With the new banking rule in mind, if you booked a lengthy reservation for a period between your banking deadline and the end of you UY and then after the banking deadline, but within the remaining four months of your UY. you found out you could not go. If you could not “rent” those weeks would you hold on to the reservation “just in case” you, a family member or a friend may be able to salvage a day or two or would you cancel, loose all the points  but make space available for other guest?

I think this is a personal question each person will answer differently. As for me, I would hold onto the reservation, as long as there was hope that it might be able to be used....if it turns out no one can use it, I would cancel it and hopefully free up the room to someone that can actually use it. It would also help if someone comes along after the reservation and you can get them a room with the "holding" points.

But I am sure there are some people out there that would say, if I can't use it, then no one can!

DH and I have agreed. We will cancel and try to go in the remaining months. We do not like that 4 month period at all!! We have a family trip using over 200 points within that time period for November.

I would most likely hold on to it until I know for sure that no one can use it. I would check to make sure that I cannot just reschedule my trip. I would do everything possible to go on the trip even if I have to go for less time.

However, if I knew for sure I couldn't use it then at that time I would definitely cancel it even if I have to lose my points. I know that someone would appreciate that.

I agree, don't cancel until you have other plans ironed out and reservations to book at the same time that are available.
