my girlfriend and i both work in a resteraunt, needless to say, we dont have a lot of money to spend on vacations. back in march, we saved up some money and took a three day trip to disneyland and california adventure. we went there because it is close to where we live.

i cant begin to tell everybody what a great time we had, we laughed all day and felt like we were kids the whole time that we were there. it got me to thinking.....

i grew up in the midwest, my girlfriend grew up in seattle. it seems as though everyone west of the rocky mountains went to disneyland on vacations as a child, and everyone east of the rockies went to disney world.

i tried to tell her how much better i thought dw was than dl, but she really didnt understand. we came back home and the week after we got home, i was talking to one of my regulars in the resteraunt. she told me she still went to dw a lot and agreed with me how much better it was than dl.

i told her we were going to try to plan a trip to dw during christmas break, but that money would probably be tight. the next week, she came in, and had taken the time to print 6 pages of information for us, including places to stay and prices etc. (stuff that i already knew from reading this site).

we were blown away, people, especially in our industry are generally rude, demanding and snobby, and for someone to do something like this was truly a kind and generous act.

weeks went by and we saw the regular a couple of times and made smalltalk. then she didnt come in for a couple of weeks. i then mad a trip out of town to do some training for a new resteraunt, and was gone for four more weeks. i got back last week and saw the regular. we made small talk again and then she asked me how my dw trip planning was going.

i told her we still wanted to go, but money was still tight and that the trip depended on whether or not my girlfriends parents were going to go to orlando for christmas. if they went they would be able to buy her plane ticket, and that would be one less expense we would have to worry about.

i walked away for a while, and she summoned me back to the table. she stuck out her hand and held a piece of paper out towards me. "this is for you", she said. "what is it?" i replied. "its a plane ticket and a little spending money for you" she said back to me.

i opened up the piece of paper and she had written us a check for $500.00!!!

needless to say, i wasnt about to accept that. i was brought up to never ask for anything or take handouts. we went back and forth, i said "i cant" and she kept replying, "if you dont it will make us mad" and "take it, it will make us happy".

i took the check in the back to show my girlfriend, and she started crying. we went back out to thank them, and they were gone. WOW, things like this are truly refreshing when we feel mistreated on a daily basis.

well anyway....WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD.

so the dates are set. jan 7-14 and i need help. we will probably be in the parks 6 days and need advise for rooms and tickets. im calling on all you dis'ers to make my girlfriends trip to dw the best it can be (on a budget). thanx for all your help.

sorry to take so much of your time, just wanted to share that story.

Wow,what a great thing to hear especially on Thanksgiving.Have a wonderful trip.

WOW - there are wonderful people... and you must be one too for her to have done that for you.

That really is such a wonderful story to hear especially on Thanksgiving. Have a great trip!:)

Talk about spreading a little pixie dust !!! I hope your entire trip is just as magical and wonderful as it's beginning!!

That is such a nice story. I guess we all know what (who) you are thankful for today! :D

Make sure you bring back a little pixie dust for her & lots of pictures that you can show her! She'll appreciate it. It's people like that who make other lives more special & you must be a special person also for her to do this.

Have a great trip! :D

First off WELCOME! Second I'm glad to see there are great people left in this world. I'm not just talking about your customer.

Now as far as your WDW trip goes. If your on a tight budget and you want to stay on site, you can't beat the All Star hotels, or you may want to try the new Pop Century hotel that's we're doing this time. Your other choice would be one of the hotels at DTD. As far as tickets go you're best bet is probably a Park Hopper. Have a great time.

what a great story! Since your on a tight budget, I would ask my boss for extra hours, and be extra nice to your customers. They will be happier and the tips larger.

Great news, and welcome to the DIS boards.

Happy Thanksgiving

:wizard: Pixie Dust :wizard:

Now first step make reservations, and let us know if your going with Value, Moderate, or Deluxe and if your going to try for AP rate?

My friend & co-worker minnster22 (above) sent this post to me this Thanksgiving morning to read. I now have tears in my eyes reading this, as we are both waitresses and related to your story so well. No one has given us ticket money for a trip(that's hard earned!), but in 2002 I turned 50 years young and 6 of my closest friends and I went to WDW to celebrate(no hubbies & no kiddies!)...Before we left some of our favorite customers helped us to enjoy our celebration, by giving us very nice tips!!!!
Advise:
Go to your local bank & open a separte DISNEY savings account and try to deposit something every other day or at least once a week! Work lots, smile lots and be super friendly....they'll love ya for it and tip ya well!
Budget trip:....still stay on site....there is nothing like it!
Pop Century would be a good choice for the budget minded, or if you can go to a moderate try..Caribbean Beach Resort. If you hit the lottery before you go, try a Deluxe like the Boardwalk Inn or the Beach Club, or rent points right here on these boards and stay in a studio at an Epcot resort..we did that for my birthday...worked out very well!

Have a wonderful trip...I'm very jealous!!! ;)

What a wonderful story! I am tearing up reading this. Thank you for sharing! Have a wonderful trip!

Happy Holidays everyone!
Debbie

WOW what a beautiful and wonderful gesture! I hope you all have a great trip, and just remember to "pay it forward" :D

thank you for all of your responses. ive been thiking about pop century, as it will fit in the budget.

its good to know that people like that are around. as corny as it sounds, it kind of restores your faith in humanity. i wish i had the means to do that for someone else, can you imagine the feeling you would get?

back to the trip: is it economically realistic to rent points from someone, or does that end up being more expensive?

That is wonderful!!! Regards to renting points, if you stayed in a studio at Old Key West (I will be there during your dates :p ) for a week I believe that would be 80 points. The going rate is $10 per point - although you may be able to find them for less. So $800 or $114 per night. There is no tax that rentee's pay. If you wanted to stay at another Vacation Club resort, it would be more expensive.

Good luck and enjoy your planning!!

You will find some great tips about how to save money at WDW.

What a wonderful story - Walt Disney fans are fantastic! This lady really understands about the magic of "pixie dust" and how important it is to spread it around.

Have a wonderful, magical vacation!

That's wonderful! I'm sure you'll have a great time. I'm also in the restaurant industry, I know how bad it can get - sounds like you have the best regulars, though. ;)

Have fun! :earsboy:

Make sure you budget in money for eating. We're doing a budget trip right before x-mas for 4 days and the meals are going to be all fast food. We have found some places that we thought would never like, and they are some of our new favs!! Also meal splitting is allowed and we sometimes go that route also.

Here are a few of our favs from each park-

MK- Peco's Bills and Pinnochio's, and Columbia Harbor House
MGM- Splitting meals at 50's or Sci-fi
Epcot- Snack your way around the World showcase counter service.
AK- Flametree, and Tuskerhouse.

Great story, the All-stars are great and we loved their food court. Lots of alternatives. If you do Sports we were always first on the bus loop between the other allstars. Have fun, and welcome to getting addicted to WDW!!

Just wanted to add that I think renting points is a great idea. Stays "cost" less points Sunday through Thursday. You might want to consider spending any weekend nights in a value resort (point "cost" doubles on Friday and Saturday nights.) Also, I believe that a studio with a standard view at the Boardwalk is the same amount of points as OKW. During the low season, you could stay a Sun-Thu for about 45 pts (or $450), I think. Check out the DVC Rent/Trade board if you're interested! I ( and several of my friends) have had very good experiences renting points.:)
