Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 2

Hi Utah Mama,

Instead of cutting the notches in a triangle outward, I cut them off completly. Then I cut a little line in the pattern where the notch used to be. Now instead of having to match the cut triangles, you just have to match the little cut lines(notches). It looks much better from the inside of the garment, as well as saving time trying to cut the little triangles.

The notches are used to line the fabric up to make sure that your seams will be accurate.

This is a little hint that my MIL taught me a very long time ago. She used to be a garment worker (seamstress) in the union, and that's how all their garments were notched.

I hope this helped.

Marianne
YES, that makes perfect sense. I should get a cloth marking pencil now. Thank you!

Ok girlies. I have to post my pictures we took a few minutes ago, then I need to go back like 6 pages to catch up.

Nope, it wasn't a mod who said to remove them, it was the creater of the outfits who doesn't want her work posted -- and that's her right.

As a moderator, a voluntary position on these boards, I try to make sure folks are playing nice and that the same rules apply to everyone. Which is why I tell folks that they can't have posts selling things here. Now, before folks tell me that no one was trying to sell anything, please note that on other boards the same rules apply and sometimes things get removed because the line between "look at this beautiful outfit I made" and "look at this beautiful out I made don't you want one is very fine.

I hate feeling like the bad guy all the time. Perhaps I can suggest to the folks who make national holidays a "be kind to moderators day?"

Also, remember that before you bash the "bad guy" who cased all this trouble. There are 2 sides to every story and unless we were all there when everything transpired we don't know the whole story. Also, if you've never seen it, please read my friendly reminder thread (which I didn't write, but borrowed from another moderator here on the DIS): http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1512183 If you have read it, please feel free to read it again.

Now that I've said all of that I have to add this: I wish I could make outfits like you guys can -- but even if I could my daughters are getting to old to wear that type of stuff. When did they grow up?

I am glad you posted. The whole issue was unsettling to me. I understand the selling issue. I would hate to read the boards if every other thread was "take a look :surfweb: at this item I am selling on Ebay"

Because she was so vague about why she removed them, I thought there was something scary going on like threats :scared1: or something.

I believe the disboards is a relatively safe place to post photos of my kids in clothes I made and I want it to stay that way. I don't want to be involved in a dispute about clothes someone else bought.

:flower3: :flower3: :flower3: For you Beth:flower3: :flower3: :flower3:

Thank you for clearing that up.

Whew! This was another first for me: sewing without a pattern! I used the instructions for the boutique twirly skirt on Teresa's bookmarks and it came out great. I did use a pattern for the top, but it was simple. Of course, it was too short on my amazon girl so I added a couple of ruffles to the bottom so she's not giving a peep show!

And, DS asked me to make him some matching board shorts! Woo hoo! So, it's back to JoAnn's for me.

Great Job Steph!! I'm glad teh bookmarks couldhelp you out! This is really fantastic!
And of course I HAD to try the pimped out Wally World dresses!!! I bought 2 pink ones and my older DD8 (skinny little thing) is going to wear a size 4t as a halter top w/ black capris. They did not have a 4t red dress so DD8 will wear a twirl skirt in Minnie colors when DD2 wears the red dress.

I do love to dress the girls alike. 2 years and 5 months ago.... it all started with a Gymboree addiction. Quickly moved on to more expensive boutique clothing and finally to customs. Now I am *saving* so much $$$ making my own customs... ha! :lmao:

Cute outfits!!! Really nice job.

I finished my DD AK outfit, or so I thought. I loved the fabric for the top and since she is almost 8 I wanted to not make it Disney, but something she could wear elsewhere. Now that it is done I find myself wanting to put some Mickey heads on or something, but not sure what to do. The shorts are made of a linen material, not just cotton and are pretty themselves as they are. I don't want to ruin it, but can't help but think about how to make it more Disney. Any suggestions??
Need some opinions...

I have an adorable pirate tutu set for DD for Halloween. I want to make her a cool Trick or Treat bag to match, so I bought a black tote at Hobby Lobby, but I can't decide what to put on it.

I thought this was cute, but the hair bothers me a little. (DD is only 3, so not too scary!)

Or I thought this was sort of cute for a ToT bag...booty=candy...pirate: but maybe too "suggestive" for a 3 year old? :confused3 (not to me, but I guess other people might think its weird?)

Or there's this face, too:[/IMG]

Or I'm open to any other suggestions! Thanks!

Since I just got back from a Renaissance Faire, and having heard WAY WAY to many suggestive booty jokes, I would stay away from that one.

Well, here it is, my very first completed sewing outfit. Before this, the only thing I have ever sewn were 2 baby blankets (which were within the past month). I bought my sewing machine because DH was having a heart attack over how much money I was spending on customs for DD. Hopefully, I will get good enough that I won't have to buy many more customs. Any way. .. here it is custom NEMO (DD is the model -- she has half of a POC tattoo on her cheek :confused3). Also, ignore the dirty pool ... I didn't clean it this morning because I have been sewing this outfit.

VERY cute!! Nice job! Your daughter is adorable!!!

Whoohoo!!! I got my Tinkerbell and Pan tees today!!! Both kids are sleeping so no models :sad1: , yet!! I'm working on a tink tutu skirt so when thats done I'll post more pics.

I "requested" the peter pan tee. She doesn't do shirts for boys often so it was her first time doing Pan and Hook.

Front of tee

Tink tee. The back of the tee says Tinkerbell with some "stars"

These turned out really nice!

Yes, those are my kids in the pictures. I did not make any of the outfits. The pictures that I had to remove were of the adorable outfits that "the_seamstress" made for me. She is an awesome person and does FLAWLESS work!!!!!!!!!!! I want to make sure that everyone knows how wonderful she is and that she was NOT the person that I was referring to.

I am not quite sure who is the cause of all this trouble so I just thought that it would be best to remove the pictures and be done with it!!!! I really do love to share pictures of my kids in their boutique outfits but I may have to be more careful in the future!!!!

SORRY!!!!!

Can anyone share what pattern they use for their pillowcase dresses? I looked at the links from teresajoy but the MS one I found only went up to 18 months. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

Thanks Aimee

I stumbled across this thread today, and now I am totally inspired to start a small project. I did see a link for easy to make twirly skirts, now can't seem to find it. Can anybody help direct me to the right location. Thanks. Loving all of these custom designs you are all so talented.
Did you check out the Bookmarks site yet? There are msany different ones there.
I love how-to links :) Maybe it's here

Have Fun!

I will have to see if there are any links I don't have in the bookmarks site.

Okay, saw this material on ebay, and I am NEEDING it. Has anyone ever seen this? I am a huge Disney and Horse fan, I can't believe that I have missed this. Well I'm on a mission. Need this fabric!!! (to sit next to the other fabric I "needed" in my closet!):lmao:
FurDisneyPrincessFlannel003.jpg

I saw it in flannel at Joann's the other day.

Here's Norah wearing her newest home-spun monstrosity. I LOVE the fabric and it does fits perfectly. I haven't decided to make it a crop pant or capris. Maybe the crop since fall is coming. I'll add the raspberry trim at the bottom.

Although in real life she wears a 4T, the size for patterns is 3. This little detail will be helpful.

Today I learned how to use double folded 1/2" bias tape. I learned how to properly put in elastic so it won't twirl up on me.

I learned how to use fusable interfacing. I also did my very first button holes!

May I just add, it was Norah's turn to say family prayers tonight and she thanked God for her "new outfits". I'll remember that when she's a know-it-all teenager!!!

Soooo sorry you cant see the bow in the back! It's looking invisible, but IRL it's fine!

VERY cute!!!! I hope it's not too confusing b/c I want to make something using the same pattern. Now I'm scared! It will be my second attempt at using a pattern. The first did NOT go well.

For those who do skirts with tuille underneath (I believe that's what you call the stuff that makes the skirt poof out a bit); do you have a specific pattern that includes the tulle or do you just cut the tulle the same as the pattern? DD saw a 'froofy' skirt at Macys she loved & I thought I could make one for Halloween. I've got the fabric, I just need to get a pattern & make it.

I just add tulle to skirt patterns I like. The only pattern that specifically asks for it to be added is the one on you can make this dot com

simplicity had a 6 easy skirt pattern that a thin layer of tulle with it, but not sure what the number is and it was an older girls pattern. It was a pleated skirt if I remember.

Your dd is 6 and wont wear that cute dress? Oh NOOOO! It's so cute! I love that print. Perfect for Epcot world showcase! ((Break out the heavy duty bribes!))

I love the applique! Was it hard? Your stitches are perfecto!

I forgot to say that if you make another one using the pattern it will be easier!

The thing I don't like about this pattern is if you are trying to use a fabric that goes in only one direction you have to cut it apart and stitch the fabric together at the shoulders. Otherwise the print on the back of the dress is upside down!

Norah sounds sweet! I really want to teach my kids gratitude and it sounds like you are doing a good job. :teacher:

Wow, I've seen some pretty outfits... I just have to rebuild my count so I can post some too.... I always try to have something special when I go to WDW...

She claims to hate dresses. She will wear the apron style tops. But I wanted to try something else. I think when we are there at the parks she will be okay. We'll see.

The applique is tricky. But practicing pays off! The first one I tried was scrunched up. But once I got the tear away stabilizer it looked much better. It is easier to applique directly on the denim.

I don't have a very fancy machine, so I had to go around the Mickey Head twice. I like the way this one turned out. I have to make another one for DS. I will be sewing all day tomorrow, we leave for our trip on Friday :cool1:

Hi :)
Please, know = I'm not the bad guy either. okay?!
Actually, I have no idea who is.
I totally agree w/ you all! We All Should be able to post pictures of our kids & our creations!
Especially, WITHOUT FEAR of it causing problems elsewhere OR "in our workplace".
"iluv..." and I, did NOT do anything wrong.
She & I are fine, and We'll still make more great outfits together :)!

It's very comfy here, but This IS a public forum.
I don't think it was a regular, that "followed me to work".
WE seem to like & care about each other, here! :)
I appreciate the wonderful compliments! :)
Thank you ALL, very dearly!
For now, I'm focusing on keeping my work and disboard-stuff very separate.
Thanks, again. :)

I'm so sorry she doesnt like dresses right now. I had one like that. Have you thought about getting her some leggings, without feet, or capris to put under the dress and just telling her its a really long top?;) It may all be in how you present it to her, because it's really cute. Good luck and chin up and just remember its a stage shes going through.

We have a 6 day trip in September and I have 8 customs plus a non-custom, boutique outfit. There are a few more I want. ;)

Here is the first skirt I've been able to make. It's for Halloween.

I bought these from a lady on you-know-where. They are to wear to Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Sadly we were unable to get Hoop Dee Doo  So, I am making the best of it by dressing the girls up. The jean dress is just a GAP jumper she jazzed up. I think it needs something but my DD8 will not wear it if it's too frou frou.

I didn't get Hoop dee doo OR "MBYBBQ". You do wonders for a Gap jumper! Both are Very snazzy!

Don't look at the appliqué too closely, it's not perfect! Hey, look we got her ears pierced yesterday. She wanted me to put her hair up in a scrunchie to show them off:

CUTE animal print(s)!!! Love the earrings :cutie: The applique looked great too!

No, I like it just as it is! I would maybe add some zebra to her hair?? Hmmmm?

Was the linen hard to use? Looks comfy and cute!

Animal Kingdom is the most fun to plan for - go crazy with animal prints
image56.jpg

Lori

Hi Lori- You are so good at themes! Very cute! I agree on the animal prints! Go crazy!

Next time you are at Wal-mart get one of those fabric pens (my favorite is blue on one side and purple on the other) and mark the triangles and dots and darts and all of that with the pen instead of cutting it. The pen will either disapear over time or in water and I think it is a lot more accurate than I can get cutting the triangles. Once you've sewn a few things you probably will be able to tell which one's you'll need and which ones you can kinda ignore. I sometimes even just hold the pattern piece up when I need to know where the notches were.

I will, thank you! I did my last little cut out triangles today. Geez, first they're hard to cut perfectly. Then they're off ever so slightly when being matched up. This tip will save me alot of frustration. I am beginning to know the Walmart ladies by name.

For anyone sewing using the red minnie dot, check you local Walmart. I bought a bolt today for only $2.00 a yard. The never have it. They brought it in, for costumes. I also got a cute Disney print with Minnie building a snow man, and Mickey sledding, I think... I will be posting photos this afternoon.

Uh... I saw that today!!! It's pretty nice AND inexpensive. I almost ought some! I told myself "next time". I also saw the Mickey snow print! I like the light blue. That's a keeper!

Cute! We need to see a pic of this.

And just when is the famous UtahMama going to be at WDW in September? Forget the hidden Mickey's, I'll be searching for the Pepsi Queen! :rotfl:

Sept. 22 - Oct. 2. POP Century (we have to get 2 rooms) and our MNSSHP is 9/30 I think. (If you find her, say HI!!!!) :rolleyes1
