Sorry I was making such a fuss about this, I am just really a) happy to be done before Saturday and, b) proud because it was hard! The outside was velvet and really hard to iron and the inside was slippery and hard to work with. The whole thing was a pain and I was worried that it would look crappy and I would hate it. And I used a size 5 but lengthened the skirt and sleeves to a size 7. Sorry for rambling!
I'd like to believe that when a child turns 18, he will automatically be given some internal gift of "responsibility". For the most part, my DS18, we'll call him George, is pretty problem-free. No drugs or sloughing school. Respectful (when necessary) and hard working.
But.
Last night he decided, in a momentary immature lack of judgment, to light a candle in his bedroom.
On his bookshelf of a headboard.
And left it unattended to use the restroom.
Mind you, I was on the couch glued to a GOOD book (New Moon by Stephenie Meyer, part 2 of the Twilight series :smt023 ) and this was 1:00 in the morning. By the time he was done using the restroom, I asked him, "George, WHAT is that smell???" It smelled like a campfire. Just then the fire alarm sounded throughout the entire house. We both FLEW to his room and saw his bedding ablaze, nearing his curtains. I screamed "FIRE EXTINGUISHER, NOW! to my DH who was two seconds behind us. George and I bravely (or stupidly) flung his bedding onto the floor and frantically stomped and smothered the flames. Cinders took flight and each one had to be patted out. The flames were the size of a big campfire and it was the terrifying to think "What if" after we settled down. We stayed nearby to assure all the little cinders were out. The mattress was pretty much unscathed (treated with retardant?) but his bedding and pillows and headboard were all a total loss.
Let's justs say, George KNEW better. I've told him NEVER to use candles or incense EVER. He felt horrible. Good, I'm glad!
And I made darn sure he understood the gravity of his dumb choice. I think I handled it calmly and chose my words carefully. But he certainly got to see my mama wrath on overdrive.
I almost hesitated to bring up the microwave fire he started last February. But I may have mentioned it to illustrate a pattern (and say "I told you so!")
Wow that is really pretty! I love it.Drumroll please...

I would be upset too. I haven't even heard of a public school that wear's uniforms...maybe I've been living in a cave.
They should have gave you ample notice if they were changing the policies.
How rude...

then I had some fabric left over and decided to make pajama bottoms for ds1. Well I cut it out sewed it, etc. It wasn't until I put them on him that I realized the mickey's were all upside down![]()
. Oh well.

Why didn't she recommend it? I've thought about it before. Heather and I both have really strong prescriptions. The thought of not having to rely on glasses or contacts to see past the end of my nose is really nice! I don't have the money to pay for it anyway, but I am interested in an experts opinion.![]()

They aren't upside down! They are right side up when he looks down! My mom would do things like that on purposeHere's the last of the outfits I had to finish before our trip. I made sweatshirts for each of the kids so they can still match when it gets cooler. It is fleece and super soft. I just love the material. Here is ds5 demonstrating it:

Hi girls! I know it's been awhile since I've checked in, but I have been reading everything you girls have been doing. Steph, I love that Christmas/Holiday dress. Very beautiful! Oh my goodness, Utahmama!!! I can't believe that!!!

You thought you saw us? Where?![]()
I've been engrossed in the BEST book! Sorry if I was MIA. I think my imaginary friends would love this gem:
"Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer.
It hooks you on the first page! It's equal parts romance and suspense with a 17 year old young lady who's in love with a vampire who was born in 1912 and is forever 17. It written uncommonly well. I don't think I put it down for longer than it takes to eat or pee all day yesterday, saving the last chapter for today. I seriously can't wait to sink my teeth into the next in the series! I like it much better than anything written by Anne Rice.
Now I need to catch up with this thread!
Stephres I love your Mickey Christmas tee shirt. I may have to CASE that - if I have enough time.
QUESTION Has anyone worked with the fake fur -- I bought some b/c DD wants me to make her a winter cape for her aurora costume(bought not made). I have the pink velvet for the cape but wanted to put the fur trim on the hood and on the edges. It has a thick back to it -- not sure as to how to do this -- or if my machine will even get through it. It was quite expensive $24.99 a yard -- so I hate to mess it up. TIA!
OK ladies and gent . . .
So sorry to have been MIA lately - between working 2 extra shifts last week for some spending and Christmas moolah, and sewing like a MAD woman, I haven't had time to keep up here. We leave Saturday and I'm nowhere near ready. ACK!
So, here's what I need opinions on. . . is the star and Tink too much? I thought it looked a little plain without, but can't decide if I like it or not. Or any other ideas? Let me know what you all think!!

Here's the snowflake outfit I sewed Tabitha. The skirt is simply a strip work, twirl skirt with fur trim. The shirt is a t-shirt and I added the fur trim to the sleeves. The snowflakes were on a sheer fabric so I just cut them out and appliqued them to the shirt. She wore this to a Christmas dinner show and will wear it on Christmas Eve. She'll probably get a few more wearings out of it at various Christmas related activities this month.

I'm still 10 pages behind, but I'm trying to get caught up so it won't be 30 pages by the time I get home! We will be home on Sunday and I'm already starting to get sad about it!
We went to AK today, and I looked for o2bacelt, but no luck! I rode Dinosaur for the first time and EE twice within 10 minutes!!!
Tomorrow is our ADR at the castle, I was lucky enough to call yesterday and have dd2 addedI've been trying to do that for 2 months! We had a table for 4 and needed one for 5, so I was a happy camper yesterday!
I'll post more pics when we get home!
At the turnstiles, was she wearing a top made with map fabric maybe? I couldn't tell exactly what it was, I was about five or six feet from her.
I am not sure who made this minnie mouse dress, but I really like that the skirt didn't have any gathers, and was wondering if anyone knew which pattern it is? I have gone through patterns on the simplicity and mccalls website but can't seem to find one like that...the ones with collars and puffy sleeves all seem to have gathered skirt.
