Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 2

Hi y'all!! I have learned so much from this thread. I've been very inspired. I started collecting fabric last week and have a lot of projects "dreamed up"!!
I wanted to share a pic of the shirts I made for DD and DS for the 4th. I have never appliqued so I did DS' tie with very "open" zig zag. I'm going to start practicing my appliqueing so I can do some of the cute overalls. I also want to try my hand at a patchwork circle skirt!!
:scared1:

Too cute! I also love your avatar.

I love everyone's creations, but I especially love sibling wear. I have 5 kiddos and I try to match them up. I am inspired by your inspiration. :)

Shoot. i took pictures of all my outfits, then signed up for photobucket and now my computer says that i can't log on because of cookies or disabled thing or whatever. I now have to wait for the super-genius to get home from work so I can show you what I have made. Duh.

Hi All,

Well I FINALLY have something Dis to show you. I found this cute bow and purchased it for DD 4 the Minnie in the middle lights up.

Thanks everyone for your advice about custom overalls... I'll post pics when I get them done, hopefully by the end of the week!!

Love the bow! I hope DD gets some thicker hair soon so she can wear stuff like that :confused3

Go to Wal-mart or Target and get the little hair rubberbands that are clear. I usually get the middle size. Put your dd's hair up in a ponytail or piggies and then use a bow with an alligator clip and clip it on top of the hair band so it can't slip out! I alway use alligator clips on bow even though my dd5 has more hair than 5 grown women. I buy them at sally's beauty supply for $5 for tons of them.

Well ladies, this is my newest outfit. I'm not happy with it at all. I'm not sure why. I don't like the pink edge on the blue part of the skirt. The underskirt, is made of a lightweight gauze, that's off white. The ribbon around the neck is just temporary. The real tie isn't made yet, and I don't know why but I just don't like it... :confused3
Oh well...better luck next time... My dd will wear it for MGM, or I might just ditch it and try again... I hate to waste the fabric though.,...

I use those in her hair (the clear rubberbands) and they fall out in less than an hour! Do you think that maybe the extra clamp of the alligator clip would hold it in better?

She is going to be a flower girl this Saturday in a wedding, I think I am going to spray her hair with hair spray to try to get it to do something:confused: She has a natural curl at the very bottom of her hair, but I would like her to have somekind of up do :confused3

I'd spray it and get it really big and poofy before you put it in the rubberband. Use aerosol hairspray so it won't get matted. I have been know to really rat it up when I was wanting it to stay in place. Just make her look like a 1960's Miss America before you pull it back. That should help! If you are going to use a curling iron I would make sure there is a little hairspray in it before you curl it and then let it cool off completely before you mess with it.

I don't know if it would help to catch the rubberband in the clip or not. I wonder if it would pull it out. Maybe if you just catch one of the "loops" it would work. Post some pictures of her all dolled up for the wedding!!

Oh yes, it's just awful! You better send it on over to me so I can dispose of it for you! ;) :lmao:

I think it's adorable and so does my daughter! We love all things Ariel!!

I like the pink on the skirt, I thought it looked cute, then went back and looked again after reading. It isn't a typical Mermaid color so maybe that is why, but brings out the castle nicely. I think you are used to different shirts and not using a piece of fabric and that is probably throwing off your judgement. Just my thoughts. I made a Diego pair using a panel and just don't like them, I am used to piecing different things together. Everyone that has seem them has loved them though. I also think you style is more color, more fabrics. I am not sure if I have ever seen you use just one in the top or the bottom. BUT I think it is adorable and either girl would be thrilled with it.

I like it. But, I don't think the top looks finished for some reason. I usually prefer the "plainer" stuff, but since the skirt has three layers it seems like the top needs a little somethin' to make them look even. Maybe a small white ruffle at the bottom of the shirt? Or maybe when you switch it out for the real tie it'll make he difference.

Sorry you're unhappy with it. I think it looks really good -- and the applique is incredible.

Got DS's Goliath tee!!!!! It's to match DD's JoJo outfit.

Here's DD's set

:cheer2: :cheer2: Okay ladies this is my first thing I've ever sewed! I think it turned out okay. It's not perfect by any means but at least it's wearable :rotfl2::lmao: :rotfl2: DD wanted it long. Right now it's not Disney-fied, but if it survives till December I'll add some appliques to it to turn it princessy and maybe make a matching top. So what do you think?

CastleCreations -- once again, another fabulous outfit. What fabric did the Ariel applique come from -- I love it. Or did you piece that one yourself?

Hi Dopeysgirl,

I'm not sure if your questions have been answered, but I use a different method of ruffling without dental floss or a ruffling foot.

With your zig zag pressor foot on your machine, place the piece to be ruffled under the foot, and put the foot down. ( as if you were going to sew)

By hand turn the sewing wheel (that thing on the right side of the machine) just one turn. You should have the bobbin thread poking through the stitch you just made. Pull the bobbin thread out through the fabric. (If doesn't work, try these steps again)

Now you have the bobbin thread and the top sewing thread together pull the two threads.

Pull the threads as long as the piece of fabric to be gathered. If the piece to be gathered is unusually long, you can do this in multi areas. (the easiest place would be to start and stop at the seams)

Set the machine to the largest stitch as well as the widest zig zag stitch that you have.

Use the zig zag stitch on top of the two threads. Sewing all the way to the end of the piece that you want gathered.

Pull the threads slightly while sewing, and your fabric will gather up on its own, you can adjust the amount of gathering when you are finishing your garment.

Seam allowances

Before I had my serger, I used to double stitch my seams. First I would sew the normal seam allowance, and then I would sew another seam 1/4 inch away from the original seam and trim the seams close to the second seam.
This kept the seams from unraveling, and was easier than using the pinking shears.

I hope this helped.
Marianne

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! this sounds a little easier, im gonna give it a try...wish me luck!
