Last week my waitlist ressie came through for VB 6/19 & 6/20 for an Ocean View Inn room at the last minute, I was thrilled to say the least. I confrimed my ressie and was all set (I thought). Yesterday my DVC confirmation arrived in the mail, but it was addressed to my husband and reserved in my husbands name! He never made any calls regarding this ressie ONLY I DID and he's NOT even going, only me and my best friend from High School. I called MS as I was confused and I told them what had happened and questioned why this ressie was in his name and not mine (by the way, our last names are DIFFERENT) and also asked if my friends name was on the ressie as well. I was told that even though I made the ressie (my name is on the deed) they automatically put the ressie in the man's name????!!!! (WHAT???) Neither my name or my friends was even listed...only DH! I am now waiting to receive my correct ressie in the mail, let's see what happens. I find it very disturbing that MY wishes and ressie were totally disregarded, what do you fellow DISers think? Like I said in my opening I just needed to vent!

For awhile, I was listed first on all correspondence but they had my DH listed as Mrs Rick _______! So, I corrected them. Now, everything comes in his name!!! And as he says, he doesn't know anything about how to work our points :confused3  :teeth:

Same thing here. I ALWAYS make the ressies, and I was the one who started the purchase process. For the first few years, all our confirmations came in my name. The last two years, they have come with DH's name on them. The important thing is to make sure the REAL occupants of the villa for this vacation are correct in the computers at MS so you wont have trouble checking in.

::yes:: ::yes:: FWIW, all of my confirmations seem to come addressed to my dh (who never is the one to make the ressies) but it also alway's says once you open up the letter On mm/dd/yy this reservation was made by and my name appears :confused3 So my name does show up on the confirmation, but it always comes addressed to dh. I always just assummed it was because his name was listed 1st on the contract. Although, I don't remember for sure who was listed first as we bought almost 8 yrs ago. In any case, your name should have been on the confirmation as having made the ressie so that is strange :scratchin Hope everything works out for you.

All reservations are sent to the primary contact for the contract, regardless of who made the reservation or for whom the reservation was made. That is part of the safety valve they have put into the system. In our case, member mailings seem to alternate between my wife's name appearing first and mine appearing first, and about 50% or more of the time if our guide calls she will leave the message for my wife or on my wife's mailbox.

Maybe he thinks she is the decision maker! :p

Doctor P what do you mean by "SAFETY VALVE"?????

I always make the DVC reservations as well. This most recent one was addressed only to my dh, but once you open the letter, it does state "this reservation was confirmed for......." and lists both my dh and myself. So I would assume as long as you and your friend are mentioned in the "this reservation confirmed for....." section you'd be alright. Glad your waitlist came through ! :cool1:

That was the really strange thing that I should have mentioned in my original posting....It says reservation confirmed for DH!

That's wierd. All our ressies come here in my name. We even laughed about it last trip as all the paperwork had my name on it! :cool1:

Hummm.. I kept my name when I got married so I understand this can become a bit confusing to others at times and cause inconveniences down the road if not corrected quickly. I went and checked my last conformation and it was addressed to me. I remember our guide said he would put my name first since I was the one who would be doing all the corresponding. So, I would guess it is the first one listed on the contract.

Except that some of us women should be the primary contact. I've noticed this with DVC too. I KNOW I told them my name (which is one of those "different last names") should come first on the contract (I had a nasty problem involving an ex-husband and a mortgage because his name came first, and since then make a point of having my name listed first on all property), know all my paperwork was signed and filed with my name first, and I know my husband gets all the mail. (We did buy resale, so I suspect the flip happened when DVC registered the contract in their system, though it could have happened in closing - I'm not sure what my deed says).

I've noticed this "remanent of sexism" in other systems as well, where they will flip the names to put the man's name first. With DVC and this husband (who I'm planning on sticking with and it looks like he'll stick with me) it isn't a big deal (I am first on our mortgage, though - although they did have to go back and retype closing documents to make it that way on our original mortgage). But I know from experience it isn't harmless.

Out of curiosity I just checked our ressie for HH for August and that one was mailed to my husband but the ressie was confirmed for me............

I'm assuming he's referring to the fact that you can't book a reseravation and instruct them to send the confirmation to a third party. It always comes addressed to the deeded owner of the property.

If DVC did accept instructions to send the confirmation to a name and address not listed on the contract, you could have issues with identity theft. Get the member ID and some personal info about a DVC member, and one could easily book trips without their knowledge. At least with the confirmations going to the owner, he/she should be aware of any activity that occurs (at least when the printed confirmations actually reach their destination.)

It should be addressed to the deeded OWNERS of the property not just one owner (automatically) assuming that the owner is the man. I am really getting tired of being treating like a second class citizen. This DVC ownership was purchased by my husband AND myself with our money (paid cash) and we should both be treated fairly and respectfully...what is the BIG DEAL about using ALL OWNERS names in any correspondance? I'm not lashing out at anyone in particular....this just really ANNOYS ME!

It's probably naive to think that every contract would have a maximum of two owners. I'm sure there are contracts that have a dozen owners as multiple family members are all listed on the deed.

If this is one of your biggest annoyances in life, you should consider yourself truely blessed. . .

I just opened my reservation for december at VWL, addressed to my husband, and confirmed for me? Really not a big deal, I think one of the problems is they allow 4 lines for the address, because they also put United States, there probably isnt another line for a second name, but as someone else said, what about contracts that are "owned" by multiple parties.

You could always hire and attorney, have the deed reversed to have your name first, that way all correspondense would be addressed to you? Expensive, but a thought!

Just for fun, when we purchased some classic cars and a boat, I did the paperwork, I put my name first!!! So every thing comes to me, and when we get into a little tiff, I always say, well I think I will go take my Shelby for a drive!!! :goodvibes

You asked what I think. I think if this is a big issue with you, you need to get a life!
