Kali River Rapids... worth being soaked?

For our family, a trip to ak is not complete without doing kali. we plan to do it the last thing before we leave. we get soaked and walk to the busstop. it is worth it to our family.

When we go to AK we wear bathing suits with clothes made out of quick drying fabric over them ( I've found board shorts and tank tops work well) . i wear my Tevas , and leave my sneakers for another day- you can't take your shoes off any more. There is a bin in the center with a fairly water tight lid for you to put things during the ride, but we have always gotten completely soaked whenever we have ridden Kali River Rapids- I'm talking someone threw you in a swimming pool soaked! I cooler weather I would do ponchos and bring a change of shoes if you don't want to walk around in wet clothes

If it's cool outside, I would advise not to go. You'll be miserable the rest of the day. You get wet, no matter what, but if you go down backwards on the hill, which I always do, you get soaked. When I say soaked, I mean it's like you jumped in a pool. If it's warm enough outside where it would feel good to get wet, go for it! My advice is to put some flip flops in a bag (always wear a backpack) and put them on before you get on. I always wear sneakers to the parks. Wet socks are not good!

We've done it in December and January. My husband and kids bring a change of clothing. I wear a poncho and sit on the part that hangs down. I don't have a problem with getting too wet. I think it is worth it. Debby

Unless you have no oppurtunity to ride another river rapid ride, skip it.
We were so disappointed , especially after the great water rides at Universal.We had skipped it before because we had heard how short it was, but decided to give it a try.

We had a fast pass, thankfully, I would never stand in line for that one..! It is unbelievably short! We did get wet, but were wearing tevas and fast drying clothes., so that wasn't a problem.

Thank goodness we don't go to AK for the thrill rides.

We bought just cheap plastic ponchos that were worth only about $1 before we went and used them only for Kali River Rapids.

Needless to say we were the only people who had them on--people looked at us like we were crazy and the biggest 'nerds'(looking us up and down like we were committing the biggest fashion faux pas of the century) but after the ride when we were exiting and going to throw our "cheap Ponchos/fashion eyesores" in the garbage, everyone still waiting in line to ride were asking if they could have them!
I guess after others saw how soaked people were getting off, we weren't such a bunch of "nerds" after all!

I tease people for wearing ponchos but i do it all in fun and know going into ride I may get soaked, it's usually not me until 2nd or 3rd trip around.
I actually prefer Thunder Canyon( cedar Point) or white water rampage (six flags great america in Il) over kali rapids.

I'm not a fan of wet rides at theme parks like this. I love them at water parks.. but not in my clothes. I ALWAYS avoid the wet rides at our local Six Flags... always.
I have rode Kali River rapids one time on a far distant trip.. and haven't since. I wanted to be able to say I rode it but not interested in doing it again. I do NOT like being wet when I'm not in a swimming suit. And it's not just the clothes but dealing with wet shoes, wet hair, etc. Sorry... I don't have the hair for that. Not that it's perfectly coiffed at Disney World but it gets frizzy if not blow dried then straightened with hot iron... after wet and air dried... well it's not pretty. That's all I'm saying. LOL

I think it's fun. It's not an amazing ride, but it's fun. There is fantastic theming in the queue area. The ride itself I think is landscaped well. No, it's not at all scary, but because not everyone gets soaked like in most water rides, you seem to form a bit of cameraderie with the other people in your boat.
Yes, there is a waterproof bin in the middle of the boat for your gear. If you wear a poncho, you'll stay mostly dry. We plan to go again on our next trip. Rode it twice last trip. (The second time partially because we didn't get wet at all on the first time!)

So THUMBS UP to Kali. I am not a big scary ride fan - this is right up my alley. AK gets HOT in the summertime. This is a fun way to cool down.

Even on the hottest day...KALI aint worth the wait. I think it's one of WDW biggest disapointments!

You don't get soaked but wet is better. I like scenery at the forest fire. I dindn't like it much. There is a ride here at cincinnati at Paramount's Kings Island called White Water Canyon where you get not soaked but drenched!!!!!!!!!!!! Crazy ain't it?

One of my past techniques has been to bring a plastic trash bag along to sit down on -- the seats are usually wet.

A poncho will protect you. That's what I did last week.

As the sign states "You will get wet, you may get soaked".

I'm in the "It's OK, but really not worth standing in line for" group. It is a VERY short ride with only one real drop. Lots of times when we're on, we often hear first timers say at the end "'That's it"??
Yep. That's it.
The "fun" part is watching which way the raft will turn and seeing who gets really wet.
THis ride could have been (and should have been ) much longer. I read that WDW was in some sort of $$$ saving mode when it was built. Now, it's too late. They could have really had something with this ride---
Should add that for us, getting wet is part of the fun on any water ride. We don't take any special measures NOT to get wet!!!

November can be hot in Florida.

Kali RR has, IMHO, the best themed waiting line of any ride. The ride itself is good, but disappointingly short.

There is about a 1 in 4 chance that you will get completely soaked. There is a 100% chance that you will get a little wet.

My suggestion: bring a change of clothes and rent a locker near the entrance.
