Kelly's first day back today...who watched.

Seeing that people in the industry ( ie Oprah, Regis) are supporting her actions show that there is defintely more to the story than her " being a baby" and "taking a fit" comments that people have been throwing around on social media.

You're using Regis as an example? The same Regis who, himself, didn't tell Kelly till minutes before the he made his own announcement? NOT a good example.

Compound that with not being told about Regis' departure until minutes before they went to air on the day he planned to announce and you see why she is upset

And Oprah is some kind of expert? To me she's the ultimate example of someone who used to be so watchable but then forgot she was ultimately a talk show host and not an actual expert on the issues discussed.
That is the best description of Oprah. Totally nailed it!

::yes:: :thumbsup2

Decades ago, Arsenio Hall talked about how when he had his first talk show, when ever he called up a celeb or a star, the would answer the phone right away or call him back immediately. They invited him to parties, gave him free tickets to events, etc. He thought he had a lot of friends. When his show got canceled, very few people would answer his calls or call him back. He learned who his true friends are. He realized then that he didn't have a lot of friends, he had power & influence. They needed to be nice to him to be invited on his show.

Same with Kelly Ripa.

The fact is, Oprah & Regis no longer have talk shows. Kelly does. If they want to get on her show again in the future to promote something, they have to stay on her good side. We already see how Michael has to leave early. Regis has said a while back when someone asked him when was the last time he spoke to Kelly, it was the day he left the show. She NEVER has called him or talked to him since. (In comparison, he and Kathie Lee talk all the time.)

Sorry, but I don't think Kelly looks healthy.

And my photo is in my signature.

Oh I agree, she has the figure of a young boy. I have read a few stories about how she pushes herself hours a day working out. And she doesn't look healthy, but that seems to what is in "Hollywood."

Probably because of the way she behaved after she found out may be indicative to how she would have reacted if told before. Like Michael's leaving was personal about HER. They do a live TV show in front of an audience, not something rehearsed and can be edited or scenes deleted later without anyone knowing and then aired. They probably feared she would sit on stage and sulk or be angry or bratty and let the cat out of the bag, ruining the deal for Michael & ABC, and then it possibly not going through. Even if they deleted that part from the show, the audience would know and in this social media culture, it would have gotten around before ABC was ready.

It was up to ABC and Michael to publicly release the news of his hiring, not her. This isn't some new concept. When they chose the new James Bond, the studio wanted to announce it, not have it leaked ahead of time by someone else. The same for when the newest models of iPhones are announced, etc. It's not like Kelly works for a different network. This is HER employer who knows her and has dealt with her before.

The very fact that Michael now has to leave in May instead of September, 3 months early, shows how long she holds a grudge. This isn't something she just needed time to come to terms with and then get over and get on with the show.

I can see her letting the news slip - but would she really care he was leaving, do you think? He has been there only a few years and of course will be replaced. Unless they were looking to replace her - still can't figure out what the big deal was in the secrecy (except like you mentioned maybe letting it slip?). I know this is not the first time and it won't be the last time :) - Just thinking out loud. I am sure she "thinks" she must be the whole show.

They kept mum on him leaving early, we are all suppose to forget they said September last week.
They will just start a farewell for him and we aren't smart enough to realize I guess.

Meh, you lost me at commenting on her weight.

OH! Kelly would love to hear people commenting on her weight. She loves being this thin and loves to talk about how much she exercises and what she eats. She will post pictures of herself exercising and she is very proud of keeping up her child-like weight. She is actually obsessed with looking like this.

I really don't follow her, but this doesn't surprise me and seems consistent with some unhealthy weight issues.

The only time I ever watch Kelly's show is when we're up north and it's raining (we only get 2 channels up there, and if it's raining we can't go outside :) ) so I don't see it very often.

I remember being so happy when Regis announced he was leaving, never could stand him.

I liked Michael okay with Kelly, thought they were well suited to each other for the show so I was kind of surprised to see he's moving on.

I wonder who will be the next new co-host.

Yes, I think she cares that he's leaving - in the sense that he wasn't poached from another network. Her own network took a look at her show, didn't think their partnership was so spectacular that they wouldn't dream of breaking that partnership up or changing a thing, but and decided to dismantle it, to take Michael and put him on a different show they own, where they thought he'd shine and do good things for that show instead.

What does that say about Michael and what he thinks of Live? He willingly is leaving a show where he is one of two stars, getting equal airtime, to go be on a show where he will be one of six stars now, and not one of the two head stars.

As for Kelly, her show is uncertain now. The show's success depends on if they can find a good partner for Kelly. It took them months the last time. Kelly can't carry the show on her own. All the great men who did really well and that most people thought she paired up well with, all have successful careers of their own already. They don't NEED Live. And perhaps that's why they did so well with Kelly. They are confident, strong personalities and already a success in their genres. Anderson Cooper has his own show on CNN and is also on 60 Minutes now. Neil Patrick Harris got a Tony Award last year for being on Broadway. Josh Groben is a fantastic singer.

That early morning venue is hard to fill. While the rest of us minions are used to getting up and going to work 5 days a week at 9am, TV stars find that unappealing, a grind. :snooty: So they have to find someone, not very successful already or so well known he out-shines Kelly. And it has to be someone who has has chemistry on TV with her and is willing to let her be the top dog. And it probably is going to have to be someone who can stand her off-stage too, and is willing to stay a lot longer than Michael did. :duck:

If they can't find someone compatible, her show's ratings will go down. It may also go down while they are trying to find someone. That might get the show canceled. That all affects her. Instead of being able to go on summer hiatus and relax, she may be worried about the future of the show. So, yeah, she cares.

Wow, some of you are like a mama bear on any threads regarding people being overweight or obese but it's gloves off for someone of Kelly's size. Shameful women treat each other like that.

I feel the corporate world is a man's world because they have each other's backs. Until women stop behaving so catting to one another, including body shaming, we will continue to sit on the low end of the totem pole of life.

I just DO NOT want her husband to be the co-host...it's painful watching him be on the show at all. The most rumblings are about Anderson Cooper being tapped to replace Michael.

Definitely see your point! Thank you!

Bet you would be enraged if people were poking fun at her for being overweight.

If she talked constantly how she loved being fat, and ate just to be fat, and took pictures of her fat proudly bragging about her fat? NO. I would not be enraged at all.

It is what it is.

Kelly loves to look sickly skinny. She doesn't drop little hints about it. She comes right out and talks about her food and exercise all of the time. I am not being catty. I am telling you that she would be happy if she heard someone talking about how skinny she was. She thrives off of looking like this. It's what she is going for.

So what if she thrives off looking like she does? She is in front of the camera. No different than any other actress. You don't think overweight or obese people are automatically unhealthy but you rain hard on her weight. Look at her arms. There are some sweet muscles in there. Sickly people do not have the strength to work out like she does. Go look online and see what an anorexic looks like.

MEOW.

I don't know many men that constantly talk about their bodies looking for attention. I don't know many men that wear plunging necklines for the sole purpose of showing off their boney chests, all the while going on and on about how they maintain that look.

Until certain women stop throwing their bodies out there by talking about them all of the time, those women will sit on the low end of the totem pole. I know I don't sit at the low end of ANY totem pole. And the women I surround myself don't either.

But, let's face it, Kelly is not sitting at the end of anything either. She is highly successful. So what she is doing must be working!

Although, I don't think many people find her as likeable as Michael. I have a feeling she is scared that the show will not make it without him.

Anorexic? I didn't say that:confused3

That's a heck of a lot of vitriol you have built up inside for someone you've never met.

I'm thinking I'm seeing some vitriol in bold...but who knows. :scratchin

Did you know that anorexics come in all shapes and sizes? Not all anorexics look skeletal. Anorexia is defined by having a disordered relationship with food. Anorexics can be of the "restrictive" type (where they eat very little) OR of the type where they exercise to extremes or feel a compulsion to exercise to compensate for every single bite they eat. I'm not a doctor, and I don't know Kelly personally, but someone as OBSESSED with exercise as she appears to be, and feels a constant need to tell us all about it, does not have a healthy relationship with exercise or food. Something's not right there.
