Not sure what got me thinking about this, but could anyone tell me if guests staying at Fort Wilderness get those nifty Keys To The World? I know it obviously can't be used as a room key (considering we're staying in the campground) but do they still dole them out for charging purposes or proof you're staying onsite? Thanks in advance!

You use them to re-enter the campground now that they have a gated re-entry to the left of the guard shack.

yes, you actually need them for the comfort station after midnight
Now, that is what I call VITAL information!!!! :scared1:

A few years ago they began locking the comfort stations from 12:00-6:00 am for the security of the guests. It is just like a hotel room lock where you insert/remove your key quickly.

I'm going to grind here .... please make sure the door closes behind you. I cannot tell you how many times someone leaves the door ajar thinking they are doing someone else a favor who might have forgotten their key (the men especially like to do this ... sorry but it's true). By leaving the door ajar, guests' safety is being compromised.

Of course, an incident had to occur for WDW to begin locking the doors ... we don't like to believe that "bad" people are at WDW, but you do need to take basic precautions.

Please make sure the door closes/locks upon entering/leaving.

End of rant.

I bet it was more of a case of "non-guests" using the facilities than something really bad happening. I could imagine with the opening of Pleasure Island and Disney becoming "almost" a 24-hour a day operation, (and the relative cheapness of Florida Resident Seasonal Passes) that high school or college kids were leaving Pleasure Island, taking a bus to Ft. Wilderness, helping themselves to the showers, then wandering around the public areas of the Fort (or crashing in a hammock on the beach) till transportation opened up again and they could go back to the parks. Thereby avoiding the cost of a hotel room. For the same reason probably is why the bath facilities at the pools at other resorts also require a key card.

CLKelley -- I bet you're right. :thumbsup2 That sounds like a stunt I would have pulled at that age. :rolleyes1
I was starting to get a little concerned since I'm planning to stay in a tent for a couple of nights. All of a sudden, it was sounding less and less like the G-rated Wonderful World of Disney and more and more like the NC17 World of HBO's OZ (showers locked down at night to prevent :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: um, whatever).

Nevertheless, there will be NO door-propping by THIS happy camper. What's more, should I encounter a a previously propped door, it shall be promptly and dutifully un-propped in the interest of my fellow campers' peace of mind. :thumbsup2
