Kelly's first day back today...who watched.

Not a Kelly fan, at all.
Kind of detest her.
See RIGHT thru her.

Michael owes her nothing... NOTHING.
He has every right to explore other avenues, within contractual agreements...
Especially if he is not happy being treated the way he has been treated.. Which is just SO obvious, even on the air.
Sometimes, Kelly, it just isn't 'all about you'.

Seeing her this morning, again, making it ALL about her, totally and completely... for the first 30 minutes of the show.
:crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :sad2:

Michael maintained a class act.
I wish him well !

SHE is the one who did not show up for work last week, leaving Michael, while supposedly it was Michael leaving her without any comment or notice.
Yep, that's nice.

PS: YES, I will most definitely comment on her weight, knowing what I know about her serious issues regarding weight and body-image. NOTE: She is the one who brought it up, this morning, that she could still wear her wedding dress. (complete with photos) Again... Kelly, talking and bragging on Kelly.. Wow... what a huge, huge, surprize.

I think everyone who judges any other persons weight as 'too skinny' or 'too fat should' have to post a picture here so we can judge how perfect their body is.

PS Wishing, you seem to have the inside scoop on these people. How so?

Sorry, but I don't think Kelly looks healthy.

And my photo is in my signature.

Edited to add, if you are happy with your body that is what counts and strangers on the internet giving their 2 cents about another's body doesn't matter and quite frankly it would be rude. Being a celebrity doesn't mean you should be disrespected anymore than anyone else. They are human too.

I disagree with the OP and most of the other comments. I think she has every right to be pissed at ABC and feel disrespected. I did believe she was sincere in her opening statement. I think she is cute as a button and I wish I could be that size.

I like Michael as well and think they worked well together. I loved their Halloween shows the most. I have zero interest in GMA, Today or any of those types of news programs. There are a zillion news shows and most are just depressing. No thanks. I want to be entertained when I watch tv.

To each their own.

I don't watch Live! or much daytime to be honest, but I'm in the television industry, so this story has been quite the talk lately as you can imagine. While many don't share my opinion, I am proud of the way she handled this. Although I too have heard some rather interesting stories about her behind the scenes, I think what has transpired over the last week or so is very indicative of a problem in this country many ignore: respect in the workplace, especially towards women. TV, oddly enough, is a prime example of a workplace where women are undervalued and often overlooked by their bosses. Ms. Ripa was not the first to be mistreated by her television bosses. Look no further than Ann Curry, Deborah Norville, or even Barbra Walters (who, ironically enough, found refuge with ABC). It happens even more frequently in local news. Women are consistently treated with less respect and regard than their male equals, and for whoever to intentionally not tell Ms. Ripa (who gets top billing in the show) about this until 20 mins before the news went public is a great sign of disrespect, given how rare host changes are on that program and the unneeded intensity of their search for a replacement. Compound that with not being told about Regis' departure until minutes before they went to air on the day he planned to announce and you see why she is upset. It is endemic of disregard and disrespect for her and her contributions to the show. This is an issue that directly affects her and she should have been informed earlier. It was very unprofessional of ABC, but why should it matter to America if she makes $20 million a year (a gig almost anyone in television would for sure take)? Well, this kind of debacle does plays out on a much smaller scale in offices across the country. Because we often take our cues from the media, when we see a prominent female employee (remember, that is what she is: an employee) disregarded and disrespected by her male bosses, and she doesn't stand up, subconsciously, other women (and men to an extent) see that behavior as okay and acceptable. By making an ordeal out of it and using her lucrative, secure, and fortunate position to make a statement, I think she brought attention to something that otherwise was being ignored.

As for Mr. Strahan, when you're being promoted to Good Morning America, you do have the leverage to make a small demand of informing you cohost in a timely matter. While it's ultimately not his decision to make, he was part of the problem. No, he doesn't owe her anything, but after the lengths to which she went to advocate for him to get that gig, common morality (which really doesn't exist in the TV world) might have guided him down a different path. Regardless, he certainly has a bright future at GMA, but that said, I think that his ceiling (which is still a very, very high one). He's not going to be promoted to anchor alongside Robin Roberts. He is still a personality, not a newscaster and journalist. He does not have the skills or credibility for that, and while they may try to establish him as a journalist, I don't think that would play to his strengths, so we'll see.

I caught that bit about the wedding dress. She was actually a normal size when she got married, so I'm assuming she had the wedding dress taken in to wear it for her 20th.

Thank you for you perspective of someone who works in the industry. What you said defintely makes sense. Seeing that people in the industry ( ie Oprah, Regis) are supporting her actions show that there is defintely more to the story than her " being a baby" and "taking a fit" comments that people have been throwing around on social media.

I bet she did too. I used to watch back in the early days and thought she looked fine. Then I saw a photo of her years later and wondered what happened.

Would people have the nerve here to talk about Kelly's weight if she had gained instead of lost pounds? Sounds like junior high nastiness. But I guess if a woman makes 15 million a year she is supposed to put up with any crap thrown her way.

I want to see what they say this morning about him now leaving mid May instead of September as originally planned.

With that being said, I thought her "return speech" was a little off-putting, as well. She seemed to be taking jabs by saying "this has opened the conversation for workplace communication, ...., and RESPECT!" The whole situation seems a little overblown and ridiculous, anyway. I'm actually confused by it. She's upset with Michael and the producers because Michael decided to make a move to another morning show? Why should he feel bad for moving shows?

Right! The truest thing she said was, "My dad, a bus driver for 30 years, thinks we are all crazy." Sounds like she needs to spend some time with her dad to gain some real world perspective. She's lost the thread, for sure!

I think this is way overblown.

He took a better gig, like many of us do. He was told not to tell so he obliged. She had a hissy fit and says she's entitled to call in sick because she's earned it. :rolleyes2

It's a talk show. You make (as I just read) 15 million a year. Get a grip. There are real problems in this world. This ain't one.

Exactly, funnily enough. We were called to an early meeting last week to tell us that our boss was being promoted. He had quietly been in discussion for a week or so (we found out later.) The meeting lasted 5 minutes and then the move was publicly announced. Guess what, we are all sad because he's a great boss but we all carried on with our work day and showed up the next. Cause guess what? We're professionals and the world doesn't revolve around any one of us.

Kelly acted like a spoiled brat. I think her return was due in part to a lot of the publicity focusing on her brattiness and not being sympathetic- she needed to get back on there and attempt damage control. Her behavior after being told is likely the reason she wasn't told sooner. Those who work closely with her likely weren't surprised.

She was blindsided. ABC was wrong. Even Oprah has said what ABC did was wrong, and that she deserved better.

Kae

And Oprah is some kind of expert? To me she's the ultimate example of someone who used to be so watchable but then forgot she was ultimately a talk show host and not an actual expert on the issues discussed.

I don't watch too often and very rarely have I watched the whole hour.

I like her "okay" - I can't take watching her for a full hour - just the expressions and hand movements - but that is just me. Seems a bit forced/fake.

I saw her speech while I was on break at work. I just don't get why the secrecy. What would have been the big deal had she known.

My theory - and she might not have known (no difference regardless - this was a publicity stunt.

Don't they all need to boost ratings including GMA and the View (I used to love watching the View years ago - can't watch it now. I don't like how they gang up on Candice and Faris ? - I can't even remember their names. I can't watch Rayven Simone (yes you are right - I don't know their names and don't care if I do). I know it's the View - but it seems only the opinion of a few count/are dominated there. Not sure if I am explaining/expressing my thought right lol).

Wait....you mean you didn't take an extended trip to recover from the announcement? :rolleyes1

Probably because of the way she behaved after she found out may be indicative to how she would have reacted if told before. Like Michael's leaving was personal about HER. They do a live TV show in front of an audience, not something rehearsed and can be edited or scenes deleted later without anyone knowing and then aired. They probably feared she would sit on stage and sulk or be angry or bratty and let the cat out of the bag, ruining the deal for Michael & ABC, and then it possibly not going through. Even if they deleted that part from the show, the audience would know and in this social media culture, it would have gotten around before ABC was ready.

It was up to ABC and Michael to publicly release the news of his hiring, not her. This isn't some new concept. When they chose the new James Bond, the studio wanted to announce it, not have it leaked ahead of time by someone else. The same for when the newest models of iPhones are announced, etc. It's not like Kelly works for a different network. This is HER employer who knows her and has dealt with her before.

The very fact that Michael now has to leave in May instead of September, 3 months early, shows how long she holds a grudge. This isn't something she just needed time to come to terms with and then get over and get on with the show.

That's my take on it as well.
