we live all of 15 minutes away to this very day-though thankfully not in the same rat trap!!) she said "ask him" he said "ask him what?" she said "KEN!!! ask him" My FIL then, looking exasperated, says B- tell your mother that you will come home to make christmas cookies w/ her." I almost fell out of my chair. So 10 years later we go EVERY year to my MIL's for a marathon cookie baking session. She mixes the dough and we scoop, plop, mold, spritz or whatever else the cookies need done to them. My FIL is chief operator in charge of the Oven temp and time. B is solely responsible for the choosing what color dough goes w/ what spritz cookie shape and the last 2 years we've made mini bread loaves for christmas favors and gifts for neighbors. I sort all of the dry ingredients into ziplock bags according to bread type (Last year we made 5 different ones) this is on top of the 6 dozen chocolate chip cookies (3 w/ nuts 3 without) a million spritz cookies, tassies, and thumbprints
It is an exhausting and trying day but it's our Christmas tradition.

I have a cold and need to go home to rest. I will post this weekend hopefully w/ Little's completed christmas outfit. I don't have enough of the stocking /christmas tree fabric and our Joanns doesn't have it. Luckily I had to go to a further one for the princess leia flannel anyway. OOH speaking of flannel. I found a 20x42 remnant of Ariel flannel for 1.94 SCORE!! Perfect for a pair of Little PJ pants.

...t.

Lyddy and Lily could have their own little late night party! Lyddy is often up that late. Arminda gets up at 7 too, so I understand!

My DS goes to a public school that wears uniforms but there is no policy about coats. They are actually pretty lax about the whole uniform thing as well. They have to wear red, white or navy polo type shirts (short or long sleeve) or red, white or navy long sleeve t-shirts with navy or khaki pants. You can buy them in the school store with the school crest on them for $25.00. There is no way that I am paying $25.00 for a shirt that comes home with paint & stains on it. It just so happens that his two coats are red & blue but it wasn't b/c of the uniform thing -- there is no way that I would buy a $60 coat for PE outside! I would definitely be checking into this.

My daughter does not go to private school, so I really can't comment on your situation, but if she did, I would be soooooo maaaaad if they sent her outside to recess without a coat because it wasn't up to code!

Geez, you would think that with all the money spent on tuition, and uniforms, why would you have to buy thier coat too?

It just doesn't make sense!:confused3

Snow day today, so I had my princess home all day with me.

I did manage to make a top though.

What do you think?

I think any change in policy would require written notice from the principal. That really seems horrible and I would be mad too!

I love it! When I saw the pattern on YCMT I thought all the ruffles were a bit much but I really like them here. It seems like the perfect amount and it really is cute!

Lisa: Congratulations! I was thinking about LASIX a couple of years ago, but my MIL (who is a nurse for an eye doctor) talked me out of it!

Tom! That is ADORABLE!!! Which pattern is that?

Yesterday as I was hunting through my stash of fabrics for Lydia's Build a Bear dress, I was wishing I had your eye for mixing fabrics and patterns! I ended up with some things I think will work, but it isn't as exciting as I would like, just plain solid fabrics.

Ok, I'm rambling, sorry!

Lisa: Congratulations! I was thinking about LASIX a couple of years ago, but my MIL (who is a nurse for an eye doctor) talked me out of it!

Why didn't she recommend it? I've thought about it before. Heather and I both have really strong prescriptions. The thought of not having to rely on glasses or contacts to see past the end of my nose is really nice! I don't have the money to pay for it anyway, but I am interested in an experts opinion. :thumbsup2

I use my own peasant top pattern, and added the ruffles. It is like the Portrait peasant top from YCMT.

Thanks for the comments.

Leigh really likes it! I think I will be remaking this a few more times in other fabrics! It really wasn't that hard to do.

I didn't just "whip" it up. But I did finish it in an afternoon. I think I can redo it faster, now that I have made one.

Teresa, instead of using solids, try finding little prints such as dots, stripes, swirls, etc. The colors don't have to be perfect, and a print adds alot more interest and whimsy to an outfit.

I used to fall into the "it has to match exactly montra", but have since realized that it doesn't have to "match" to really go together!

I have to get brave! I really like the way Lydia's Buzz skirt turned out, but the whole time I was making it, I was thinking, "Is this going to look ok?"

An outfit that shoud have been finished before Thanksgiving just got finished last night. It didn't turn out exactly the way I wanted but oh well. I wanted & tried to applique 2 crossing candy canes on the bodice but after 4 botched up bodices -- I gave up. And yes, I really went through 4 of them! I could just never get them to overcome the really unprofessional look they had going for them. I looked & looked for a ready made candy cane applique but one could not be found. Oh well! Here's the outfit.

Parker hasn't quite managed the JoJo pose yet but she did throw her hand behind her head and bend one leg like she was really modeling.

And, here is the twirl factor.

I couldn't get a good picture of the white fabric but it has little candy canes on it with 3 little green polka dots clumped together all over it.

CastleCreations, congrats on finishing nursing school! :cheer2:

It's been so slow on here this week & haven't even felt well enough to use my extra time to sew. Maybe tomorrow, I have so many projects I need to work on for Christmas. I did get a strip work dress finished over the week-end for a friend's daughter, but I forgot to take pics of it.

She told me all the possible side effects along with all the things that can go wrong. When I asked my eye doctor about it she said, have you noticed that most optometrists wear glasses? There is a reason for that. I guess for an elective surgery you just don't want to mess with your eyes. I have worn glasses since I was in middle school and would love the thought of not wearing them, but I am a big weenie!

I used to have the same problems, thinking everything should match exactly. Now I think they should "go" together, not match, and it does make it easier.

I'm sorry you couldn't get the appliqué: candy canes sound hard! It looks great and Parker looks like she loves it, so that's all that counts! She is so cute!

I am working on the fancy Christmas dress and it is so hard! So far, I have learned how to do a collar and a zipper and I will be happy if I never do either again! I tried it on Megan this morning and it fits perfectly, so it's all worth it. I just have to finish the sleeves and I am done!

Parker looks adorable in it!!! Look at that smile! That's some great twirl factor you've got going there!

Good point about the glasses on optometrists!

I can't wait to see the dress!

Man, where is everybody today????? I hope that since no one is around today it means that you are sewing and that there will be lots of pics to drool over later this evening.

Sorry I was making such a fuss about this, I am just really a) happy to be done before Saturday and, b) proud because it was hard! The outside was velvet and really hard to iron and the inside was slippery and hard to work with. The whole thing was a pain and I was worried that it would look crappy and I would hate it. And I used a size 5 but lengthened the skirt and sleeves to a size 7. Sorry for rambling!

Stephres....that dress is amazing!! I love the fabric and the style! You did an AMAZING job!
