Here are finally some posts of my DS4 and DS8. I think they are wondering why I only ever post photos of their sisters. These are the flannel pj bottoms I made them (pretty much the easiest item to make of all) and appliqued some cheap T-shirts.

DS4 with Buzz Lightyear PJs, a scratch on his neck from his brother, and the goofy expression of a 4 year old boy

I hope I didn't already post this one. If I did sorry! DS8 in Yoda PJs, insisting on doing some imaginary light saber maneuvers typical of an 8-year-old boy

I bought both of these flannels at Joanns and they are very thick and soft! Even more so after I washed them. I want some PJs too! I also happened to find some matching yoda fleece at Walmart so I bought it to make a matching blanket.

I saw these Halloween Treat Bags posted on another board this morning, and thought they were too cute to not share with you ladies!! She did an amazing job on these!! Maybe an idea for anyone going to MNSSHP?

http://www.sewforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=66919

There aren't directions posted with the pattern, so if anyone does make these please post how you did it. I spent way too long looking at the pattern, trying to walk through the steps in my head, but just couldn't do it. I think I'm just going to have to play with the pattern (but next Halloween - I can't fit one more thing in between now and the end of the month!!)

you have to be a member to link at the link above. I tried if any one is can you post the picture on here. Thanks

Question about shirring.... I plan to try this either today or tomorrow and had a question.

If I want to make a peasant top with shirring only in the back, is that possible? Do I need to do a bunch of lines or would a couple be ok? dd8 doesn't like how the peasant tops fit her, she would rather it be more fitting. But, I don't want shirring in the front.

ETA: Who does this darling belong to? I like that top, but is it shirred or is that just a sash tied around a regular peasant top?

Holy Smokes! I'm all caught up with all the new creations! A-Mazing!!!!!

I have a mean case of Laundry-Elbow...but I'll be back to the sewing machine soon.

My pictures are not exactly in photobucket yet, but I'll post em as soon as I'm able. LOTS of attention was given to Norah (Princess Pissy) whenever she wore something I made. Especially the Animal Kingdom outfit, which I didn't post before.

Ack, the adjustment back to real life is hard!

I like your stitch settings on this! I'm always afraid to use that, do the appliques not fray?

No, they don't fray. I got the idea to do them further apart from ebay and love the look. I have been doing it that way for now 3 years and never an issue. I used about a 6 for width and I think 6 for length, 4 for width for the main areas. Others I adjust smaller for the details.

Good almost afternoon ladies:surfweb: I had to bring the dear, sweet, hurricane lily to work this am so I've had NO time to chat. But she's gone and now maybe I can get some work and some posting done. Can't wait to see Your pictures Utahmama. Get them up soon!!!
Last night I began drafting my halloween costume, I'm not using the previous pattern. I decided to go w/ simple instead. I also won an auction for a wool fedora for dh last night for 13.00 I was so THRILLED!! My mom has taken care of DS's costume, the only part of Lily's left is her "newspaper" bag and shoes Gotta still find some pinstriped pants for dh and a vest (he doesn't want to wear a jacket so you can see his gun holster:cool2: ) and to go to the halloween store and get scar stuff. He wanted to get a white out contact for one eye but they're too expensive for 1 night. Normally we'd bite the bullet, we're a bit eccentric w/ our costumes normally but this year we're BROKE and I'm not even sure we're going to have tix to the parks other than MNSSHP so no big fancy extras. Also why I'm changing dress patterns- $$$. B is ranting about how we'll be in Orlando for a week w/ nothing to do. I know better. Even if we don't go to the parks there's Ft. Wilderness (the petting zoo, hay rides, campfire) and we like to watch the Electric Water Pageant and MK's fireworks from the Poly beach and we like to go monorail hopping 1 day (which usually means pin trading, DH knows we don't have traders but I just won a pin lot on :wizard: for just over 2$ a pin, I'm going to surprise them!!) Then we've never gone to WDW's miniature golf courses, we might do that this year. So I'm not overly stressed but DH is making me NUTS!!! And we are going w/ another 2 families and none of them will commit to any kind of schedule and I'm a planner and those families have mega$$$ (which also stresses DH out!!) so there are a lot of stress factors about this vacation and THIS board and focusing on Lily's outfits is about the only thing keeping me sane. We (b and I both work for my family) had a rough winter last year and were laid off from Nov. to April. I'm still only back part time and work is steady but not BOOMING (but we're fighting back, you can't just throw away 14 years of building a business). about half way through our layoff I developed this insatiable need to create. ANYTHING. painting, knitting, making cards... any craft I could get my hands on and afford. It has been therapeutic to say the least. But this board has let me stretch beyond following a knitting pattern or copying a sample craft.. I've been able to come up w/ my own ideas (even if inspired by someone else's) and even make my own pattern-however simple. Not to mention the super bunch of ladies I've got to know so I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for making this board what it has become.:grouphug:

Sorry, I didn't mean to get all mooshy... it's not like me. I should have a funny quip right now, but I don't. Don't get used to it, I'm sure I'll be my normal sarcastic, smartass self shortly.

p.s. I've decided that since I have some lightweight denim for a non-dis project that I have WAY to much of (fabric overbuyers of the world unite!) that pairing khaki pants or black leggings w/ DD's AK twirl top would be a sin and she needs denim pants w/ animal print mickey heads- still debating the bottom trim (ruffle or turned up cuff???) :confused3

Hi Everyone!

I am attempting a tied tutu for Laila and I have a few questions...

1) How do you keep the elastic from stretching out as you tighten the tulle piece around it?

2) Do you have to worry about the elastic twisting?

3) Has anyone ever tried stitching them down to keep the ties from moving around the elastic? By hand or machine?

I am trying to figure out if I am missing some step- they are so expensive on Ebay! I bought 100 yds of tulle for less than 12 bucks and so far I think 25 yards makes a cute shorter length tutu for her- she is only 2, but I also want to try a longer one as well.

Thanks for any help!

These are all so cute! My favorite is the Mickey one!

Well, that's it for me tonight. Goptta get the kiddos to bed.
TJ: I'll tell Brandon you think I'm funny when he gets home, he'll think it's a joke.:confused3
I think you're pretty durn funny too, Tiffany (can I call you Tif for short?- I'M KIDDING! :rotfl2:)!

You're probably too busy packing to check the boards, but I love the finished outfit!! DD is absolutely adorable, too!

What a couple of handsome boys!! I love DS4's hair. I don't want to show his pic to Tessa or she may just fall in love  (she does that a lot)! Cute pants!

As the shirring expert (I've shirred perty near 4 times now ;) )- yes you can shirr just the back. I think you'd need a minimum of 4 lines to make it look good, but I'm not shirr. You can even start the shirring in the middle of the shirt (you don't have to go from seam to seam).

You can shirr just the back. I'd probably do it before I put the front & back together. Probably just 3 or 4 lines would give you all the 'fit' you need. if it doesn't look like enough, remember that it will pull up A LOT if you steam it with your iron.

:grouphug: There are so many wonderful women on this board! It's been great for me, too. I have an auto-immune disease that really knocks me on my butt sometimes. But, I can usually still sit at my computer, even on my bad days. You ladies really lift my spirits.

Welcome back, Wendy! I can't wait to see pictures of your beautiful family!

Since 3 out of the last 4 posts are mine, I suppose I should get outta here! I'm off to work on Tessa's "Winter Fairy" costume. My mom took the kids to the zoo. So, I'm all alone in the house and hardly know what to do with myself!!

This is OT - but do any of you guys frequent the gymborebel board? Are you having problems getting on this morning? I think I recognize some kiddos on here that I thought I had seen there before.

Hey guys I have been out of the loop a minute. We ended up moving and we have been hard and heavy at the adoption. I had to postpone my sewing class as well because of the adoption and my youngest bio is supposed to have some surgery in Nov. With the adoption it is looking like I will have my 4 little ones before Halloween.:scared:

I have the girls taken care of because we are going to do the "tulle" tutu dresses I can do those no problem because they are no sew. I figure we can go with faires or whatever from those. We will dress them up with accessories and even my DD 14 is happy with them. Just going to be a LOT of tulle for 3 dresses lmao.

Ok so now I have 3 boys too. My oldest wants to be Jack Sparrow. The boys that we are waiting on love pirate stuff too. So I was thinking is there a really really simple shirt that I can make? I can sew a straight line and have made quilts. As long as it is fairly simple I think I can make it through with no big issues. I was thinking of making the pants pj type pants with elastic waists because I am pretty sure I can handle that. How hard could it be? Or am I kidding myself? So we have left shirts and vests. I am worried about vests but I am focusing on how to do shirts. Any ideas?

I am waiting till everyone is here before I start because well things could always fall apart. I will probably do most of it the week of or a little earlier before Halloween. I am just trying to start making decisions.

I have no sewing advice but I wanted to congratulate you on the adoption. What a wonderful thing your family is doing bringing 4 new members into it.

Nope, elastic waisted pants are pretty straight forward, though you may need a pattern cause the "rise"(read: crotch) is a little tricky to figure. But w/ a pattern and sewing a straight line, you should be good. Check the photo bucket there is a lovely family of pirates there and maybe a few ideas you could simplify.
Best of luck w/ your adoption and your halloween projects. Glad to have you back!!

HEY YOU! Glad to see you post!

Right before we left for our trip, I just gave up on the shirt idea and went to Party City on the loop (by Burlington Coat Factory) and bought a pirate costume kit that had the shirt, a vest & belt with it. It is a gauzy type fabric and it works really well. I think I paid about $14 for it. I figured it was MUCH easier than trying to figure out how to sew a shirt.

Okay I have probably the strangest question/request of anyone on here. Totally OT, but I don't know who else to ask. Does anybody have swim diapers still in their stores?? I need some for ds for our WDW trip in December. But since we are in Alaska and it's currently 23 degrees no stores have them out anymore. I forgot to buy them this summer. I only need a couple just in case we swim. Is there any kind individuals out there who are willing to send some my way? I'll pay for the diapers and shipping of course!

Now back to our regularly scheduled sewing :happytv:

ETA Some wonderful ladies have helped me out! Thank you!!!!!

You know what else, my DH wore a woman's blouse w/ puffy pirate sleeves we found at good will. You could start checking there..you may have to broaden your idea of a pirate shirt a bit and remember its the sleeves that are the key.

Shannon I am a lot closer to you now. We moved to a 6 bedroom really close to the lake in Gladewater.

They only come in little boys sizes though right? DS 12 is a small adult size. I think I may do this for the younger boys though because it will help me out a bit. I will go check goodwill too I had not thought about that. We have one here in Gladewater and there are a few in Longview. I typically like to have my kids "match" but we will deal this year because I cannot afford my seamstress for 6 kids lmao. I am going to try the pants and making them out of brown flannel so they can be comfy and also can use them for sleep pants after Halloween.

Thank you for the well wishes. I am glad to be moved and that this part of the process is almost done. It has been a rollercoaster and I am ready to get off. ;)
