Just for fun, what could Disney do to incentivize direct purchases?

I don't want this to become two people arguing on the internet over something neither of them have any idea about, which is what most legal arguments on the internet amount to. To be fair, I didn't say I would sue and win, only that I'd sue. What reason? Because DVC's official marketing information, and the information from my guide explicitly stated that buying direct is the only way to have access to the current resorts + Riviera. You are a wealth of information on most DVC things, but when it comes to DVC contract, you seem to have a blind spot for Disney. Corporations can and do write illegal and/or unenforceable terms into their contracts, and also violate their own terms all the time and then welcome you to spend the money to battle their legal departments over it. Few people do, which is why it's gotten so bad in the last few decades.

Actually I don’t but am someone who was sharing that the current rules and documents allow for it.

Grandfathered resale is not something someone can buy anymore, you had to have a contract that was drafted before the restrictions were put in place. How did my guide have no idea what she was talking about? It clearly says it right on the DVC marketing page as well.

Sure, the restrictions were put into place. The whole point of this thread is talking about theoretically un-putting them into place, which I agree will never happen.

I mean I'm not sure why we are arguing when the clear solution is to sell a tiny little, expensive piece of the Star Wars hotel. Win-win for everyone.

I think that was true at one time, but not so much so now. Too much info out there.
I completely agree, even a basic “Disney vacation club” Google search will return some links on resale, I would guess the only buyers that remain unaware are those that buy on the spot while on vacation.

And they've got 10 days rescission period to get educated.

Right, I really can’t imagine that many people make a $25k-$50k purchase without at least a brief Google search... but then again we’re here on the DIS which means we’re a very different type of consumer in general

The same could be said about many other timeshares but they still sell.

Absolutely! My very educated former BIL bought one but wouldn't touch Disney because he was one and done with Disney. Many years ago he advised us not to buy any timeshare.

Something changed his mind because now he owns several. And I could never lock myself into the 'forever' deals.

Then your guide has no idea what he is talking about because that has never been true. Grandfathered resale is included, so is cash, so is gratuitous transfer, there are lots of ways to get access that aren't buying direct.
If Gf77 is either not currently a DVC Member, or just recently bought a resale membership, what the guide told him is true - assuming he wants his membership to be used for both the current resorts and Riviera. Based on his previous posts, I believe he just very recently purchased a fixed week at CCV and that is his first DVC contract.

Back to the original question - I think I’ve got the ultimate idea that will make Direct DVC fly off the shelves - Air conditioned monorail cars with open bar! Direct owners only - no RRR allowed (Resale Riff Raff)

Open bar.... Christ, I would buy in and just ride the loop for hours everyday. No need for park tickets or room ressies.

.... and I’d still come out ahead. No analysis required.

Free Gold AP or upgrade to Platinum AP for $300 up to 6 per household. Members lounge at every park. 1 additional fast pass per day, free airport shuttle, designated Fantasmic viewing area, free magicband once per year (AP perk but also if you are not AP), thank you for being members gift once a year (lithograph, magnet, etc.), discounted TIW for $100/year, discounted owner's locker depending on point ownership (25 percent off for 100 pts or less, 35 % off for 101-200, 50 % off for 200 -500 and free for 501 pts or more), OTU points purchase option up to 50 pts., 20% discount on merchandise AND dining including alcohol and specialty drinks at table service and quick service locations, 20% discount on cruises and ABD, discounted members tickets, and 10% add on discount. This would be direct (blue card) purchase benefits.

Just give me discounts on regular tickets and I'll buy direct. We do not like to go to the parks everyday so an AP has no interest to me.

I am hoping that the current deal they did is a sign we may get this more often. From all the posts here and elsewhere that I have seen...not to mention it’s impact on call wait times...it seems like a success!!!

Sold!

I think some good ideas but will throw some of mine in (sorry if any repeats). Generally I’m thinking of benefits which likely help Disney as well by encouraging more spending rather then being cost sinks.

1) day ticket discounts and ap discounts; should be at least as good as Florida resident discounts or slightly better/partially stackable for Florida residents to get some benefit
2) extend dining discount to all dining including discount on dining plans; have it partially stackable with other discounts (tiw/ap) so benefit holds
3) run more dvc cash room discounts, again should at least match what’s offered for Florida resident
4) not sure legality but I’ve wondered if they could prioritize direct points on the pixie dust room upgrades or maybe even find way to give “welcome home” treatment to pull from their inventory to help members find availability for hard booking categories when using direct (likely would hurt dvc cash bookings to much if always available but having some way to sprinkle in the magic).
5) something id say I worry about more “punishing” resale rather then benefit for direct would be if they decide to only offer on site benefits for adr/fp/park pass booking windows only to direct members/direct points. Not sure if this would be against contract languages but given resale restrictions I worry Disney is open to punish rather then reward if they legally can.

I do not believe any level of upgrading could be included to some vs all. I do think that would violate the terms of not only the contract but possible timeshare laws too.
