Hi y'all!! I have learned so much from this thread. I've been very inspired. I started collecting fabric last week and have a lot of projects "dreamed up"!!
I wanted to share a pic of the shirts I made for DD and DS for the 4th. I have never appliqued so I did DS' tie with very "open" zig zag. I'm going to start practicing my appliqueing so I can do some of the cute overalls. I also want to try my hand at a patchwork circle skirt!!
:scared1:

They're adorable!

:cheer2: :cheer2: Okay ladies this is my first thing I've ever sewed! I think it turned out okay. It's not perfect by any means but at least it's wearable :rotfl2::lmao: :rotfl2: DD wanted it long. Right now it's not Disney-fied, but if it survives till December I'll add some appliques to it to turn it princessy and maybe make a matching top. So what do you think?

Great job!!! I hope my first skirt looks that good!!

Butterick has Cabbage Patch kids patterns. Joanns often has them on sale for .99/1.99 (not free but close). Butterick 4045 has boys pants/shirts, 3745 has a sports jersey, 5902 has overalls.

Sadly, not on sale now. Still 5.99 for a pattern - and that's more than I want to spend on a pattern for silly doll clothes...

Guess I'll have to be patient and wait for them to go on sale again... (gosh, I'm no good at patience! :rotfl: )

Question for y'all -- I tried playing around with appliqué - my stitches are not very even and I can't figure out what to do to clean them up. I tried to make them even closer together and I ended up with a clump (you can see it on the one side) that almost made a knot that got stuck.
I'm also posting a pic of the back - is this how it's supposed to look? (Used black thread on the top and red thread on the back)

Well ladies, this is my newest outfit. I'm not happy with it at all. I'm not sure why. I don't like the pink edge on the blue part of the skirt. The underskirt, is made of a lightweight gauze, that's off white. The ribbon around the neck is just temporary. The real tie isn't made yet, and I don't know why but I just don't like it... :confused3
Oh well...better luck next time... My dd will wear it for MGM, or I might just ditch it and try again... I hate to waste the fabric though.,...

I think it's adorable! What do you mean ditch it? I agree that a white ruffle would like nice along the bottom of the shirt.

I think the pink makes the skirt fabric pop.

Where did you get the Little Mermaid applique? Sometimes I don't like some of the stuff I make because I know where the mistakes are. But no one else does so don't worry about it. Not that there are any errors in your outfit.

Thanks for sharing the photo!

Beautiful skirt! I love the pink star fabric!princess:

The applique was from Wallyworld, it's a panel that is supposed to be used to make a book. I bought them a while ago, and only made one other outfit using it.

Someone mentioned that the skirt was 3 layers. It's only two. The white part is one, and the mermaid fabric is another.

My DD5 saw this outfit and said "WOW that is really cute". She loves it!!

I think that was me. I was counting the pink edge to the mermaid fabric as the third layer. Sorry -- poor choice of words. Layer does have a one-over-the-other connotation. I should have said "color sections" or "fabrics" or "panels" or something.

Looked At This Often At Wal-mart, The Clerk In The Fabric Dept Did Not Know Anything Specific About It. I Was Wondering How You Put The Different Color Threads In The Machine For The Embrodery (opps ?spelling), Do You Use Several Bobbins At One Time, How Do You Change Threads For All The Different Colors. I Want To Buy This But Need To Understand How This Works. From What I Read From Other Sewing Disers It Sounds Like A Good Machine For The Money. I Want To Buy It Before It Possibly Is Discontinued ( Would Be My Luck!!!!) Thanks For The Advice

You change out the thread color for each different color you want. So you have to kind of babysit the machine. For the bobbin you just use white. I also babysit mine because the second I get up it does something crazy!

I just got this machine and I love it! It pauses in between each color and you switch out the thread. You just use white bobbin thread throughout. It is very easy to switch the thread. The manual shows you very well. I recommend getting it. I got mine on ebay cheaper than at walmart. I'd say check there too. Good luck!

They are precious, as are the outfits. How do you get them to hold hands like that?

My daughter saw this and squealed, "I want that outfit Mommy!" I think it is beautiful too.

I think you did terrific for your first time. My first skirt didn't have any cute ric rac trim! I love that pink sparkly fabric and it can definitely be turned into something Princess or Disney if you want. The hardest part about sewing the outfits is keeping them off my daughter. She already has stained the first one I made her. I will have to hide them until September or just keep making them.

Hi DaisyDuckRN,

I have this machine and I love. It's pretty easy to use, just follow the manual. I would recommend using stabilizer. I bought my thread, stabilizer as well as prewound bobbins from this great little thread store in Gastonia, NC. They have every color imaginable. You can order online, or call and ask to have something shipped. The seem to have sales on a regular basis. The prices are great. Their website is pretty informative. www.longcreekmills.com(

I hope this helped.

:confused3 I know this has been asked a billion times already, but would someone tell me the site that has all of the outfit pictured.
Thanks!!!

Okay, I added this to my quote for some reason, and now I can't remember what it was in reference to. How bad is that? :rotfl:

I was asking for ideas for an outfit for DS1 to match DD's outfit. She is wearing custom princess overalls for DTD and BBB then changing into Cinderella dress for 1900 Park Fare. I was thinking of something like I'll be your prince charming. If you have any ideas that would be great!
