Just need to vent.......

2. The OP poster also indicated that she was told that the man's name is always used on a reservation, if the DVC points are owned by a man and a woman. She was not told that the name of the "principal contact" was always used. She was told that the man's name was used.

Don't forget someone like myself who, as the female, did not request to be listed first for anything, and always am. All correspondence comes in my name only.

Just want to clarify this - are you saying that you are not listed first on your deed and/or your husband is designated as the "principal contact", but all mailings come to you? If you are the "first" owner, and mailings come to you, things in your case seem to be working as they should. If you are listed "second" and everything comes to you, then whether you are male or female, it sounds like Disney may just need to tighten up a little on making sure that the data entry people are entering the information in the correct order.

Disney may or may not have a general policy that defaults to a male name, but right now that is a question that only they can answer. This whole concern might just originate in sloppiness. But since this particular form of sloppiness can translate into legal concerns for some members down the road, I think it still probably needs to be addressed.

This could be a good thing since those little post cards have cost me a bundle

All our stuff comes in my name even if my wife calls to make reservations or changes etc we really don't care to be honest who is named on the reservation and none of the others on the res are ever named.

Thanks DonaldBuzz&Minnie you summed it up for me perfectly. JerJan :flower:

I posted earlier that my husband is indeed noted as Principal contact but for the last 5 years all the ressies have been sent in my name(I've made all the ressies). Except the last one I made in April for next spring, that came directed to my dh. Then later in the week I order a print out of our contract use and it too then came in my name....

I am listed first on the deed and all mailings come in my name. I guess I threw that into the mess because I wanted to show that the man is not automatically listed first. We did not ask for me to be first.

Perhaps it was when you bought, that they just assumed. Perhaps it depends on the people who were working on your deed.

Two other times that I have seen this as an issue:

1. Last year, we (as a couple) closed on our house. I am named first on everything except DH has to sign the homestead declaration (alone) because he is a MAN. This day and age with gay marriages in my state, what do you do when 2 married women buy a house?

Makes you think, is there some sort of FL state law that obliges the male (if there is one) to be listed 1st?

2. Today, probably because of this thread. Recieved my DDE cards today. I called for them, I am the primary contact, requested 2nd card for DH out of a courtesy. Guess who's card was printed 1st (hint: not mine)?

BTW, DH's 1st initial is M and mine is before that, so it not like there is an alphabetic issue here. ;)

No. I am a female and I am listed first!

I think I officially give up on this thread! Enjoy all......

: As promised, I am here to update all of you on my ressie. I received a "NEW" confirmation letter in the mail yesterday with MY NAME as the person for whom the ressie is for!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :goodvibes :goodvibes   :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :cheer2: :earboy2: :earboy2:

Glad to hear it was resolved for you.

Whoa, this is a long thread! I read about half of it.

Forgive me if this has already been addressed, but I have a question. Suppose the Original Poster wanted to bring 3 friends to DVC w/ her, and got a one-bedroom or studio. If the ressie was in her husband's name, would Disney claim that made a total of five people (even though her husband wasn't there), and say that was too many for the room size?

Also, let me mention two personal experiences relevant to this. I recently traded into BWV via Interval International. The confirmation from Interval International had my name listed first, followed by my husband's name. When I got to BWV, check-in couldn't find my reservation. Luckily, I had brought the reservation number with me. When they found it, it was listed under my husband's name. (His last name is different from mine.) Dh was actually only with me a short part of the trip, and I would really have preferred the ressie in my own name!

This next comment isn't about the DVC, but it's about another timeshare and it shows that sexism isn't gone. I recently bought two more timeshares (I'm addicted to buying timeshares!) I specifically told the timeshare saleman that I wanted my name listed first, since I handle all the reservations, payments, etc. When we filled out the purchase agreement, I filled in my name first, followed by Dh's. I just got our deeds, and ownership is listed as "Tom S. and wife, Judy S. (With our full last names, of course, which I haven't written here -- they are not the same name.) I'm not too happy about that!

I hate that fact that everything is in my husband's name too! How 1950s of them!

Since I handle the money, make a larger share of it and do all the vacation planning, they have some nerve. When they upgrade the reservation system to allow packages to be added, they better upgrade it to allow joint owners names to both appear!

They even asked me who would be the primary contact and I told them I would be but again, my husbands name appears on everything.

The last time the bank did that, I moved my money!

Glad to see I'm not the only one. :Pinkbounc
