Resort Thread Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE Resorts

They offered my DH a 2:00 checkout when he checked in and said he could call later to arrange it. When he did, they said “no”. So, passive aggressive me told the bell hop that he couldn’t check us out when he took our bags for transfer. The room will now sit empty until our check out time.
Well both the Swan & Dolphin are sold out tonight thru Thursday. They really need to turn the rooms. That is why they could not offer your husband a late checkout at 2 PM.

Wow you really showed them who was boss, not. You just caused a delay for tonight's guests that will be in your room.

Dave

My guess is that they had a high occupancy rate and needed to flip the room for another guest, busy time of year. Plus, IMHO S&D, is not as likely to care about status levels. From things I've read some of the high tourist locations are like this.
As I just posted they are sold out thru Thursday. Both of these hotels are considered Resort Category, they are not like a random Marriott hotel on a random Monday in January.

There is also a massive amount of high status guests but you would think that these guests would understand high occupancy during certain times of the year or when events are being hosted at the hotel.

Just curious if there is ever an additional charge added to guest's bill for doing this. It certainly affects the next guest who is trying to check-in when there room is not available. So not cool.

Your two sarcastic posts are duly noted.

In case you missed it, they did offer us the late checkout and then changed their minds and said “no”. If they had said, “No late checkout” from the start I would not be annoyed.

As for showing them who is boss, I rented the room through checkout. It is mine to use, or not use, until then. Telling them it was free before checkout is a courtesy they did not earn.

Why would they charge me for leaving the room and letting it turn over at the checkout time? I have no obligation to physically check out or even tell them I am leaving. They have my credit card on file and will put the final charges on it.

It normally is a $50 charge for a 2 PM late checkout. And room your are in also impacts if will be granted regardless of your guest status.

But it is always dependent on the load update (Rooms to turn) for the day of check-out. That's why you are always requested check back on the morning of your scheduled check-out. I have never been confirmed a free or even a paid late check-out when we check in.

For not telling the hotel you removed bags from your room before official check out time? You have to be kidding me, that’s beyond absurd. I’d wager a good chunk of guests don’t bother to tell the hotel they’ve cleared their bags out a couple hours earlier than official checkout time or go through the manual on app checkout process. There is a reason many us hotels do automatic checkouts now, and Swolphin is included in that. PP was just annoyed enough at the switcharoo on the late check out they didn’t take time out of their day to check out of the room early.

One can debate the morality of that- but I’m kinda dying at this lol- but charging for it? Hard no.

I can see our room from your room! We looked out over the round roof and the pool. We may have crossed paths during our time there.

P.S. you got a much better rate than we did. Ours was in the $400 range per night.

It’s a beautiful hotel. I got my deal through DH’s AMEX Platinum card. Here’s my post on the credit cards thread.

We are using our second half AMEX Platinum THC credit in a week! The Dolphin was $694 including taxes and resort fees for 2 nights. Subtract $300 AMEX credit and the $150 credit and I’m down to $122 per night! Plus, I got 35 DVC points back by canceling my first two nights. The luggage fairies will move our stuff for us.

We are moving to a Fort Wilderness cabin today. We go from the middle of everything to the middle of nowhere, lol.

That's the truth! I was super excited to stay at FW years ago, but it was a one and done for us. Internal transportation was a mess, and bussing to MK was too, we ended up renting a golf car to get us to the boat launch as we spent most of our time at MK and The Contemporary for a conference I was attending. But having to but to 3 of the parks got old, fast. I found S/D to be such an ideal location and wonderful hotel. I hope your stay at FW goes great, curious to hear your thoughts.

Ah, I see. I was wondering how you managed that.

I’m guessing the crowds are lowering now in the parks. Have you seen a big shift?

No. We’ve been here for only 2 days and it’s been busy both days. Could only get 1 T1 attraction at Epcot today. Both Rat and Frozen were sold out by the time we got into the park and tapped into our first ride at 10:00.

Thanks for the pictures @robinb ! I’m more excited now for my trip next month. I’ll be at the Swan.

It helps to see those breakfast pictures! I’ve been trying to decide on Rosa Mexicano or Garden Grove for a sit down breakfast. I’d almost decided on Garden Grove, but those pictures at Rosa’s look really good .. Lol, so now I’m really not sure !

Just to make your decision even harder, I’ll add Trattoria Al Forno on the Boardwalk to the mix. That was our favorite breakfast by far.

lol, that does make my decision harder 😂 But thanks for the recommendation ! I’ll look into that one too.

There’s always so many things I want to do at Disney World, but never enough time for them all. Just means I need more trips, I guess !

Ah…my apologies! I misread your post to mean you stayed until 2pm anyway. Of course you shouldn’t be charged.

Can we do online check in and go straight to the room?
Yes, the Swan & Dolphin resorts (Marriott Bonvoy properties) support the Marriott Bonvoy Mobile Key, allowing you to use your smartphone as a room key after checking in via the app, providing a touchless way to open doors, and the fitness center, you'll need the Marriott Bonvoy app.
