That is fabulous!! He's such a handsome guy and fierce for sure - LOL!
He is isnt he? :thumbsup2

What a touching story. It brought tears to my eyes. You have an amazing daughter.
Thank you!

I wish I could give you all a hug (well, maybe not Teresa for embarassing her son like that :rotfl2: ). This is such a nice group of people. I appreciate you all! :grouphug:
It is isn't it? This is the one place I want to come when I'm feelling bad. :cloud9:

What a very special person both you and your daughter are. You must have taught her so well to be so knid to others well done to both of you
Sam from Downunder
Thank you! Oh we so want to see Australia, maybe one day.

Susan-I have to chime in here as well. There are truly some ingorant people out there. I am an adoptive mom as well, and when we came home from China, complete strangers would come up to us and ask "how much she cost?' I lost it one day and just said "5.99 a pound" :rotfl2:
I had to say something funny stupid or I was going to lose it.
Its kind of like the same thing when you are pregnant and complete strangers come up and touch your belly.
see,we have been doubly blessed . We tried for 7 years to get pregnant, had medical issues, and decided family can be made more than one way,I just knew my daughter was in China. 2 weeks after we came home with her,I went in for a ultrasound for a fibroid, and the technician said, "do you want to hear the heartbeat??" I said," of what?",she said "of your baby, your 2 1/2 months pregnant" I was in shock, she cried- I cried, dont ask,lol
anyway, adoption made us a family and my other daughter made us a bigger family, lol
but just to show you the ignorance, when people found out I was pregnant, they asked me if I was going to send my daughter back to china??    after that,I just knew anything was possible to come out of somebody's mouth, and the worst thing,it was a family member who said it.

big hugs to you and your family and DD

   :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

My first attempt at the peasant top...

and can you believe these are the best pics I could get...that silly wiggle worm wouldn't stop. And pardon the messy face I interrupted snack time.

Next one I want to make a little bigger. Give her room to grow.
I think it turned out ok. I have discovered my biggest problem when sewing....lead foot. Ugh, I don't usually speed, but when I am sewing, I seriously need to slow down. Its not like it saves time, cause I spend twice as long with the seam ripper :)

Any one ever make these long and call it a dress?

It looks awesome! I love the fabric you chose, too! Your little wiggle worm is precious!

Marcy

Marcy,

It IS amazing how many strangers feel they have the right to comment on our families. I had a salesman walk up to me and loudly ask me "where she came from" So I said, "What you don't know where babies come from"? He slunk away and I "chatted" with his manager. I finally had a tee shirt made for me that says "You don't have the right to question my family". Which I wear proudly :cool1:

And then she worked ALL summer to make the rest of the needed amount of money to pay for their tickets and room. She worked hard. So my nieces and grand nephew have her to thank for their trip to WDW. I am trying to make clothing for them to wear so that they don't have added the expense of clothing for the trip.

If she knew I was telling on her she would be so embarassed.

WOW! She may not be perfect (who is??), but that is one GREAT girl. I know you have to be very proud of her.

Just love this thread...you are all so wonderful and so complementary - OT my DD (37) called today crying uncontrollably because of a rude remark a coworker made about adoptive parents....something along the lines that they don't count, or don't matter....it had to do with a discussion of something in the media between a parent and child (perhaps a star?),,,but she was so upset she couldn't make a lot of sense at the time. She and her DH cannot conceive..and never will...and they adopted a baby boy from Russia who is now 3. God definitely chose Nicholas for them and for our family and he is so loved... I just don't understand what motivates some people. Would love to make those adorable overalls with the safari Mickey for Nicholas. He loves AK!
Susan:love:
I am so sorry to hear this! It doesn't matter if you gave birth to your child or someone else did, if you chose to love them and take care of them, they are yours!! Almost anyone can have a child, but it takes someone very special to be a parent!! Some people are so ignorant!! Give your daughter a big hug for me!:grouphug:

I love this! The striped pattern as a border looks so perfect! I don't see why she can't wear it at Disney, but it looks like it will get lots of wear either way. So cute! Look I made a thumbprint: first try!

Ok, I decided to put the Epcot top away for a while so I could think and gather everyone's responses. Thanks to everyone who helped.

Here is the animal kingdom outfit for Jacob (thank you Camping Griswalds for the tree):

It seems to be missing something to me. It doesn't say "Disney" to me or even "Animal Kingdom." I'm not really sure what to add. Probably something from the tiger print fabric I used for the shorts, but I'm not sure. Opinions are welcomed (and needed). Thanks again!

Oops Teresa, I just noticed that you got busted! I hope your son has the same sense of humor that you and your sister have! :)
I love that tiger fabric for boy AK outfits. Where did you find it?

Does anyone know where I can find the Pirates Cove Treasure Map from Timeless Traditions fabric (besides Voldemort)?

I thought someone said at Hancocks but I could be wrong, I couldn't find it at mine. Thanks for any help.

Okay Ladies, and Tom...I just wanted to show you all that I haven't been lurking...I've been sewing too...

This isn't completed...almost...I'm still working on getting the buttons on and the jeans...

I LOVE Raggedy Ann! I still have my dolls from when I was a little girl!

I know I've been lurking more than posting lately (it's the only way I can keep up with this *enormous* thread anymore). I just wanted to pop in and say that I love everyone's new outfits! You've all done some amazing work! I can't wait to see more. I've got a couple more almost done, and a few more in the works. I'll be sure to post pics once I finish. Keep up the good work ladies (and Tom :) ) !

*Castle* don't forget to post pics when you return home from visting the Mouse. We'll all be waiting with baited breath!

OK, I have a question...I made a horizontal(is that the up and down, I can never remember?) skirt today for my DN and her waist is 21 inches and I made the skirt 60 inches, but it really doesn't seem to have the twirl factor that I was hoping for. Should I have made it longer than 60 inches? What is the rule of thumb on these? The same goes for the shirts approximately how long do you make them so they look good? What size do you all cute your panels? TIA

TIA

Ohhh. I'm so sorry. I feel so sad for your DD. That rude coworker had to know that your daughter adopted and to make that (ridiculous) comment in her presence was just cruel. He or she must have something seriously devoid in his or her life to say things like that for no other reason than to cut somebody else down.

Trying one more time in case the night crew didn't see it earlier. Does anyone remember the discount code for YCMT?

I'm gald I'm not the only lame one looking at 2 yds of minnie dot thinking " that could be a matching top for me!!"

I NEED purple pooh toile. None at my waldemort, they are nixing their craft sections...  and they had crap there.

any help??
...t.

I am really far behind but . . . I am going to make a A line skirt for myself for Chef Mickey's. I am even going to put on a black ruffle. The skirt is a surprise for my girls. They will die when they see Mommy dressed up. I think I will get DH a set of big hands. That is as far as he will go!

One more serger question. Do you buy serger thread for every single project like you do thread? Or do you have a few basic colors since it's on the seam and not seen? I'm seeing how this thread could get pretty pricey!

Try WWMAG, I think that was it. I used it and I was trying to find the piece of paper that I wrote it on, and that is the only thing I see scratched on it...

i tried that code today and a message came up that i need to be logged into my acct to use the code. what acct are they talking about? do i have to set up an acct w/ ycmt first? has anyone used this successfully?????

This is what I did ...
I found a $80 marked-down display model, from wallymart about 4-5(?) years ago; it was around $299 retail to start with (& up to $399 at some stores, still today) ...
When I bought it, I asked for the box & noted that all the attachments & Info sheets were still inside it. :)
They had it hid under their fabric table for quite awhile, so it had been marked done in the computer SEVERAL TIMES, it was marked $180, but a quick scan showed it would ring up at $80. :yay:
Being a display model, of course people & children had spun all the tension dials & fiddled with all the parts ... so, when I got it home, I spent about 2 hours reading the manual & resetting the tensions (don't let that scare you. It takes me 1-2 minutes NOW, that I know how it's done right.) ... And It's been just wonderful ever since! :) ...
I clean it out with an air compressor after every other outfit and I've oiled it once or twice. ... I pre-cut most of my fabric (*roller-blade addict*), hence I don't use the serger's blades very often = so, they are still sharp, after all this time. ... I change the needles every once in awhile, since I work with alot of denim ...
+ I put that rubbery-shelf liner stuff under it, so that it does not run around the table when I'm using at full trottle. :)
I love it ... it's a Brother 1034D

Alot of the Wallymarts are remodeling = I'd check around the fabric tables, to see if there's a serger they aren't displaying anymore, ask if it's marked down and if they still have it's box & contents :) ... And IF you aren't up to fiddling with it to get it up-to-par again, perhaps check local sewing machine shops, to see what they charge for tune-ups :) ... You could save a couple hundred dollars, if you time it right. ... AND remember, keep your receipt & box, since Wallymart has a 90 days return policy, just in case. ;)

You could use pricegrabber.com ... IF you're looking online.
I've had great machine luck & customer service with sewvacdirect.com, with 3 machines & tons of other things :)
I saw a NEW ONE at buy.com

I walked by another, newer model at one of my wallymarts lately (now-ex-display-model), but didn't see a price tag = if you want me to, I can ask them about it for you ...

GOOD LUCK! :flower3:

My Dh just bought me the Singer Ultralock from Wally's this past weekend. It was $190 and worth every penny. I love it. It is easy to use and fairly easy to thread. I am thrilled I have and cannot wait to work on my projects this week.
