4!!! princess: ccxxxxxxxxxxxxxI can't imagine! It is sooo hard with girls! Everything is just so darn cute!!!! And yes, I do love those sales! I got a flyer from Jo anns yesterday saying Butterick patterns are on sale thru Sat for $1.99. Unfortunately we dont have a Hancocks! :sad2: Idont need to go however because I will want more fabric!!!:rotfl: c
Sorry about this but Rylie is helping me type!:confused3

There is a trick for Hancocks. If you sign up for emails they send you a flyer. Print the flyer and take it to Walmart. They match prices. I know sometimes our Hancocks sells out of patterns and I was able to get them at Walmart.

I know how you feel. We are a one income family also, only I have 4 daughters. My husband flipped when I ASKED if I could buy a pattern from there. LOL! Lets just say "gotta love the $.99 sale at JoAnns and Hancock.

I almost refuse to buy patterns unless they're $.99 anymore. I almost won't buy the cheap Simplicty & McCalls that W-M carries because they cost too much. :rotfl:

I really dislike getting family pictures taken!!!! I always get ideas about what the 4 of us could wear and then I never find everything and the pics never happen! My nephew is starting a career as a photographer so I really need to make this look good for his portfolio. I'm off today to get some odds & ends and then I am home and back to work!

Those are beautiful pics. My SIL is trying to start a photography buisiness, but my girls won't let her take their pics hardly. She does it in her house & they want to play because they're at their cousins house.
I've seen some great b&w pics with everyone in white or white & denim.

Our W-M won't price match unless the store is in the same town. So even though I have 2 Hancock's, 3 Hobby Lobby's & a JoAnn's within 1/2, they don't match prices for them & with gas as high as it is shipping is cheaper. Sad, but true.

and Barefeet. if you do jeans and white t-shirts you have to do the barefeet. Yes, drew and riley's pictures were gorgeous. Your nephews photos are great!!

I also think that khaki pants and a black shirt looks nice in B/W photos. If you were making the girls something a bold black and white print would be nice, like big swirls..it wouldn't necessarily have to be Black, red or blue or any other dark color, so long as the colors you all wear are close enough to come out w/ the same variation of Black / grey KWIM?

I made the girls pumpkin hats to wear with their Halloween outfits (or whenever dd4 decides she needs a hat, she wears themw ith everything). Of course, the hats are fleece & still in the 70's now & 2 days ago it was nearly 90, but maybe they'll get to wear them.

I also made them princess pants outfits to wear when we eat lunch with the princesses in Epcot. I sorta Franken-cased them for an auction & saw on ebay. They used a Zuma pants pattern & I'm too cheap, no frugal, ;) to buy the pattern so I just made wide legged pants.

Ariel for dd2 (I may make a shell pattern for teh leg of the pants & make a little stuffed Flounder to go in it.):

Cinderella fro dd4 (she has a headband & choker to wear with this):

LOVE THOSE!!!! I really like practial outfits that are inspired by princess dresses. I think the shell idea is GREAT!!

I taught myself right at about a year ago too, cool! I am mildly obsessed though, ha ha. I even started a local knitting group.
I know the hat you are talking about. I totally drool over those, I want a felted one. I just haven't found the yarn I want for one yet. Yes, you need to switch to dpn's all you do is when the knitting won't reach all the way around the circular anymore (because of the decreases) you switch off to dpn's. Don't be intimidated they are easy, you just have to ignore the needles you aren't using.
You haven't ripped it out, have you? I wouldn't worry about where your marker is. Just pop a new one in and keep going. It really only makes a big difference in keeping track of your decreases, so if you aren't that far, just look towards the bottom where your tail is and put one in on that side of the hat. (Did that make any sense?)
The other hat sounds cute, is it Knitty's Piggle (I think that is the name)? I remember thinking that one was adorable.

Oh, gosh, I was addicted to knitting a couple of years ago!!! I must have made 200 felted purses and people were buying them like hotcakes for Christmas gifts. I stopped when I got such bad carpal tunnel...had the surgery and now I can knit if I want to...but I am so into sewing now...and then I bought all this stuff to scrapbook again...if only I could just finish one thing before I start 10 more! I did the Disney characters on purses (without felting) by buying cross stitch books and putting the pattern into my knitting. I better stop thinking about knitting...and get back to sewing this weekend now that I am feeling somewhat better...there are so darn many germs in Disney and on those planes. No wonder we all come back sick! But I think I would look rather odd wearing a mask, don't you?

The comment about recognizing a Dis'er and then the person being rude is why I am shy about going up to anyone....don't like to be treated rudely at all. Sorry that happened to you. If you don't want to be identified, why wear some article of clothing that does just that??? Oh, I bought the embroidery thread for my Disney machine and I am going to get that out this weekend....woo hoo...let's see what I can do.

In case anyone is interested, there is a 15% off code for Disney.com good until Monday...I got a little Einstein's rocket ship costume and a toddler Nemo costume, and some Knight costume for cheapo...and $5 shipping. I have to look up the code if you want it...got it in my email and it was one to pass onto friends. After seeing the Nemo musical at Disney, Makayla is in love with Nemo....

OT...Makayla loves the Einsteins and evidently there is this toy rocket ship that is called pat pat pat...it is interactive and only sold at Target. Well, it is sold out everywhere...original cost $40 and it is being sold on voldemart for hundred dollars and on other sites for $80...hopefully they will get more in for Black Friday...anyone see this pat pat pat thing?

Thanks! I love all the pics of the girls in their dresses at the parks, but dd4 wouldn't want to wear hers all day (she loves to dress up, but she's very much herself & doesn't want to 'be' someone else for long) & dd1 will be in a stroller most of the time & her dress would just get all bunched up & wrinkly leaving her little legs bare. When I saw these, I knew it was the perfect solution.

ok i can finally post!!! It would not let me earlier!
I was working on a dress for my dd5 to wear in our family pictures Sunday last night and I got to the point where I was just making one mistake after another. I have a hard time sewing when my concentration is not 100%. I am kind of a perfectionist (not in the way that stuff comes out perfect, just in the way that I am never completely satisfied with my work;) ), so I had to step away last night!

Here is a link to the pics. he's already done for us. Go to the blog and scroll down to Riley and Drew. I'd love some outfit ideas if anyone has any that they have done or seen for black and white family pics.

Your girls are gorgeous and I also have a Rylie!

I agree with all the suggestions! My dd11mo had a pic done with my hubby and Rylie wore a denim jumper and white shirt and hubby wore jeans and white log sleeve dress shirt. They turned out GREAT!

Thanks for all the info!!!
That's walmart for ya! We don't even have a Hancock here so I doubt they would price match but its worth a shot!!! 100Acreprincess_ love the hat and outfits! Super cute!

Ok quick question! How do you do the letters to applique on a shirt? I mean where do you get them that big or do you just freehand them? Newbie here asking a cabillion questions!;)

Oh, yeah, the pumpkin hats. Fantastic.. so clever. We rarely get to wear that kinda stuff down here, which is why it totally sucks that I like knitting:laughing:

on those appliqued letters, i haven't done them but I thought what I would do is get a good font from someplace like www.dafont.com and use word or whatever word processor you use and print it out then trace it onto the back of heat-n-bond and iron it onto the fabric then cut the letters out of the bonded fabric... make sense?? On dafont there is a mickey font which is the blocky angular letters and a waltograph, the semi cursivey disney letters.

if there's a better way someone with experience should chime in NOW

You type them in word (however big you want) and then print it out :)

Just remember to MIRROR image them before you print, or else when you iron them on, they'll read backwards. Don't ask how I know this :rolleyes1

Thank you guys for all your help!!!! And thanks UtahMama! I would probably have had a backwards applique!:rotfl:

Hi everyone. I bought some of those clay beads and now I have to figure out how to make them into a necklace for DD5. Does anybody have simple directions? Thanks. Still haven't taken the jump to buy a sewing machine. Even though you guys make it really hard with all the gorgeaous stuff you do.

Has anyone recently used the Simplicity patterns for Cinderella (#9383) or Belle/Aurora/Tink (#0622)? I just bought both on voldemort to use next year (DD is only 2 and won't appreciate them now) and they are scaring me. Is it really that hard? It includes darts and zippers and facings and all sorts of terms I am not familiar with.

I am a beginner so is this really over my head?

PIPERPIZAZZ--tear it out??? Hell, I threw the whole thing away!!! But I had lost track of some decreasing and was flustered. I don't think I can do that whole dpn thing. We'll see... And YES, it is the Piggle... How much do you LOVE that hat:love:  I can't wait to be brave enough to try it!!

...t.
Threw away knitting! aaaaah I am having heart palpitations over here. :scared:
I always tell myself that small children used to do the knitting back in the day so I can figure it out...so can you! :cheer2: Dpn's are just slightly awkward for a couple of minutes.

CUTE!

The rocket thing sounds like something Ds would like. I will have to keep my eye out for it.
Who was buying your handbags? Sometimes I think about doing craft shows but then I remember I am lazy. :lmao: I have tendonitis right now and I have to wear a wrist guard, I am very concerned about getting CTS, my mom had to have that surgery a long time ago but, luckily she hasn't had any problem since.

Ok, I guess I am just dumb. ...I got all the instructions on how to do the applique letters, but do you have to stitch around the letters, once they are on the shirt, so they do not come unraveled? or do they not come undone? I have bought appliqued dresses with Minnie head and they are stitched all around????

Ok quick question! How do you do the letters to applique on a shirt? I mean where do you get them that big or do you just freehand them? Newbie here asking a cabillion questions!;)

The letters are pretty easy....Open a new Word Document on your computer, then pick a font which is pretty plain (so it is easier to work with, Ariel Bold is a good one.) Then just increase the font size until it is the size you want, print them out and use as the "patterns"....and then applique them onto your item. I put heat n bond lite on a piece of fabric then cut out my pattern...but that is what I found to be easiest for me. Nana

To Stitch or Not to Stitch, That is the question.....LOL ...You can do a No-sew applique if you use regular heat n bond as your adhesive element. Then you can either leave them as is or use fabric puffy paint to outline it. I have done the Red Satin Tear drop shapes on the sleeves of my DGDs' Snow White Dressup costumes and they have stayed on for years. Now if you want to satin stitch around them you should use the heat n bond Lite product so it can be sewn through and not gum up the needle and create "thread nests" under the throat plate on the machine. If you are doing Tee Shirt type material, and going to stitch them use a fusible cut away stablizer underneath. Knits are not very stable fabric at all and will stretch out during the embroidery process. A good fusible cut away prevents this, I use Deco-Bond (BTY at Joann's, Walmart, and Hancock's). Nana

I have done both of these many times. the 9383 although it is the most authentic Cinderella Costume I have seen it can be very daunting for a "newbie". The one with Belle/Aurora/Tink is easier and I would recommend you try that one first. The girls/guys are very helpful here so when you have questions just post them. When I first started sewing......cough!!!!cough!!!!! 40+ years ago I would sit down and READ my pattern guide and research at the library any terms/techniques I did not understand before cutting out the material.
