I have to add something to this thread concerning check-in times. When my husband, brother, sister-in-law and I checked in for our stay at the BCV January 15-19th, we arrived for check-in at 10:30am. We booked a one-bedroom. I made no requests when I made the reservation other than non-smoking, but the CM checking us in asked if we had any preferences. I asked if any rooms were ready now and he said no. So then I said, how about a 1st floor room? He said they did have one available, gave me the keys, and told me to call later to see if the room was ready.
We walked to Epcot, walked around, went to the Cantina de San Angel for lunch, and when we tried to use our room key card to charge lunch, it was denied. Strange we thought, since the card is usually available to charge right away, which is also what we were told when they handed them to us. Okay, no big deal. We called the resort around 1:30, room not ready. Walked around some more, called again at 2:30, room not ready. No problem, we know check-in isn't suppose to begin until 4pm anyway. At 3:30 we called again, and were told to come to the front desk when we got to the resort.
So, we get back to the BCV around 4, I go to the front desk, the CM takes my room keys, says there is a problem but doesn't know what it is, and hands me new room keys, which she says, are for a room on the 3rd floor. Okay, I was a little disappointed, because we WERE asked if we had a preference, and were TOLD 1st floor was available, but hey, we're in Disney, so what?
We go up to our room, which had a lovely view of the BCV quiet pool. I thought, okay, this is good. Then I had to go to the bathroom, and darn it, I realized we were in a handicapped room!!! I was not happy! I absolutely hate the shower, which is basically a cubby hole with a hole in the floor and a shower curtain. There is also no counter with stools in the kitchen, and the refrigerator is smaller as it is shorter in height. Now I'm annoyed, and don't know what to do. The view is great, but honestly, I'd rather be looking at garbage cans than have a handicapped shower.
I called the front desk to inquire very nicely if there was another room we could be switched to that wasn't handicapped. The CM said, "oh, you have one of our "accessible" rooms? Uh, yea, if that is what you want to call it. She then said, "sorry, but everyone has checked in for the day". So I said, yes, but WE checked in at 10:30 am, and were told we had a room on the 1st floor, and were given keys that later did not work. To that she basically said "too bad". She did say they could move us in the morning. I said, no thanks.
I'm not really sure what the point of my whole story is, LOL, other than don't believe everything you're told, and if you don't want an "accessible" room, then list it on your reservation when you make it, even though that doesn't guarantee you won't get one. I'm just glad we didn't have the kids with us this time as we would have really missed that breakfast counter and stools.
