Justin Timberlake- acting like a celeb on Dumbo

I love how this thread has taken one questionable incident of bad behavior and totally used it to trash a celebrity. How many of us witnessed this incident? Now, if the gentlemen was truly 50 feet away from them, quietly taking a picture, that is one thing. But 50 feet is wider than the average front yard. It is a good distance in a crowded park, isn't it? Can't folks lose their children in a far smaller space? Would the photgrapher have been able to get a clear shot of the celeb, considering the crowd at WDW? Would JT have even noticed someone that far away pointing a video cam?

But instead all the posters are ready to jump to the conclusion that yes, this tourist WAS 50 feet away on a crowded day at the MK, able to photograph, able to get a clear picture, and that JT WAS able, in turn, to see see the guy through the crowd and easily walk up to him and approach him to yell at him. All of this in full view of Disney security CMs?

How ready are we as a society to jump onto the celeb trashing bandwagon, and how sad is that?

This past Sunday, as my wife and daughter were getting off of Dumbo, I noticed several Disney staff running around all giddy. When I asked what was up, they pointed out that Justin Timberlake and Camron Diaz were going to be riding Dumbo shortly. Sure enough there they were with several Disney staff standing around with a couple of large body guards.

If this is a true story, sounds like Disney staff did not do a great job of keeping Justin's ride a secret. They really should not have told you that information. It's one thing to notice he is there, but to have Disney's own staff basically announce his arrival is pretty bad.

Okay, can somebody explain to me why it would be so important to him to ride the Dumbo ride? Space Mountain I could understand. Rock'n'Roller Coaster I could understand but Dumbo?!?! Come on! That is a ride for the little kids. No offense meant but little kids like that ride and while there are plenty of rides that little ones can do at Magic Kingdom there is no need to two adults to cut in line to ride Dumbo! Good grief! It just seems a little odd that they would risk all the attn. to get on Dumbo!

Well said, Chuck!

And shame on all of you who are judging him as person based on this one incident. It must be nice to be so perfect that none of you ever have a bad day and act like a brat.

Outstanding, Beautiful

It makes me smile when people get judged because they judged others.

And how sad is it that you seem to think that being a celebrity makes you infallible. Reality check - he's not the Pope, he's a member of a has been boy band. Good for him that he's found success. Too bad for him that he thinks cutting in line in front of pre-schoolers is acceptable behavior. Nevermind whether the original incident mentioned here was out of line or not - cutting the line is deplorable.

FYI... I have seen Kelly Ripa wandering the parks with her husband and kids and no body guards. I also saw them at Marrakesh one night. People approached them at the end of their meal, and the two were more than gracious. I've also met John Travolta (arguably a bigger "star" than Justin Timberlake), and he too was gracious and accomodating to those who approached him. Personally I think it's a difference in the level of maturity. And yes, if a celebrity wants anonymity he or she can head someplace other than WDW in the middle of the Summer. Richard Branson has a gorgeous island in the Caribbean that goes for $40k/night. I'm sure that Mr. Timberlake and Ms. Diaz could comb their sofas and come up with the fee in small change.

I don't know if anyone else said this but honestly, to the person asking me to walk in Timberlakes shoes for a mile, I bet that'd be the most comfortable mile i'd ever walk...his shoes have got to be more comfortable than my 99 cent sandals from walmart

Just a thought.

I think the reason so many people seem upset by this incident is that Justin used his celebrity status to get what he wanted, but was then upset when all the extra attention caused people to take notice. It was unrealistic to think that he could go walking through a crowded park surrounded by park security and his own bodyguards then get in front of a line of people and nobody would notice. Celebrities seek publicity all the time, because without it they wouldn’t be celebrities. I understand that they also like down time to just be a person on vacation. What Justin and Camron did called attention to them and they got that attention from a man who could probably care less about them but was trying to do something nice for his daughter. There are ways for celebrities to vacation like the rest of us and not call attention to themselves if that is what they really wanted to do. You can’t have it both ways. You could put me in a room full of celebrities and unless they were surrounded by “their people” and acting like they were some how more special than everyone else in the room I wouldn’t notice who they were.

::yes:: Well said. It's what I wanted to say, but couldn't do as eloquently.

Tell me where I said JT is infallible? He is human, and is subject to all that goes with it, just as you & I. Nor am I a fan of either JT or Ms. Diaz, I'm not even a fan of my celeb friend. I have been to ONE and only ONE of his concerts. Nor did I say the confrontation, if it took place as reported, was proper behavior. But again, look at the facts as stated by the OP. 50 feet away, a crowded park, with attending security, bodyguards, and CMs...yep I'll bet the guy was getting clear photo shots that far away thrugh all those people, and that JT could easily see him, simply walk over, and confront him...that doesn't seem odd to anyone?

As far as adults riding Dumbo...my goodness, I didn't realize there was a "Kids Only" sign in front of it. Perhaps the ride holds special memories for either JT or Ms. Diaz from their childhood years, and it is a tradition for one of them to ride it on every trip to a Disney park. Perhaps they simply LIKE the ride. So it is OK for celebs to bypass lines, with the knowledge and consent of Disney security and CMs, as long as it isn't Dumbo? Perhaps Disney should simply shut down the parks one day a month to all regular ticket holders and then have it open only for celebs and their parties at a premium price...oh, my, what complaints would we hear then? Or how about closing the parks several hours early and doing a celeb only e-night...no complaints about that?

But no, instead you choose to complain about WHICH RIDES they want to ride upon and the fact that it delayed someone for about 10 minutes. Line cutting may be "deplorable" to you, but it happens every day in every Disney park by escorted VIP/celeb guests and it is done for the security of the celeb/VIP, just most of the time we don't know about it because they use an alternative or "back entrance" to an attraction. No way to hide one for Dumbo.

Celeb's and other high profile folks buy out amusements parks often. Eddie Murphy has done it a handfull of times at great adventure. On one occasion it was Mr.Murphy and 300 of his friends and family! It is just how you conduct yourself if you want to blend in and be like everyone else then act like everyone else! Kevin Costner owns world champion cutting horses, I had met him in columbus ohio at a huge horse show called the quarter horse congress. He was just like every other person there he was not looking for special treatment. He actually asked to ride one of my western pleasure horses! Being a part of the quarter horse world all my life I have run into and seen many celeb's. Or high profile people The Petty family are extremely nice. Terry Bradshaw stands on the rail cheering his daughter on. And I have met George Straight who was very nice! Maybe horse shows arent WDW but a lot of these shows have an attendance of 20,000 people a day passing through. I am sure there are times no matter how normal or how hard they try to blend in there are times when they are harrased. But at least give it a try. And I dont think that celebrity's should be allowed to cut lines. They are not better than me or my toddler! Little things like that are the things that annoy people.

if you want to blend in and be like everyone else then act like everyone else

Kind of hard to do if people follow you around with cameras, isn't it? Once during a trip to Disney, on the boat to DtD (when they used the dock at Rainforest AND the dock at the Fulton's) Herve Villachaize wanted to ride the boat from Rainforest to Fulton's. Few people were onboard. The skipper asked everyone if we minded, since we'd just come from the Fulton's dock, and this was unscheduled. Everyone agreed. No sooner had he'd boarded and we'd left than some idiot started "De Plane, De Plane!"

I'm sure more celebs would blend in and act like everyone else IF they could count on being treated like everyone else, not mobbed for autographs, followed around, bothered for pictures when they obviously aren't "on stage" or "at work".

I think justin should have been pummeled to the ground unmecifully by the crowd...And that's just for the fact that he's actually become a 'celebrity' with such an amazing lack of discernable talent...For being rude he should have been forced to wait in line with everybody else.

Why Dumbo? Because they could take a picture, have it printed in a magazine, everyone would immediately know where they had been, and think that they are like "regular folk"

Someone else posted that a photo of them on the ride was in People mag. and from they angle it was taken the photographer had to be on the ride with them.

I am tired of celebs wanting it both ways...

"Look at me!" :wave2:

"DON'T LOOK AT ME!"

I have seen pleanty of celebs walking around NOT making a scene in my few trips to Disney. MUCH better musicians than JT could EVER be... And you know what, they acted like they were on vacation like every other family at the park.

IMHO, JT is just a jerk...

I completely agree. They certainly are NOT better than you or I.

Here is an idea that no one here has thought of. These paprazzi follow celebrities all over the country. Just as one other poster mentioned they try to blend in and disguise themselves. My first thought based on what the OP said was that JT has seen this person before and most likely knows him as paprazzi. The person with the camera would never admit to the public that he was paparazzi a lot of the time they try to show a bad side to a Celebrity so they can make more money. So it really looks like JT was yelling at an innocent father. This, of course, is just my opinion.

My sister is a publicist. Her firm represents some top celebs (not JT though). There are rumors that Carmen and Justin are not getting along, etc. I'm sure they used their Dumbo ride to prove to the world just how happy they all are. I'm sure their publicists had this all set up. My Sis sets up VIP trips to Disney for other celebs. Disney actually prefers this because they don't want all of the celebrity commotion to disturb the guests. VIP treatment is done for the protection of both the celeb and the "regular" guests.

If Justin really did yell at the gentleman with the camera, then that's pretty unfortunate. Maybe he is a jerk. However, I would not expect him to wait in line. He would be doing nothing but posing for pictures and signing autographs during that 30 minute wait. It could be a near riot once word got out. It's a lot easier for everyone to let him on the ride without a wait. If you have a problem with this policy, don't blame Justin. Take it up with Disney. They are the ones who allow this policy.

i don't think Shakespeare (sp?) could have said that any better.
