my girlfriend and i both work in a resteraunt, needless to say, we dont have a lot of money to spend on vacations. back in march, we saved up some money and took a three day trip to disneyland and california adventure. we went there because it is close to where we live.
i cant begin to tell everybody what a great time we had, we laughed all day and felt like we were kids the whole time that we were there. it got me to thinking.....
i grew up in the midwest, my girlfriend grew up in seattle. it seems as though everyone west of the rocky mountains went to disneyland on vacations as a child, and everyone east of the rockies went to disney world.
i tried to tell her how much better i thought dw was than dl, but she really didnt understand. we came back home and the week after we got home, i was talking to one of my regulars in the resteraunt. she told me she still went to dw a lot and agreed with me how much better it was than dl.
i told her we were going to try to plan a trip to dw during christmas break, but that money would probably be tight. the next week, she came in, and had taken the time to print 6 pages of information for us, including places to stay and prices etc. (stuff that i already knew from reading this site).
we were blown away, people, especially in our industry are generally rude, demanding and snobby, and for someone to do something like this was truly a kind and generous act.
weeks went by and we saw the regular a couple of times and made smalltalk. then she didnt come in for a couple of weeks. i then mad a trip out of town to do some training for a new resteraunt, and was gone for four more weeks. i got back last week and saw the regular. we made small talk again and then she asked me how my dw trip planning was going.
i told her we still wanted to go, but money was still tight and that the trip depended on whether or not my girlfriends parents were going to go to orlando for christmas. if they went they would be able to buy her plane ticket, and that would be one less expense we would have to worry about.
i walked away for a while, and she summoned me back to the table. she stuck out her hand and held a piece of paper out towards me. "this is for you", she said. "what is it?" i replied. "its a plane ticket and a little spending money for you" she said back to me.
i opened up the piece of paper and she had written us a check for $500.00!!!
needless to say, i wasnt about to accept that. i was brought up to never ask for anything or take handouts. we went back and forth, i said "i cant" and she kept replying, "if you dont it will make us mad" and "take it, it will make us happy".
i took the check in the back to show my girlfriend, and she started crying. we went back out to thank them, and they were gone. WOW, things like this are truly refreshing when we feel mistreated on a daily basis.
well anyway....WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD.
so the dates are set. jan 7-14 and i need help. we will probably be in the parks 6 days and need advise for rooms and tickets. im calling on all you dis'ers to make my girlfriends trip to dw the best it can be (on a budget). thanx for all your help.
sorry to take so much of your time, just wanted to share that story.
