Justin Timberlake- acting like a celeb on Dumbo

First of all, if Justin Timberlake were to walk around Disney World, unescorted - the mayhem that would ensue would be very dangerous. Both to himself, and the people that would be causing the commotion.

Disney has a responsibility to look out for the safety of its guests, and one of the things that needs to be done is to ensure that when a celebrity is around, that they are escorted. It's NOT just for the celebrity. It's for YOUR own protection as well.

Furthermore, I really don't think that you folks grasp just how quickly that innocent little act could have turned nasty for Justin. Do you know the length that the Paparazzi will go to in order to get photos? It is most DEFINITELY not beneath them to disguise themselves with a family, take a picture, or video in this instance, and then sell it - and lie about their intentions during the entire process.

As Chuck said - you can't understand his situation until you've walked a mile in his shoes.

I absolutely agree with SnackyStacky and Chuck. Even though Justin is a celebrity, he's also a real person who deserves a vacation without people climbing all over him once in a while. Can you even imagine how tiresome that must get? And for those who say, "Well, no one *forced* him to be a celebrity so he has no right to complain" -- don't YOU ever get sick of YOUR job? Don't you ever go home and whine about your day/coworkers/office atmosphere? No one's forcing you to work the job you do. Being a musician/celebrity is simply Justin's job, and like every other human, he has the right to take a break from that once in a blue moon.

And shame on all of you who are judging him as person based on this one incident. It must be nice to be so perfect that none of you ever have a bad day and act like a brat.

You know what...I understand we all have bad days, but he could have handled it better. In fact, he could have had a security guard handle it.
I'll bet there were some little Justin fans there, and if they saw that display, they may not like him now.

Other celebs have been in the parks and had guests approach them (sooner or later this WILL happen) and I had the pleasure of witnessing several of them being quite curteous to the fans while keeping the moment brief (and un-noticed by the crowds around them).

Yes, I think they all deserve to be able to enjoy their vacations; but I think those who "admire from a distance" can simply be ignored rather than create a bigger public situation.

Fans have been "programmed" to swoon over celebrities and it's not surprising for them to get excited about a "live encounter".

Just my two cents :smooth:

Celebs are funny. DD and DS high school band performed at Sugar Bowl in New Orleans this year - Jessica Simpson was the singer of the National Anthem. Our kids performed on the field (with a cast of 2900 other students) for pre-game and half-time show. When we were having rehearsal in Superdome, Jessica came in to rehearse her part. Before she even got into the building, they were announcing over the loudspeaker, "The entertainment is entering the building. Do not approach the entertainment. Do not photograph the entertainment. Do not approach the entertainment. The entertainment will not be giving autographs. Do not approach the entertainment."

Guess they didn't want us to approach the entertainment? We (chaperones) were all LOL in stands and commenting that we thought our children were the entertainment!

After saying all of that, there were people who took pics from afar with zoom lenses and video cameras and the "entertainment" was perfectly pleasant as far as I could tell - had her cute husband with her. She had to stop and start several times during rehearsal to try and get it right - she apologized to the kids who were all standing on the field for taking so long.

Yes, he deserves a vacation, just like the rest of us. However, it sounds like the man filming it was doing nothing wrong. Especially if it was from a distance. Justin should worry more about when the day will come that nobody notices him or cares enough to actually film him. Then he'll wish those fans were still around. Personally I don't care enough about him to want to take his picture or his girlfriends. He should be happy not everybody feels like I do! :teeth: If I made 55 million a year and had a bad day, something tells me I wouldn't feel like I do now when I have a bad day!!!!

Yes, as an accountant, I have had bad days at work and get sick of my job, however, I wouldn't dare throw a tantrum about it in public. I vent in private. I also would never scream at one of my clients if they asked me for financial advice while I was at WDW. I would still act professional and politely ask them to drop the business talk because I was on vacation. Timberlake showed disrespect to his "clients", as far as I'm concerned. His fans are his clients. He's too old to be a "brat".

I love Justin Timberlake:D

No, that doesn't make up for how rude he is....but I don't know him personally so I won't comment, but I LOVE his dancing:D

I feel no shame whatsoever! For me it's a bunch of things he's pulled and this one just takes the cake.

The poor old guy did NOTHING wrong! No one was 'climbing all over him"!!!!!!!

He thought to videotape him while waiting in the Dumbo line from 50 feet away!!!!! Come on!

He handled it wrong.

I do have sympathy for celebs who are trying to vacation or eat and are being harrassed, hassled for a photo together or an autograph BUT this guy was 50 feet away!

I agree. I used to teach in the small community where I lived. I could not go anywhere without running into one of my students or his/her family. I remember one time I was eating at Denny's with some friends and one of my student's mother approached me about her daughter's Spelling test that we had on Friday. I still had to be professional, even if I was bothered. Should I have screamed at her for disturbing my lunch? Does being a celebrity give Justin the right to be a jerk? I don't think so.

I don't care for Justin Timberlake. I probably wouldn;t have recognized him if was on that Dumbo line! But I think he acted like a jerk. It's okay for him to get infamous for pulling a "wardrobe malfunction" but a vacationing family better not get him on his camcorder. If he or any other celebs read this, my advice is open your own amusement park so the rest of us won't be inconvenienced.

Is this the way a FORMER Mousketeer should act? At all places no less - Walt Disney World!!!!! I should think not!!!! We drove hours in the late 90's for my DD to see NSYNC and spent lots of money on their merchandise and albums so that he could go to the front of the line at Dumbo!!! Sure he deserves his privacy, but could handle it alot differently. BTW when other guests film their children flying around on Dumbo aren't they filming other people and their children too??!!! Should WE get upset because we're being filmed without our permission???? Sorry, got carried away. I'm done now.

Why didnt Jon BonJovi and his family have escorts? At least none that were highly visible? 4 years ago we saw him and his family meandering around the kingdom. We did not know it was him until he took his sunglasses off and rubbed his eyes. And it was him, I am a jersey girl and I know my BonJovi! ;) And really they chose this life! They eat go to the bathroom put their clothes on the same as us, they are not some special gods or goddess's! He just did not act appropriatly! Even it was papparazi was he doing something that was wrong? That he should be ashamed of? (except not waiting his turn!) There are stars out there that are trully classy and know how to conduct themselves and blend right in with everyone else! He and his friends could have bought the park out also! Eddie Murphy does it all the time!

;) ;) :D

Okay we all have bad days. I am sure that Justin's reaction was just the result of his frustration with being mobbed. Justin is really a very very very nice guy. So sorry that he took his bad mood out on an innocent bystander. That is NOT characteristic of him at all.

I worked closely with a female celebrity a few years ago and remember something she said about being a celeb... "Being famous is great until you just want to go to Wal-Mart".

The price of fame is a huge one - I agree with the posters about walking in someone's shoes for a mile. It is the truth. Don't criticize something you know nothing about.

Rudeness is never acceptable and I'm not trying to condone it BUT all of us "lose our temper" at some point.

I don't condone his behavior in this particular incident. He was drawing attention to himself, therefore he should expect to be filmed and photographed. From your statements I gather you feel anyone in the public eye is less deserving of normal life than the rest of us. Celebrities are known for their talents and abilities. They are also real people with real lives. They deserve the right to a normal, relaxing vacation like anyone else.

And I, as a real person ( I think) am not being escorted to the front of the line in front of those waiting. I am also not going to tell someone that they can not take my picture, they are in public and it is their choice if they wish to take my picture. They do deserve to relax also, but they must expect their picture to be taken and that people will gawk at them. I am quite sure that if treated like normal and not admitted to a club or restaurant, he would be the first to state, "don't you know who I am?". I recall several articles in papers, unknown if true or not, that he has tried in the past to get out of paying bills in clubs by exchanging tickets, or autographs and using his celebrity status.

Give me a break... I have no sympathy for Justin and feel no shame. I'm quite sure there was a less obvious approach to Justin riding Dumbo. Of course he needs security, he is famous, but it sounds way over done in this case. Has he never heard of a baseball hat and sunglasses? And what "real person" travels around with four bodyguards and personal park escorts. Again, give me a break. -- Seems to me he needs to learn the meaning of the term "blending in."

Lisa :earsboy:

While I don't excuse Mr. Timberlake's rude behavior...also try living a day as a celebrity. I have a friend that is a celebrity, and he can't go anywhere without having to be "on guard" for stalkers or photographers. It is very hard for big names to live their real, daily lives and enjoy public areas like amusement parks, etc.

I did live like a celebrity for a week. It's a long story but I'll just tell a little. several years ago I won a major nationwide contest through VH1. I had to do interviews I had a publicist that was catering to my every whim. I did a comercial and several photo shoots. I even had some people wanting to take a picture of me with them. I can tell you that it was great. I had the star treatment and I loved it. The hardest part was when the week was over I had to go back to reality and back to my 9 to 5 job that I hated and back to being a regular guy. Even though I knew it wasn't real, I got caught up in all the attention.

So Mr. Timberlake if you ever want to trade places. This 40 year old from Staten Island, New York will do it in a heartbeat. Grow up and realize that there are guys your age who are in Irag right now dying for our freedom.

I think he should have chosen another "less crowded" time to go visit the parks if he wanted more privacy. I mean really, the middle of summer?! Your asking for it!

Granted, I do understand that he does want and should have fans/public respecting him while on vacation.

The "DUMBO" ride seems quite appropriate for this egomaniac. Now let the flares begin.

:D The one pressing question that jumps into my mind...why are JT and CD jumping in front of all those children that the Dumbo ride is really for???? It's not like Dumbo is a greatt thrill ride for adults but for young children it is probably the most popular ride in WDW and that they were cutting in front of these young children is unbelievable to me.

Just another opinion!!!:D

I recall several articles in papers, unknown if true or not, that he has tried in the past to get out of paying bills in clubs by exchanging tickets, or autographs and using his celebrity status.

This is sooooo true. I have read this many times myself.

I agree with the poster who mentioned the baseball cap and sunglasses. Thats all it would have taken (less body guards and CM's) to blend right in. People might have whispered "hey, I wonder if thats J.T.? But nothing would have ever came of it because no one is going to just approach someone they are not sure of - and if they did, he could still deny it. Your eyes are your determining factor - as long as they were covered they could have pulled this off.......of course.....they would have had to suffer through the wait of the line like the rest of us.........which they obviously didn't want to do. So in mu opinion - by making that choice to be 'better' than all of us, they are no longer on the 'real people' level and therefore should not be treated like 'real people'. Getting his photo taken was part of what he asked for.

Seems like he only wants to be a celeb when it's convenient for him.
