Keurig reason to shun the new VGF resort studios--a rant

Wait are people under the impression that Keurigs use some kind of instant powder that is dissolved inside the K-cup? It's a smaller form factor but it's the same exact coffee grounds that you'd put in a drip brewer.

Hardly.

My objection is that the Keurigs I've had the misfortune to be subjected to (two households of relatives adore the thing and have nothing but) make a max-warm but not truly hot cup of dreck.

My coffee's gotta be so steaming that I can hover over the brew, blissfully inhaling the aroma, as it gradually cools to a drinkable state.

Not that difficult to arrange, I don't think, even if you fly.

You can request an electric kettle from housekeeping and bring the rest, optimally storing it in an Owner's Locker from stay to stay if you'd rather not haul coffee-making equipment back and forth. (Unless, of course, you're as lazy as I tend to be at WDW and prefer not to do anything for self that someone else can do for you.

That's legit, was talking about the people who called it "powder" or not "real" coffee.

Love my travel Keurig. Pots weren't working for us on vacation, because I like my coffee extra strong, and everyone else wanted weak swill. We had to make 2 pots. I forgot it on our trip last week to Universal....I was NOT happy in the mornings!
Been using a Keurig at home since about 2011, and love it. DH got me a French press last year, and I LOVE that coffee. But I pretty much stagger to the pot in the AM, and need it asap. When I have extra time, I'll use the press.
Best coffee ever was my parents'. They had coffee going all day, and until the pot got a hole in it, and they got older, used an old enamel French drip pot. the BEST coffee. And they only drank Community, whatever darkest roast available.

Totally with you on the Gevalia: Majestic Roast. Also Community, French Roast.

That's what my mother used. Had a pot of water boiling on the stove and poured one tablespoon of water over the grounds every few minutes as she fried bacon and eggs. Yes, one tablespoon of water. Her coffee was like syrup, thick and black.

I’m a bit surprised that Disney uses Keurigs in their hotel rooms & now in VGF2 given their attempts to be ’green.’ They took away individual toiletries & gave us huge bottles affixed to the shower walls claiming the little individual bottles weren’t green enough yet they are only providing plastic k-cups for coffee? & no, using a different kind of plastic d/n make those plastic kcups green.

The only green Disney cares about is $$$. Hahaha

On any given WDW day, I’m usually just happy to have something hot and caffeinated in the morning. While tea won’t do it, I’ll suffer through k-cups. Although I’ve attended the occasional snooty-as-all-get-out coffee cupping event…. I’m fine with instant Folgers on a day to day basis, preferably blended with MCT oil and topped with a dash of cinnamon because I’m still fancy.

until seeing a video tour that showed they only have a Keurig "coffee-ruiner."
The folks I know who are Serious Coffee People tend to travel with an aeropress and a grinder. That doesn't solve the temperature problem, but a travel kettle will.

Speaking of Coffee and VGF, what happened to the “free” Nespresso in the lobby? Went to tour the new Villas and they were gone and the DVC representative knew nothing about it. Or am I just imagining they were there a few years back?

Ugh this is my least favorite thing about DVC. People spend $60,000 for a lifetime of vacations in a $900 hotel room and then act like Cousin Eddie to avoid spending $12 on lunch.

That does seem over-the-top (hauling in the kitchen appliances) but I don't think that's your point. Seems like your point is that it seems silly to spend a lot of money on DVC to eat in their rooms.

Part of the reason I like DVC (1 bedroom and above) is the full kitchen. I eat out, but I also like to eat in... less about money and more about quality and convenience. If I can whip up bacon, eggs, and toast for 6 in a few minutes and we can all sit and plan our day in our jammies... that's a win for me. Psychologically, perhaps, it's then a lot easier to justify the expensive of eating dinner someplace that's most likely overpriced.

I have no problem with this. I love the villas, and when I'm not staying DVC my favorite accomodations are the Ft. Wilderness Cabins for the same reasons. As you alluded to, breakfast in particular is SO convenient. And I make way better scrambled eggs than Disney does. My objection is to the people who take their Owner's Locker way over the top and they move into a hotel for five nights like they're going camping in a national park with no water and electricity for two months. I don't care what people do in their own rooms but some of them make the porte cochere areas feel super low-rent.

LOL, at this point, we could probably make most dishes better than Disney does. :)

I do eat out and enjoy someone else cooking (and cleaning up afterward) but mostly I'm there for the atmosphere and entertainment. Give me 50's Prime Time and Hoop any day (last thing I'd want to do is haul a deep fat fryer into my room).

Oh, yeah! Definitely could. Am purely longing for V&A's comeback. Everywhere else there currently is so-so.

Yanno, I can honestly envision taking our little Cuisinart deep fryer to WDW.

I make a mean karaage (Japanese sake, tamari and ginger root-marinated chicken bites). Dip those babies in some Japanese Kewpie-brand mayo, and you've got yummy eats.

I find that Peet's Major Dickason's Blend K-Kups make a very good cup.

I would suspect this is being done because of the lack of the kitchenette sink. Same reason the Tower Studio at Riviera is the only room there w/a Keurig. I doubt they want hot leftover coffee poured down the bathroom sink.

Amen, sister.
I’m sure why this bothers you? A family of 5 can easily spend $150 for lunch and dinner at quick service, which isn’t anything special for the most part. Over seven nights, thats $1000+. Why are they cousin Eddie, who’s a lowlife by the way, for wanting to make their own food in their timeshare?
