We just got back on Wed evening from a 12 day stay at OKW and noticed a few new things we wanted to mention.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom in building 64 and found all new appliances in the kitchen. The microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher were very similar to the old ones, but the stove now has the flat ceramic cooktop.
The TVs looked new, but pretty much the same as before, but there was a DVD player in place of the old VCR.
The sofabed in the lving room looked like they had just recovered the old one in a slightly different fabric - until we opened it up. It's a totally new design compared to the ones they used to have. I'm not sure how to describe it, but here goes. Instead of a metal frame that pulls up and out of the couch, the whole front of the couch pulls out and you end up with the front end being like a footboard for the bed. The top 2/3 of the mattress is all one piece, just folded up and the bottom 1/3 is a separate piece that fits snugly without any noticeable seam once it's open. There is a solid flat piece of some type under the whole mattress and the whole bed felt nice and firm. No metal bars in your back, in fact, there are no metal pieces to catch or get hit with, none of the hinges or bars are exposed when it's open. My oldest DD and my niece slep there and said it was very comfortable.
We noticed that there are no more throw pillows except in the master bedroom. I know that last year there were some in the living room, but those are gone now. I'm pretty sure that when we bought into DVC, there were also some throw pillows in the second bedroom, whenever they disappeared, they are gone now too.

Thanks for the scoop! When we were down a few weeks ago, our unit in #35 had the new appliances but the OLD type couch. It will be nice to have the new style so whoever gets the pullout couch isn't miserable! :)

Thank's for sharing glad to hear they're keeping our home away from home in great condition.::yes:: :wave2:

Thanks for the update! We are heading to an OKW 1 bedroom real soon.

We had the new appliances but old couch too on our last trip. The new couch sounds quite interesting - looking forward to seeing it. Thanks for the update! :)

We just got back from OKW a couple of hours ago. Our 1 bedroom had new appliances, DVD but the old couch. It still had throw pillows in the living room and master. Maybe the couches are being replaced only as needed???

We also got back from OKW on the 31st. We stayed in a two bedroom in building 53. Our experience matches yours except:

My son reports that the pull out couch was the old design with a very firm mattress. He couldn't feel the bars, but then he's a skinny 13 year old.

There was one throw pillow on each bed in the second bedroom and at least three in the Master bedroom. Two throw pillows each on the couch and loveseat.

Sue, thanks for the update. Aren't those new couches neat? We were just discussing them today. We want to buy a sleeper sofa & want one like the new ones at OKW. You are right though ... they are hard to describe, but a whole lot nicer to sleep on than ones with metal bars.

Sounds like a better design for the sleeper. Are they only at OKW now, does anyone know? Or are they replacing them at the other resorts as well? Which resort is next for replacements?

And no trip report yet?!

(The new photo is great! Hope you had a blast.)

Thanks for the report! We are heading to OKW and will be staying in a 2BR this August for 6 nights. DH and I, my parents (we're treating them to the lodging for their 45th anniversary), and DS (15). DS will get the sleeper sofa...hoping for one of the new ones but he's a sound sleeper and will make do with the old style if need be. I'm getting soooo excited about our first DVC stay...August can't get here soon enough!

We had the ceramic cooker last trip and the appliances seemed very new. Old sofa bed though. I read in the DVC magazine that they are doing work on the rooms that need it including installing DVD players, new sofabeds and interior paint where necessary. I will stay there again once the slide is finished:D

The new sleep sofa's sound much nicer than the old. Now lets hope as they upgrade sofa's in the other resorts they use this new style and SSR is completely equipped with the new sofa's.

We did have a blast! Trip report will have to wait until we catch up on mail, etc.

Went to a Member Update and found out that:

•Long awaited DVC website is just around the corner on May 4: resort comparisons, polls, countdowns, personalized homepages.
•Online account management within a year.
•Attempting to add Saturdays for MS without increasing dues a lot.
•Will limit the # of CMs who can transfer to SSR so that service at other resorts is not severely affected.
•Parking at SSR will be similar to OKW (I didn't realize that before) and noise reduction from PI has been taken into account during planning and construction.
•SSR marketplace will be like Pop Century.

(I'm also adding this info as a new thread.)

•Attempting to add Saturdays for MS without increasing dues a lot.

As a new member what does this mean? Is this reducing the points for a Saturday stay or something completely different?

It would mean having MS open on Saturday to take reservations, as now MS is only open Mon - Fri.

I hope all the Hide a bed couches get replaced with this new model. Our DS would rather sleep on the floor.

There are still throw pillows, but, they "grow legs" so fast that they have to keep ordering them.
The TV is a different brand, but, very similar. The old ones were Sony's. I love the new microwave and pots and pans. Bought the exact microwave for home and am still looking for the pots and pans. :)

Thanks for the info on the sleeper sofa.
