Kali River Rapids... worth being soaked?

We are going in November when it shouldn't be too hot and I have never really liked walking around in my wet clothes. I know I can store clothes in a locker and change, but that requires some time to walk all the way back. I don't want to miss anything special though, so I guess my question is, is Kali River Rapids just the same as other white-water raft rides, or is there something special about it because it's Disney?

Dont hesitate to bring out your ponchos for this ride!! We were there in July last year, and planned a time to get soaked, but, we didnt hardly get wet at all!! So we had to ride it AGAIN!! We did get drenched (as opposed to SOAKED!!) and you're right it can be very uncomfortable!! I had sandles on, not shoes... you're feet will get soaked!!

So be prepared, you can keep your feet up on a bar, you can place all your valuables in the middle under a waterproof thingamajig, and you can wear a poncho!!

Also for the theming, I've ridden the River Rapids at 6 Flags, and the Disney one did have a bit more theming, there was the hot fire area before the clff... but it wasnt as memorable as other theming areas!!

I haven't done this ride the past 3 times I was at AK - for the same reason you are concerned about. I would like to ride it just so I can actually say I have ridden it. So would a change of clothes be the best thing? Or ponchos?

I will hopefully going again in Oct and then again in Dec so I would like to try it. Just want others opinions.

I don't know why we avoided it on our previous trips, but we finally did Kali on our trip in May. It was a blast! We were rather soaked when we got off though so that's definitely something to take into consideration. DD4 and DN7 loved it!

My opinion is that no, it isn't worth it. The only reason to go on this ride is if you are hot and want to get wet, because there is certainly nothing great about the ride itself.
I suppose if you have never been on a ride of this type, it might be worth trying. But we found it to be a huge disappointment. It is so short and only has one real drop.

We really liked this ride and a few years ago rode it four times straight in the rain.

You can plan to do it right before you leave the park and go back to your hotel for lunch.

I think we'll plan to take a change of shorts or the boys will wear their bathing suits. Definetly take your shoes off!

It is very uncomfortable to walk around in wet shorts. I speak from experience on that!

I think it is worth missing if you are bothered about getting wet on a colder day, you can get very wet and take a good while to dry off even during a hot day because of the first drop.

Compared to most raft rides this one is pretty poor with just one main splash feature - the big drop near the beginning of the ride. It is also quite short for this type of ride, the theming is pretty good though.

Not classic Disney IMHO, spend your time taking another ride on Dinosaur or watching a ITTBAB again if I were you!

We skipped it the last two trips. Once it was too cold and they other time, we just did not want to get soaked. If you do not want to get soaked, I would skip it.

I remember when it first opened you were allowed to take off your shoes and socks and put them in the middle to avoid them getting wet and putting them back on when you got off the ride.....But the last 2 years I went you weren't allowed to do that probably for safety reasons. But it helped not having my sneakers soaked all day!

We went to the first week of December last year and it was warm. Actually, we were glad to get wet. Thank goodness I packed shorts, I wouldn't want to walk around in wet jeans but the short dried pretty quick.

I would skip it, as a matter of fact I plan to skip it on my December trip. I have been on it twice and am not hesitant to miss it.

I think I read somewhere that Disney can control how wet you get and they let you get wetter in warmer weather. Also it appears to be luck of the draw, my DD was recently on it with 3 friends, 2 were soaked, 2 were not.

My DD purchased ponchos at a Dollar Store and said they kept them fairly dry, they did not want to carry wet ponchos around so they gave them to people in line. I think the ponchos were 2 for a dollar.

You could always wait and see how the weather is........

I'm not a huge fan of Kali Rapids. It is a long trek back to get on the ride and the ride is very short with only one bigger drop. And it all depends on how the raft comes down as to whether or not your side will be the one to get drenched. And of course you have the people on the bridge shooting water at you that is bound to get you soaked but I don't find that thrilling. I think its one that can be skipped unless you have never rode a raft ride of this type.

:thewave: Get ready for a wave of water to wash over you. I have video of my kids and DH wringing Large amounts of water from their socks after this ride. If you get wet you can bet it will be very wet. There wasn't a dry spot left on My DD8 DS2 & DD4. On my next trip my DD8 wants to ride it again so we will ride it before leaving for BB for the afternoon with bathing suits under clothes!!!!

We loved the ride although we wish it had been longer!
We bought just cheap plastic ponchos that were worth only about $1 before we went and used them only for Kali River Rapids.
Not everyone gets soaked, it all depends on where you sit and how the ride vehicle turns---on our ride we got wet but two little girls in our vehicle with their family got absolutely drenched, the parents were wringing the water out of their clothes afterwards--poor little things, they were so cold
Needless to say we were the only people who had them on--people looked at us like we were crazy and the biggest 'nerds'(looking us up and down like we were committing the biggest fashion faux pas of the century) but after the ride when we were exiting and going to throw our "cheap Ponchos/fashion eyesores" in the garbage, everyone still waiting in line to ride were asking if they could have them!
I guess after others saw how soaked people were getting off, we weren't such a bunch of "nerds" after all!

I wear a poncho and change my sneakers for sandels or water shoes and stow my sneakers and socks in the watertite storage bin in the center of the raft. You will still get wet but this way it should be managable and you will not have to carry a change of clothing for everyone.

So they do have a waterproof thingamajig on this attraction? That's great and just what I wanted to hear! I was worried about what to do with my camera while on this attraction-the idea of a locker for just that would be too much of a hassle. Thanks for the info!
