I also made them princess pants outfits to wear when we eat lunch with the princesses in Epcot. I sorta Franken-cased them for an auction & saw on ebay. They used a Zuma pants pattern & I'm too cheap, no frugal, ;) to buy the pattern so I just made wide legged pants.

Ariel for dd2 (I may make a shell pattern for teh leg of the pants & make a little stuffed Flounder to go in it.):

Cinderella fro dd4 (she has a headband & choker to wear with this):

What a fantastic idea!!!!!! I love these. Casual princesses! Lydia would want to wear these ALL the time!
Sometimes I think about doing craft shows but then I remember I am lazy. :lmao:
:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: I do that too!
I have tendonitis right now and I have to wear a wrist guard, I am very concerned about getting CTS, my mom had to have that surgery a long time ago but, luckily she hasn't had any problem since.
I had CTS and had the surgery when I was 20. It hurt, a lot. But I've heard a lot of people say it isnt' bad. I think I had a bad doctor actually. When they went to do the second hand, a few weeks after the first, the doctor was ready to operate on the SAME hand! That made me nervous! I still have some problems with it, but that was 18 years ago that I had it done.

Ok so I sewed like a mad woman when the baby took her nap so I have her outfit like 95% done- so first thing when she woke up I put it on and took pictures to share so here they are:

I have to do some hemming on both the bottom of the skirt and the ruffle and I want to add something to the shirt like a mickey/ minnie head still debating.....

HOW INCREDIBLY ADORABLE!!!!! I love this outfit!! And your daughter is a cutie!! Great job!

She then gave me sage advice. If you get frustrated and ticked, it's going to be a tedious task. Just get the seam rippers and some coffee (my luck I'd spill it on the white dress!!) and sit down on the couch and watch some TV and work. She said that getting upset about it was only going to make the work harder. And really it went by very quickly, so I wanted to pass that advice on.

Also, remember to put your scissors away when you are done with them, and not to lay them on the couch. :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I generally print on cardstock so I can cut out the letters and then trace them onto the fusible backing or even trace them onto scraps of fabric and fusible that I have left from other projects. As someone mentioned, be sure you trace them backwards onto the fusible. I keep the letters in a small Ziploc bag so I can reuse them later.

Cute set! Can I make one suggestion for the future? I've seen others post about hemming these tiered type skirts after they are fully assembled and I'd just like to say I find it so much easier to hem the bottom tier before I gather it. Oh, I also hem the bottom of ruffles before I attach them to skirts, tops, jeans, etc. Again, it's much simpler to hem a flat piece of fabric, even one that is stitched into a loop, then it is to hem a ruffle.
Very good idea about the card stock! Also, I always hem before gathering too!:goodvibes

I Haaaaave!

The Aurora. It's a breeze, really....JUST kidding! It made me into crazy woman!

Not only is the pattern difficult, but I kept making DUMB mistakes (not the pattern's fault) like sewing the bodice to the skirt, inside out  I believe that bodice was ripped out violently and tossed after attempting THAT collar....I dunno, it's all a blurr now.

Let me know if you get stuck! Keep chocolate and bubble bath on hand, just sayin'!
Gosh I wish I had the page number where you did a "trip report" on your sewing of this dress.....it was sooooo funny. I would have inserted it here! :rotfl2:

Chiming: that's exactly how I do it. :)
I do this when I am gathering the yards and yards of fabric for a ruffle (no ruffler foot yet). I grab my ruffle, skirt, pins and seam ripper and plop down on my bed and put the tv on. You don't notice how long it takes that way (unless it is longer than one Daily Show episode: what? I'm not done yet?).
Ya I second that.......:sad2: still no ruffler foot for me either.:sad2:

I was working on a dress for my dd5 to wear in our family pictures Sunday last night and I got to the point where I was just making one mistake after another. I really dislike getting family pictures taken!!!! I always get ideas about what the 4 of us could wear and then I never find everything and the pics never happen!
Gee that sounds like me and it really gets frustrating when you finally get to the studio and no one will smile and look at the camera at the same time :sad2:

My nephew is starting a career as a photographer so I really need to make this look good for his portfolio. I'm off today to get some odds & ends and then I am home and back to work!
Absolutely beautiful pics!!!! :goodvibes

I made the girls pumpkin hats to wear with their Halloween outfits (or whenever dd4 decides she needs a hat, she wears themw ith everything). Of course, the hats are fleece & still in the 70's now & 2 days ago it was nearly 90, but maybe they'll get to wear them.

2007_10120109.jpg

Brrrrrrr here too....I love that hat~

I also made them princess pants outfits to wear when we eat lunch with the princesses in Epcot. I sorta Franken-cased them

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :thumbsup2 Love the terminology!!! Adorable outfits....can't wait to see them on!!!!

Okay, Let me just say how extremely sweet, helpful and generous the people are on this board!!!!!!!! I am in awe of the generosity I have been shown by people who don't even know me!! I want to say thank you to EMAIL FAIRY!!!!
Awwwwww you are so sweet too! :grouphug:

Off topic, I know no appologies :)

There are so many HSM mommys here, I need some help.

We have a DVR and my DD6 deleted HSM2 today, she doesn't know yet but I am heartsick at the thought of telling her.

Does anyone know when the next showing will be on the Disney Channel? I can't find any information on it.

Thanks

I am trying to teach myself how to crochet. I would love to make a pirate hat!

The book I used and that worked was Teaching Yourself Visually to Crochet. That and there is the Happy Hooker. Between the two of them I was able to figure it all out

Good luck!

Thanks for all of the picture ideas everyone! I got the girls some really cute white shirts at Gap yesterday that have just a tiny bit of beading on them and myself a knit white shirt that has a tiny ruffle at the neck. I guess dh will just wear a white button up. I just hope when I put my jeans on tomorrow that I am not hanging over the top!

I am taking a friend to the hospital this morning for some tests. They found a lump in her stomach at her gyn appt last week so she is having a sonogram. After that I am picking up my kids, running around like crazy finding the last few things we need to wear and then coming home and finishing Drew's dress. I still have to put the zipper in!!!!!!!!!!! Yikes!

Wish me luck. I feel terrible about it but I have a sick feeling that I might have to play hookee from church tomorrow to get all of this finished up by 1:00 tomorrow.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We should have an advice page on the links with gems such as these!

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: Funny funny funny!

Cute hat and I love the princess inspired outfits! I like the seashell idea!

There is a trick for Hancocks. If you sign up for emails they send you a flyer. Print the flyer and take it to Walmart. They match prices. I know sometimes our Hancocks sells out of patterns and I was able to get them at Walmart.

Our W-M won't price match unless the store is in the same town. So even though I have 2 Hancock's, 3 Hobby Lobby's & a JoAnn's within 1/2, they don't match prices for them & with gas as high as it is shipping is cheaper. Sad, but true.

My WM will match all ads unless they are from online. So be careful about telling them you printed the ad from online. I had a cashier tell me that and let mine slide. I don't know how they can not match from out of town, I didn't know each WM would have different policies on that! I'd check w/the manager on that one! I live in the middle of nowhere and WM is all we have, everything else is at least 45m away!

I vote YES for a Mickey on the top!!! Nice fabrics!

You know the patterns are expensive but I have not bought a store pattern since I discovered YCMT. I like them becuase they are for anyone who wants to sew. I feel fairly confident that I can follow any pattern. I even did those fancy princess gowns but I love the YCMT patterns. I feel they are worth it because you can get a lot of use out of them.

I 2nd that! I LOVE their patterns and have used them countless times! Except the peasant top is complicated and I prefer the free one in Teresa's bookmarks!

I use my Paint Shop Pro software because it's easier for me to adjust the size of the letters to fit in the space I have available. I also like to do the letters so they are just a line for the shape so I save on toner (did I mention I'm cheap? ;) ).

Good idea! Never thought of using PSP or cardstock! Just one more addition to my "LisaZoe's book of knowledge!!"

Can't forget that seam ripper! :rotfl2: Just don't sit on that either!

I am working on the outfit from Hell!! :furious: My bobbin case broke a few weeks ago so I got a new one and "fixed" the problem. Started an outfit this week, twirl top, check, applique jeans, check. Moved on to the ruffle...not so good. When I attached my ruffle foot I stitched a few stitches then... jammed!! I checked the bobin case and the needle had made a hole in it!!! :scared1: And the bobbin case would not stay put!! So I found a repair shop and took it in. Surprisingly he had a replacement bobbin case and realligned the case and viola $30 later I am up and sewing again! So I tackle the ruffle again... this time the ruffler FALLS apart!! All that shaking the ruffler does made some screws come loose!! I finally get waayy to many ruffles made, and attached when the needle on the machine falls out!! Sheesh. It is now 11:30 at night and I just have to put the stinkin straps on!!! One more strap end to attach and....the needle breaks!! :headache: Once this outfit is done, DD is wearing it everyday for the month of November, because of all the trouble it has caused me!! And, I have to make another one for my neice!! I like sewing...I like sewing... I guess I am off to Joann's this morning!!

I feel for you Leslie!!!!!!!!! Go to Joann's and get what you need, but also take a therapeutic stroll around the fabric dept!!!!

Here's dd2's Monsters Inc outfit that she's been wanting. I made a matching skirt last night, but haven't gotten pics yet. I will get it on her before lunch, I promise!!! I used a pair of corduroy's that she already had, I wasn't sure about the decoupage on corduroy, but it works great! I've also started using a nailbrush (for cleaning fingernails) to gently start the fraying of my patches.

TIP for decoupage: If you didn't know this already double stitch your patches!!!!!! The HSM jeans I made for dd8 & dd7 are starting to fall apart! Now I stitch around about 1/4" in from edge, then again about 1/8" inside that. It makes the world of difference!!!

HI Everyone,

Outfits are looking GREAT!! you all have such cool ideas!!!

I was wondering - how many people actually use a pattern they buy and how many people kind of "wing it"???

How do you go about making a "Twirl Top"? That would be incredibly cute!!!

Is Joann's having any good sales this weekend????

Happy Saturday!

I don't like store-bought patterns. Although my favorite pants pattern is Simplicity 3740 - and super easy to use! I've also cut out the pieces for a peasant top using Simplicity 3743 but haven't sewn it together yet. I'm trying to finish an applique first. I like the patterns from youcanmakethis.com, they are super easy to follow and perfect for beginners as well as the accomplished seamstress! They have a cute twirl top on there too!

I don't know when it is on but you can usually go to the Disney Channel website and it will tell you. I will try and find it and edit if I do.

Monsters Inc Skirt. Here's the skirt I made last night... She loves to pose! She does the "cheese" face too!

Oh my goodness! Hope you get it finished, I like your mantra: I like sewing. I'll have to use that when I get frustrated.

So cute! And even cuter on! I love peasant tops and the coordinating fabric looks great!

I am a pattern person: I much prefer to have a pattern to work from. I think it's because I am not so good at math. For a swing top, I take my pattern (McCalls M5310) and use it for the upper part. Then I made an A shaped pattern (4 inches on the top, 6 inches on the bottom and 12 inches long for a size 5-6) and cut out the strips, gather and attach to the top part. Then I add a ruffle to the bottom. It is pretty easy, although time consuming. And the best part is that it twirls!

I love this fabric and what you did with it! I will have to try a t-shirt dress. I am afraid the weight of the fabric will pull the knit shirt. Do you have that problem?

HeatherSue: I bought the pattern you used for the doggy outfit when they were on sale, so expect some pms if I get stuck! It is such a cute pattern, I want to try Christmas fabric with it.
