Just watched the last Dr. Who with David Tennant

Tom Baker was MY Doctor. That's how old I am. I'm used to the regeneration of Doctors and liked most of them. But DT was definitely my new favorite. I cried when he kept saying he didn't want to go. There was such great acting in these last two episodes.

Now the new Doctor. hmmmmmm As others have said, he looks and sounds too much like DT. Oh my goodness get a hair cut!! I think there is another person hiding in that mop. But I will have to wait and see how his first season turns out.

You are just now jumping onto the DT bandwagon?;) I am going to miss him.:guilty:

You also need to check out Capt'n Jack Harkness. Oh la la....he is certainly a favorite here to.

I know, good timing, eh?

Who is this Cap'n Jack that people are talking about? ETA: Nevermind, I just looked him up. I must have missed those episodes - we had a lot of hockey games and I had to stop watching.

I was quite lost watching the last couple of episodes, I got the idea that he was using his remaining time tying up loose ends or rectifying things, but I obviously didn't get the connections. I will likely rent the episodes.

I'm not going to make the same mistake by dismissing the new Doctor right away - but I don't like his hair either ;). You would think I would be used the changes in Doctors since I've been watching since Tom Baker - who remains my favourite.

I love Doctor Who and will be giving it a chance, (although I hate that DT is leaving and not sure I like the new guy :headache: ) I also love Torchwood. These 2 show are what keep me from cancelling my cable. I just can't wait until they start regular episodes of both again.

I actually don't know if I'll be watching Torchwood (assuming it does finally go back into production for 'series 4'). In my opinion I think that Davies butchered the show's whole premise and made Jack into one of the most morally repugnant characters on TV. I understand that others like/love Torchwood and I agree that John Barrowman is sooooooo easy on the eyes, but...that whole business of sacrificing his grandson without even telling the kid what was going on...gack.

YMMV,
agnes!

Finally!!!! It was a marathon day for us, me and my dd's. I had to watch the last 3 back to back. Yowsa.

Bye bye Hottie McHotness.:guilty:

For those of us that watch "Being Human" ha-ha! 2 characters in there. Lady Cacti and Alphonso if you noticed.;) They are BF/GF in "Being Human" and now are both werewolves.

Now off to IMDB the new doctor....

That's why Alphonso looked so familiar to me! I had to look him up online and saw that he was on the Titanic episode, but I shouldn't have remembered him so well from that one episode. I loved him as the wolf! George? Thanks!

Ok I'm a new Doctor Who fan and I really nerded out the last couple of days! I have to join netflixs now to ge the first couple of season w/DT since I didn't realize the marathon was on until I was well into the 2007 season. I actually fell asleep on the couch Sat night watching this. I saved the last two episodes for later this week when I have time to sit and watch them.

Torchwood better get back into production soon. Agnes the Torchwood mini series is what actually got me hooked and I had to watch all of the Torchwood episodes to get more Captain Jack!

Given what happened in COE especially it was nice to see some of the Jack we love.

As sad as it was I thought they did a really good job with the finale.

Like many of you I'm concerned about whether or not I'll like the new doctor.

And I was really hoping the note the doctor had passed to Captain Jack told him to get off his rear and get back to work. They REALLY need to renew that show.

Scuttlebutt is that it has been optioned for a 13 episode series. But it's probably at least a year away, as there has been no official word of filming and there is usually about a 6 month lag between production and airing. If they can start filming in the Febuary (John is committed to Panto through Janurary I belive) then we might see a fall airing but there has been no word if Russell Davies even has scripts (though he is turning Dr. Who over to Stephen Moffett, he is keeping Torchwood).

Torchwood and Dr Who share space so that might also delay filming a bit.

DH and I haven't seen it yet b/c we had a party to attend to that night. I liked DT and don't want to see him go. Peter Davidson was my favorite from the original series, but I think he's moved to my second fave and David has moved into the top spot for me.

I'm also afraid to watch it b/c I know I'll need the Kleenex. I was afraid of watching COE for Torchwood as well and did fine until the last ep (a.k.a. Day 5). The scene with Jack sacrificing his own grandson still haunts me (never would have prior to becoming a mom 7 years ago  ).

Our house is relatively new to Doctor Who, coming on board with Eccelston. When we reached the end of Season "One" and I learned we were losing him as our Doctor, I was crushed. No skinny, sticky uppied haired bean pole in a suit was going to replace MY Doctor!! It took roughly five words and I was a goner: "Hmm. New teeth. That's weird". What is it about that man? What a presence on the screen he has!

Sigh. Anyway, looking forward to seeing him elsewhere, (I hear his Hamlet will soon be released on DVD? True? Also a US pilot in the works!) and while I have reservations about Smith filling those Tennant shoes, I look forward to watching him find his groove with the role and while I think he's a funny looking little dude, I think he'll bring his own unique charm and charisma to the character.

So I just watched the last episode of Doctor Who with David Tennant. I'm really sorry that I never watched any of the episodes with the Tenth Doctor. I really like Christopher Eccleston and didn't give David Tennant a fair chance. I'm going to have to rent or buy the episodes because I quite enjoy D.T. as the Doctor.

He was fantastic as Dr. Who...I am sorry to see him go.....

Oh man!

I go back to Jon Pertwee, so I'm even older than you. I want to hide behind a couch.

That said: Tom Baker was *my* Doctor too, but I loved Chris Eckleston. I took a while to warm up to David Tennant (#10) also. But he is a wonderful actor. My best wishes to the latest incarnation. I think he has potential.

For the new-comers to Dr Who -- I'm not being patronising, but I'm genuinely not sure how you can fully understand it without the context of the previous 10 Drs. There are so many references back to early stuff, and the *trope* it must seem weird.

I'm not here that often, but if you have questions . . . .

I met Pertwee -- was assigned as security for his visit to a science fiction convention in the early 1980s. He was as much of a put-on in person as you would have imagined. :) (Troughton was there as well, if I recall, but that was a different security team.)

As I indicated earlier, the producers of the current series, up until this last story, have been fastidious about not presenting anything that placed any undo need for back-story knowledge from the original series. Now, I don't know if this "incident" (where they essentially figured folks should know who Rassilon was) indicates that they're giving up on trying to serve both audiences -- I personally doubt it. I suspect this was just "one for the old-timers" and we won't see them do that again anytime soon.

I agree. I'm a relative newbie to DW, having only seen the series from 2005 on up, but I've still done research and know enough about some of the old mythology to get by and throw around theories involving some of those themes. (Example: One of my theories about The Waters of Mars was that the reason that the Doctor got so weird at the end was that the Valeyard doctor was about to show up.) One day, probably when I'm out of college, I will get around to watching the classic episodes. In the few issues I've gotten of DWM I've seen photos of some of the aliens from back then... they make me laugh and ask myself, "How can anyone NOT love a show with monsters like that?" I'm such a big fan of classic, cheesy, awful sci-fi... Classic Who seems like it will fit right in!

Wow! Agressive, much?

I had a small typo on Eccleston's name. Yawn.

As to the back-story, I repectfully beg to differ with the above opinion of the current producers. I do not think any of the *new* Dr Who stands alone and there are many who agree with me. The Time Lord issue alone . . . if you came cold to the "End of Time" part 2, wouldn't you have wondered who Timothy Dalton's character was, let alone Claire Bloom's Woman in White.

For those who just came in, there may be many more questions. From sonic screwdrivers, to the history of the Cybermen, to Sarah Jane, to Torchwood. And who the heck is Captain Jack and why the overly long farewell to all those other characters . . .

I'm so glad Bicker is here ready and able to answer questions (one trusts politely) and correct people's typos. :upsidedow

I'll check in occasionally to see whether or not I can help. Just in case Bicker has a gap in his/her incredibly expansive knowledge! :)

ok, as someone who has watched faithfully since #9, but not at all before that, what should I know about the above two references that I didn't get from the two part finale?

Thank you.

I'm guessing you'd miss the significance of the fact that the one guy was Rassilon, big chief Time Lord boy. IIRC, Rassilon pretty much created the Time Lords. Before that, they were just ordinary Gallifreyans.

All I know is, I wasn't sure who the narrator was in the first part, but as soon as that final scene at the end began and they rotated around him and finally the 'Time Lords in funny hats' came into view behind... I smacked the arms of my chair and hollered, "WHAT?!?! OH MY GOSH!" My brother was so confused.

Even though DH and I haven't seen it (been trying to bypass over the spoilers as much as possible ;)), thank you for confirming that Timothy Dalton's character is in fact Rassilon . That's who we thought of immediately after watching part 1.

Now, to find the time to watch it popcorn:: now that DH's vacation is over :(

Once upon a time, I thought no Doctor could be better than Tom Baker.

And then I watched David Tennant.

By the same token, I wavered between being a total Leela Grrrl (admit it: she was a Grrrl before the species even existed!) and wanted to be Sarah Jane when I grew up. (I admit I harbor a great liking for Rose Tyler.)

But then I saw Donna Noble.

Ahhhhh. Tennant was magic. Catherine Tate was magic. Together, they were a rare joy to watch.

Donna had a great sense of humor since I could see her totally smarting off at an alien (you wanna bet Time Boy?).
