I just wanted to share some information with you all. We just returned for a week at WDW. First, I must say that I feel WDW goes above and beyond when meeting the needs of "differently" abled individuals. We had such a wonderful trip!
I wanted to share two stories about our GAC. On our first day at MK, I went to City Hall to get a GAC. When I explained that I had a DD who was in a wheelchair and that I would like to have a GAC... just in case. Her first response was "well, the wheelchair alone should be all you need." I informed her that last year when we came to WDW, we had a couple of CM's who would not let us use alternate entrances because we didn't have the GAC. When I told the CM our story from the previous year, her response was "well, that's all I need to hear." She then proceeded to fill out our GAC.
Another episode occurred when my DH was waiting in line with DD to see one of the characters. One of the CM's working the character area came over and started talking to my husband. She asked if we had a GAC. My husband told her that we did. She pointed out another family to my husband. She said this family had been in DW for three days and no one had told them about the GAC. (This child obviously had severe disabilities.) She told my husband that she just wanted to make sure we had one because if we didn't, she was going to make us go get one!
Anyway...make sure you get one. Don't assume because your loved one has an obvious disability that they will make the appropriate accomodations!
