Instead of cutting the notches in a triangle outward, I cut them off completly. Then I cut a little line in the pattern where the notch used to be. Now instead of having to match the cut triangles, you just have to match the little cut lines(notches). It looks much better from the inside of the garment, as well as saving time trying to cut the little triangles.
The notches are used to line the fabric up to make sure that your seams will be accurate.
This is a little hint that my MIL taught me a very long time ago. She used to be a garment worker (seamstress) in the union, and that's how all their garments were notched.
