Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 3

Okay, I finally had some time to get the pictures off of my camera and uploaded. These aren't Disney creations, but I hadn't sewn in years and feel like I need some practice before I cut up the Disney fabric.

This was my first project. I even did this without a pattern.

megantwirldress.jpg

DD saw this pre-shirred fabric at Waldemort so this easy top became my next project. I even had enough fabric left to make a dress for her doll.

meganeasytop.jpg

DD's 8th birthday was Sunday and she wanted an "under the sea" party. Of course I remember seeing this fabric and picked it up the while I was at Waldemort picking up the last of the party supplies. Stayed up WAAAYYY past my bedtime Friday night finishing this, but she loved it.

Now I need to finish her Tinkerbell overalls. Then I may try something appliqued for DS.

Okay Ladies, and Tom...I just wanted to show you all that I haven't been lurking...I've been sewing too...

This is the Spongebob outfit that I have been working on for my professor's grand-daughter..it has matching pants too...

273407323.jpg

This isn't completed...almost...I'm still working on getting the buttons on and the jeans...
273407333.jpg

This is a dress for Miss Ireland to wear to school, over a tee...I haven't made the pants for this one yet...but I loved the fabric...

OK, here we go!!!!! Can you hardly stand the excitement!!! This picture was 14 years in the making!!!!!

th_003.jpg

The pants is the outfit Heather made Corey when he was about 1. It was a little big then, but look at it now!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: (3 minimum) Corey is doing his Mervyn's mannequin pose for you all! Actually, he said, "Do NOT put those pictures on the internet Mom!" Yeah, right, like I wouldn't take this opporutunity to embarass him!

Wait, what's this picture doing here?

Okay, I bought this fabric because someone on here made something with it and I really liked it. Then I had it in my head that it would be a short mini, kind of mod. So I hunted for a pattern, found one I loved- even though it's not remotely mod-esque- sewed the dress, bought a fabulous bracelet from a disboard member and now, I haven't a clue when or where this dress will be worn! It's a little too dressy for park wear and for our WDW trip, our only dinner night will be a different themed outfit. So I told DH we'll have to book dinner here at DL one night just so she can wear the darn dress :rotfl2:

Anyway, I still like it and so does DD8 so it'll probably get some regular wear anyway.

dottedmandm.jpg

I include a picture of the back because the bracelet maker was kind enough to throw in an extra button for the back of the dress. I'll make sure DD8 wears her hair up so it can be seen!

dottedmandm2.jpg

Too cute! I would totally have her wear it to the park! Throw a pair of bike shorts on under it and she is ready to go!

Oh i am so glad you were sewing! The Spongie is very cute. I love the Raggedy Ann! Can't wait to see it finished. My fav is the dress for Ireland. The fabric and colors and how you styled it are fantastic!

Eeyore's Tiara thank you so much for sharing that story with us, I love reading things like that. She sounds like a wonderful girl.

Ok, I got my pictures. Here is what I made last night. All opinions are welcome.

Should I do the face and hair in matching thread instead of black? Should I make capris to go with it or skorts? What color? Should I alter the jeans as orginally planned? Why is it so bloody hot here? HELP!

Here is the baby going off to school this morning. She had a great day, but I was a wreck!

100_1666.jpg

I'm right with you about the heat!! I'm totally over it....My dd started 1st grade on Monday, but we don't have busses..we have to drive them...

Ok guys I am going to reenter the sewing world I think. DD (14) decided she wanted a tutu and a corset and a peasant shirt she wants to be a pirate again for Halloween this year. I should say I am horrible at following a pattern but I am going to start a class in a few weeks to relearn it (they are teaching a basic skirt). Sad thing is I took this same class probably 15 years ago lol.

So I think with the class I should be able to make a corset or am I overestimating myself? How about the peasant shirt or should I just go buy one? I know I can do the tutu because it is no sew. My other question is about fabric she found a skull and rose print by alexander henry and the cheapest I can find it is around 5.00 for 1/2 a yard. Is that reasonable for this fabric? I am going to buy extra of everything so if things work out and we get approved to adopt the little girls we are trying to I can make them the same outfits to match for future P&P parties.

DS also wants to be Jack but I figured hers would be easier than his so I am attempting it first. Plus I can buy a JS costume a lot easier than what she is wanting lol.

Just love this thread...you are all so wonderful and so complementary - OT my DD (37) called today crying uncontrollably because of a rude remark a coworker made about adoptive parents....something along the lines that they don't count, or don't matter....it had to do with a discussion of something in the media between a parent and child (perhaps a star?),,,but she was so upset she couldn't make a lot of sense at the time. She and her DH cannot conceive..and never will...and they adopted a baby boy from Russia who is now 3. God definitely chose Nicholas for them and for our family and he is so loved... I just don't understand what motivates some people. Would love to make those adorable overalls with the safari Mickey for Nicholas. He loves AK!
Susan:love:

Please tell your DD to ignore the idiots! I can understand how she feels, though, since I'm an adoptive mom, too. I even had a family member (by marriage not blood, at least) who commented that I was smart to become a parent "the easy way". I tried to ignore the comment as her ignorance and youth plus hormones since she was pregnant at the time. However, after she'd said it a few times on different occasions I finally explained just some of the things I had to do to qualify to adopt, i.e. a financial check, medical exam, get a background/criminal check, meet with a social worker several times, I have my home visited to make sure it's suitable for a child, etc. I was VERY tempted to tell her that getting knocked up at 18 like she did was a much easier way to become a parent. ;) Of course, as the mature person I am (:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:) I didn't say that... out loud.

Peasant tops are really fairly simple. I'm sure you could do one after a little refresher.

I've seen some A. Henry fabric at JoAnns. I'm not sure which print you're looking for but I saw some that sound like the same. It's still not cheap but a good time to use those 40% off coupons.

Lisa, you said it all! It is really amazing that any of us is able to conceive a child and then actually deliver a healthy baby....when you consider all that can go wrong. Having gone through this with DD and DSIL, it was so eye opening to all of us. Adoption is a leap of faith, and with our Nicholas, he was so sick when he came to the USA. Had he not come here, I am pretty positive his life would not have gone on much longer. Now he looks like a little blonde surfer boy...we will never be able to give to him what he had given to us. He is my heart, and I couldn't love him more had I given birth to him...

:( We do not have a JoAnns anymore. My best friend lives in Dallas and I may have to get her to look around and see what she finds. When we get back home this weekend I am going to hit all of our local fabric stores and see what I can find.

older sister Britt who really liked it too

IMG_0429.jpg

I love those. Great job!

The question is, what do I do for her to let her know how much I appreciate her? I thought about a pedicure for her at WDW while we are there. Is that a good reward, or is it too much, or not enough? I would like to surprise her at WDW, but I don’t know what to do. :confused3 BTW, she is 12 years old. Thanks guys, Cassandra

How about a mom and me spa treatment at the Grand Floridian? Perhaps it could be while the younger two are on pirate cruise? In any case, it sounds like you have a great daughter there!

I've been lurking on this board and have posted a few things that I have bought from other disboard members. After seeing some hand sewn creations, I decided to give it a try. Now I just need to get a sewing machine...these took forever to make!

Here is my first creation. My dd picked out the fabric (it was already pre-shirred)

Her 5th birthday is next week and we're having a party for her this weekend, so I also made her this skirt to match the shirt I had already bought for her.

And here is a hairbow that I made to match the Cinderella outfit that Lori made for us

Susan-I have to chime in here as well. There are truly some ingorant people out there. I am an adoptive mom as well, and when we came home from China, complete strangers would come up to us and ask "how much she cost?' I lost it one day and just said "5.99 a pound" :rotfl2:
I had to say something funny stupid or I was going to lose it.
Its kind of like the same thing when you are pregnant and complete strangers come up and touch your belly.
see,we have been doubly blessed . We tried for 7 years to get pregnant, had medical issues, and decided family can be made more than one way,I just knew my daughter was in China. 2 weeks after we came home with her,I went in for a ultrasound for a fibroid, and the technician said, "do you want to hear the heartbeat??" I said," of what?",she said "of your baby, your 2 1/2 months pregnant" I was in shock, she cried- I cried, dont ask,lol
anyway, adoption made us a family and my other daughter made us a bigger family, lol
but just to show you the ignorance, when people found out I was pregnant, they asked me if I was going to send my daughter back to china??    after that,I just knew anything was possible to come out of somebody's mouth, and the worst thing,it was a family member who said it.

big hugs to you and your family and DD

I didnt mean to hijack the thread-I just had to chime in on this subject,it is very near and dear to my hart

on another note,I love all the outfits posted recently ,Im still trying to figure out how to use my sewing machine and over the weekend my sister eloped and is throwing a celebratory dinner,so my Mom is making my girls outfits to wear. One wants snoopy, the other one wants princess,go figure :-)

I will post pix when she is done, they are going to be casual outfits, its in a pizza/italian restaurant

talk to you all soon
Marcy

Great creations! I'm impressed that you did this by hand!

I love this! The striped pattern as a border looks so perfect! I don't see why she can't wear it at Disney, but it looks like it will get lots of wear either way. So cute! Look I made a thumbprint: first try!

Ok, I decided to put the Epcot top away for a while so I could think and gather everyone's responses. Thanks to everyone who helped.

Here is the animal kingdom outfit for Jacob (thank you Camping Griswalds for the tree):

It seems to be missing something to me. It doesn't say "Disney" to me or even "Animal Kingdom." I'm not really sure what to add. Probably something from the tiger print fabric I used for the shorts, but I'm not sure. Opinions are welcomed (and needed). Thanks again!

Oops Teresa, I just noticed that you got busted! I hope your son has the same sense of humor that you and your sister have! :)
