Just watched the last Dr. Who with David Tennant

Wow! Agressive, much?
Wow! Defensive much?

As to the back-story, I repectfully beg to differ with the above opinion of the current producers. I do not think any of the *new* Dr Who stands alone and there are many who agree with me. The Time Lord issue alone . . . if you came cold to the "End of Time" part 2, wouldn't you have wondered who Timothy Dalton's character was, let alone Claire Bloom's Woman in White.
However, that is the counter-example that I provided -- that I specifically mentioned as the first and only time that they've done that. Perhaps you could outline other situations where you feel that the producers left new viewers mystified, and then let the new viewers help you understand whether your concerns for them, in this regard, are an issue or not.

Another one here who cried during DT's last episode - why did he leave?

Two thoughts about the show - first, hate the new "catch phrase" of "Geronimo!" I'll really miss "Allons y".

Second, thought it was interesting that he went to everyone's "future" to save them but to Rose's "past".

Ok, I have a third. it really made me sad to see Donna but never together with Dr. Who. I miss them together.

The seeming choice of "Geronimo!" as the new Doctor's catch-phrase struck me as somewhat odd...anyone else think it could possibly be construed as a slur?

agnes!

DH and I haven't seen it yet b/c we had a party to attend to that night. I liked DT and don't want to see him go. Peter Davidson was my favorite from the original series, but I think he's moved to my second fave and David has moved into the top spot for me.
).

Did you see the little video they did for some charity event where Peter Davison and David Tennant't doctors meet?

It was not much, but it was very sweet.

I've watched Doctor Who since I was a kid (I believe it was Tom Baker's last season when I started watching on channel 56 with my Dad), so I was really excited when they brought it back in 2005. DH and I have a remote control Dalek and K-9. I was a huge fan of Eccleston and bummed he was only the Doctor for a short time.

I liked David Tennant a lot from the beginning, but didn't love him until Catherine Tate joined the show. I spent all weekend watching the DW marathon and realized it was because I associated Eccleston with Rose and disliked Martha intensely. So it wasn't that Tennant grew on me so much as I had to like the companion before I could appreciate him as the Doctor. he gave the Doctor a whole new depth and emotion that wasn't shown before. You could tell he really enjoyed the character. I cried at the end of End of Time 2 (as much as COE ep 5). I'm trying to give Matt Smith a fair chance but I'm not too thrilled with the little I have seen so far.

Both DH and I grew up with the Classic Doctor Who, and were very skeptical when we found out about the new series.
We LOVED Christopher Eccleson so much (not enough to know how to spell his name... But a lot!)
And were not sure about David Tennant.... But he is now my all time favorite Doctor.
That being said, I am excited about the new guy and will give him a chance for sure.
The good thing is, if he stinks... They can always have him regenerate!

John Simm and Bernard Cribbins were both wonderful.
We were watching Life on Mars season 2 durning the week between The end of time part one and two... It was a little wierd to say the least!

When Wilf was emotional when he watched the Doctor leave for the last time it just choked me up. DH was on STRICT instructions not to pat me on the leg and say something like "its ok honey... Its just a tv show".... he would have been killed.

We have made lots of new "Who" fans among our friends. They either never watched (or heard of) or didn't really get into the older shows. They might not get some of the tidbits thrown in for the long time fans, but they still enjoy the show and really get into it. Thats the beauty of Doctor Who!

I'm looking forward to having a full season this year!

I still don't wanna talk about it. :( I'm in mourning. :sad1:

I will always be a Ninth doctor gal, but I did LOVE Tennant, especially when he was with Martha.

Can't beat those classic Tom Baker episodes though. My family owns just about every episode of Dr. Who.

Eccleston was my first doctor and I never forget that--shame he didn't want to stay on for just a bit more. Tennant was just as amazing and, after these two, I'm very skeptical about Smith. I will try to give him a chance, but I have my expectations set very low.

On the upside, at least Tennant is starring in "Rex Is Not Your Lawyer" so hopefully that'll be something worth watching...

I was also seeing Sam Tyler when The Master first showed up.

::yes:: I loved it! I especially liked it when David said to Peter that he will always be his Doctor. That's who he grew up watching at the time as did I when public television finally started showing Peter's EPs in 1984 or so.

David was asked that question on The Graham Norton Show. His answer was that he wanted to leave before it became a job. But he also said that he had a lot of fun playing The Doctor.

Yeah. He made it pretty clear that he loved playing the Doctor, but that he knew he needed to leave before it got old for everyone involved. Better to leave early than overstay your welcome, and so on.

These are two of the best interviews I've read regarding his choice:

I do just remember seeing Pertwee a few times before Tom Baker came on. My favorite companion was Romana (sp?) She and Tom Baker were the best together. Too bad their marriage didn't last.

I'm guessing you'd miss the significance of the fact that the one guy was Rassilon, big chief Time Lord boy. IIRC, Rassilon pretty much created the Time Lords. Before that, they were just ordinary Gallifreyans.

All I know is, I wasn't sure who the narrator was in the first part, but as soon as that final scene at the end began and they rotated around him and finally the 'Time Lords in funny hats' came into view behind... I smacked the arms of my chair and hollered, "WHAT?!?! OH MY GOSH!" My brother was so confused.

well I learned something new. I had been under the impression that all Gallifreyans were Time Lords. Not sure why I had always assumed that. How were the Time Lords created?

I just have to smile. In the very best sense of the word.

My question is which Romana? The Romanas were great companions. Perhaps the best. The Romanas were Time Lords and could snark back at Dr Who, amazing.

But what is with marriage? Brilliant Romana #I (Mary Tamm) opted out of the show. Romana #2 was Lala Ward. She was very, very good, but also left the show.

Neither Romana was ever *married* to Dr Who. The actress Lala Ward did marry the actor Tom Baker. But the marriage of the actors was rather short-lived.

;)

Oh it was Lala Ward that I loved. I'm sorry I didn't make it clear that she married Tom Baker not Dr. Who. :lmao:
