Welcome home Utahmama!!!We heard lots of stories about you while you were gone!!
Becareful w/ the laundry, don't break an elbow:rotfl: :rotfl: We're officially NOT doing laundry to keep our insurance premiums down.;)

Oh and Steph, I didn't realize you were feeling crummy. Sorry to hear it. Hope you feel better soon.
...t.

Not to mention a month after I broke my elbow on the laundry my DD fell of DS toddler bed and broke her wrist- Full arm cast for 3 weeks. Boy did we make a pair. :rotfl2:

Okay, anyone doing the tulle twirl skirt from YCMT, do you hate the way she tells you to ruffle? I am currently ruffling about 15 feet of fabric for my 2 year old's skirt and she says to use a wide zig zag stitch and put elastic thread down the middle of the zig zag as you sew. After you are done, pull and gather. I HATE THIS! I have always used the basting stitch way of ruffling and like it better (no reason why that can't be done with this but I figured I'd try something new). Just wondering if anyone else is having any problems with this, my elastic has snapped twice now. Just getting frustrated and wanted to vent a little. Back to gathering I go!

I did my own ruffles and gathered them with basting stitches. I also added lots more tulle ruffles when it was done...my 2 year old DGD is too small to have so little tulle - it looked silly, much better after I fixed it.

I did that one and I did the regular basting stitch for the gathers, which was quite hard with that tiny bit of fabric she gives you for the ruffle. And don't get me started on the tulle. I read the part about cutting it five time and then gave up and pinned it around the skirt and didn't cut anything. Next time I make it I'll make the ruffle bigger. Anyway, you are not alone!

I had to really look at that picture to understand what she meant about cutting that tulle...and look again and again until I got it. But like I said above, it wasn't nearly enough tulle and looked rather flimsy...so I added a lot more gathered tulle and it looked great..can't post pics as I am at work, but it is the one of Makayla in the purple Tinkerbell with the corsette top that comes to points in the front.

I love this! It looks easy enough, I think. :goodvibes I would love to do this on a dress for her, but appliquing is not something I'm fabulous at doing. I've never pieced together an applique, that would be the hard part for me. Any tips?

Hi Gang! Live from Disney!

I met UtahMama briefly tonight and saw her family, what a cutie she has in Norah! Their costumes were great!

We had sooooooo many great comments on our costumes tonight!

Really all week so far!

Here are a few photos from tonight!

I will be sure to post more pictures when I get back!

What a great family. I just got the biggest smile from the pictures. What a lucky girl to have such fun parents.

I am desperately looking for a jumper dress/top pattern like this one...

It doesn't have to be just like this, but a similar bodice, straps, and full skirt like this one.

I figured if anyone knows, it would be you girls!

Any ideas!? Thanks!

Beautiful outfits! Is the first one Mickey Heads or 101 Dalmations! I love the big Minnie Dot outfit, I'm partial to that fabric!

It is Mickey heads....We, I mean my daughter of course, were never into Mickey and Minnie, until we started planning for our DW trip. Now we, I mean my daughter, is obsessed with the both of them!

I use Butterick 3477 and alter the tie straps to button-ons. I like that patterns because it also has a top pattern, shorts and pants.

I would think that you could use the pattern for the bodice to the stripwork dress and instead of strips use either 1 cointinuous piece w/ the seam in the bac or 2 peices of fabric w/ side seams...but either way just use either twice or three times her waist measurement depending on how full you want it( I used 3x on DD's twirl top). Add ruffle, voila!

Those are so cute! I love the cupcake. What kind of fabric did you use for the face/hat? It kind of looks like flannel or felt is why I asked and I am thinking of trying that.

Regular cotton on everything but chenille on the cupcake icing and 1 letter.

It is super easy, don't be intimidated! Start with something to just practice on, skip the polka dots if you want, my machine actually had an eyelet stitch and that is what I used for them. Just cut and use some heat n bond, sew, cut next piece, bond n place, sew. Really, it is easy!

Tom - LOVE the costumes! I bet everyone was making a fuss! Do you have a costume contest back home you could enter? They are winners for sure!

:cool1: WOO HOO!! I am done with my no sew/little bit sew project. I sewed the skirt and the tops are no sew. I just used the minnie dot fabric and ironed it on the shirts, along with the Minnie heads and then sewed on bows (which I made myself :goodvibes ). Now that I look at the pic the bow on my DD shirt is bigger than the one on my mom's top but oh well, hopefully no one will be looking that closely at it. I cannot wait to give the top to my mom when we get there, she is probably going to cry!!

I will try to post a pic later tonite with my daughter wearing her outfit.

Thanks again to everyone who helped me out thru this project, now I can clean up my kitchen a bit and we can have that room back. :rotfl2:

Your minnie dot outfits came out wonderfully:banana:  I bet you are so excited!!! I wonder though, if you used a fray check or something on the edge of the fabric you ironed to the shirts. Otherwise w/out some stitching they are probably going to fray.

Thank you!! I am excited I can't wait to go get DD from school today, to bad we have to run to doc appt. first before we come home.

I didn't use anything?? I really was looking for something just to wear the one day we are MK, do you think I can fray check on the edge of the red minnie dot now that it is on the shirt??

Yes, I have done that before when I forgot. Just fray check it along the edges and you'll be fine. They look great and I bet she will cry!

All of these were made using the stripwork jumper pattern from ycmt. Actually it's the only pattern for a bodice that I use now. For the skirt I cut 2 strips of fabric at least 36 in. long. Sew at side seams, gather and attatch to the bodice. Make it the length you want - shorter for a top, longer for a dress.

I made the bodice a little longer on the sock monkey dress
