Just Got A Call From Disney

This unfortunately seems to be a growing trend. When I went to check in at the ASMu last year I was assigned a building 3 back, not the preferred room I had booked. The CM told me it was because so many people decided to extend their vacations, and Disney was unable to force them out.

I wouldn't be surprised that it was the discounted rate that affected your status as well, regardless of what you were told. You may be paying $3,000.00 for your nine night stay but there are other people playing close to double that for theirs (I have a friend who is a CM so I know what the discounts can run to in the off season) and they will want to keep them happy first I would expect. It may not be "right" but it is what it is. If they are going to downgrade/move people, they will start with those paying the least amount for the room, it doesn't surprisse me at all, be it a CM discount, AP or whatever.

I hope you enjoy your trip even with this bit of a disappointment. You have alot to celebrate, try not to let it ruin it for you.

Hear hear! When I read that the OP was paying $3,000 for a 9-night stay - especially LVC -- I thought, "Geeez, must be nice!"

I hope it works out for the OP. But if it turns out to be the case that this is the reason they got bumped, then it wouldn't surprise me either.

The squeaky wheel may get the grease, but money talks, too.

:firefight

Honest, receiving a terrific discount for a deluxe and complaining about being moved from expected room level. That discount is a courtesy discount, they are not required to offer it and it is a priviledge to get to use it. The 1 y.o. will have no clue of what the view is, so this is more important to the parents. I would go, enjoy and great resort at a fabulous rate and be glad that I had the chance to experience such a great rate. Those who think that compensation is due here should grow up. Any difference in the discounted room rate should be refunded and that is all. This is someone else(a non-cm) using a cm's discount. It is a benefit to the cms and a courtesy to the user. I would not be causing any issues about it, as the repercussions will be reflected in future restrictions on redemptions of the discounts. :stir:

Personally, I'd demand to know why I was being bumped and not one of the other 200 people. I'd complain angrily and loudly and not stop until I got my way.

I understand the disappointment, but honestly don't think that is the best way to handle a situation like this. What kind of example does that set for a child?

Personally, if I was at the Polynesian, I wouldn't be willing to go to great lengths to accommodate a guest who is behaving as you have described, I wouldn't care if they paid full price or were comped the room.

Well, I don't have children but I would want my daughter if I had one to see that when you pay for something, you don't just accept it and shrug when someone takes it away.

And I worked in customer service for 5 years after college and know from experience that loudest and the ones who don't back down and climb the ladder are the ones who usually get what they want. So I think the people at the Poly probably WOULD jump through hoops to accomodate someone who was clear that they were not going to back down.

Disney had a HUGE glitch in their system that allowed the resorts to be over booked last weekend. I personally know some that were bumped from the CBR up to SS..not a bad upgrade! :thumbsup2 Unfortunately, these things happen and it is not nice nor acceptable in some cases....but it still happens. There is nothing worse than planning a vacation for months only to have it cahnge last minute! I feel for all that had last minute changes and hope that they still had a "magical" time regardless!

No doubt! :thumbsup2 See, sometimes these "glitches" benefit guests where as others are inconvenienced....no telling. Hope you had fun!

Oh we did. And now we're probably going to have to stay concierge on our next trip....grrr...we were all set to go cheap next time then they had to go throw concierge at us.

Good grief....people pay those prices!!!!! And then others wonder why Disney World is getting so expensive!

I think those are concierge rates, not regular rooms. After staying concierge last weekend, I can definately see paying for it (at least at resorts where getting back to the resort from the parks is quick and easy) and probably will on my next trip (it was a free upgrade this time). We barely spent money on food or drinks or snacks. It gave us a good excuse to come back to the resort and relax.

I completely agree, I would highly bet it was the CM discounts that went first and I would highly doubt that anyone from WDW would tell the OP that. But - think about it....if you paid rack rate and someone else paid half price and the rack rate person was bumped wouldn't you be pissed? Of course, you may not know unless you frequent the DIS!

so after reading all that i gots qwestions!!
1. where do you rent points?
2. how do you find out about the discounted rates and cm rates etc?
3. how do you differentiate between the different types of rooms?
(we've only stayed in the value resorts so far but this may have really botched it up for us now...)

and a comment..
southwest is a great airline; the cheapest flights are non refundable, but you can put the money you used for the flight into a "holding pattern" for 12 months if you can't go or you were going to go with grands or whatever that end up not being able to go..
also you can switch your flight to cheaper if available as they have specials all the time; and they are so easy to do yourself..
we have a credit card thru them and i have gotten 7 free round trips so far in 2 years (.5 credit to go for # 8) just by using it at grocery stores, to pay electric bills, gasoline, etc...
some credit cards are better to just get money back on , but it comes a little at a time and i would never save it that way.. so i buy my tix when i want them if they are cheap or i use my free flights if it's last minute or it is more convenient... hope that helps..
oops, second comment;
on griping...
i agree that getting a great deal is kind of like whining about the free potatoes on a free meal, but at the same time, next time don't offer the meal for free if you can't cook... 500.00 a nite is a lot for me.. i think it always will be, but when you get a great deal and enjoy staying somewhere so nice, you're more apt to tell people what a great place it is , how great the service is, etc, etc, and more inclined to pay the full price if you have to the next time you go.. spoiled, i'd say..
cancelling a great res without making someone feel special seems like really bad word of mouth, not to mention karma... have a great day!! kathye :hippie: chic

Last I was told, Hawaii is the only state where hotel guests can be evicted at the end of their reserved stay.

If you are downgraded you should get at least the same number of dollars' discount off of rack rate if you got a discount at booking. That works out to a larger percentage discount.

Alternatively you can ask for other specific perks. Extra fast passes or relief from having to buy park tickets with your package (accomplished using a buy back) would not be unheard of.

A "CM" is a cast member who works for the Walt Disney Company. My guess is the friend in this instance works at WDW - so you couldn't get a "CM discount" unless you knew someone who worked there. There are other discounts for AAA members and annual passholders. Check out www.mousesavers.com to learn about other ways to save money at WDW. :)
