Just bumped from OKW Grand Villa

Does anyone know the dates of the huge press event for the grand opening of Mission: Space? Just wondering if that could be affecting room space they need.

October 9th If you look at the calendar of hours you will see that EPCOT closes very early (3PM) to allow for the set-up for the MS press thing.

Wow, my heart just sank. We are booked in a Grand Villa for October 19 for 12nights. We are having our family from Texas meet us there and we've been talking up this Grand Villa for the past 11 months!!! The kids are all so excited about a two story condo. I'm sorry to hear the bad news for you and would definately demand something better than what they have offered you. I plan on calling in the morning to find out what's going on. Good luck to you!!!
I can hear the call now. DVC says, I was going to call Joe Blow but since you're on the phone, have I got a deal for you. You're the lucky contestant to get two 2 BR instead of a GV.
Then you'd have this year's trip, and still have the GV to look forward to for next trip.
There would be no way to do this for a sold out resort. What they could do is guarantee them they won't get bumped next time IF they legally schedule a GV again.

I doubt DVC "holds back" GVs for cash ressies. I am also sure that who got bumped had to do with how long out it was booked. Having to call five other folks probably means those were the other ressies for that one GV for the entire time it will be down. The fact that it happened so close to the trip leads me to believe something really bad happened to that unit. I would gladly take the extra kitchen, extra whirlpool tub, extra laundry room, and aske them to insure that you will be near each other. You will get a free trip, and someone else besides you in your party will get to enjoy a master suite too! I can think of lots of upsides to this scenario. Start thinking positive, and get your guests excited with you. Use the kitchen in the unit you are staying in as command central for meals etc. It actually sounds like fun to me! Last time we had a GV, we had 11 people in it, and the laundry was never resting! There is also no way for the entire group to sit in the living room at the same time unless some are children.

HAVE A GREAT TRIP!:)

While I was VERY sympathetic yesterday (and still am), today is a brand new day! :sunny: I like what dianeschlicht is saying! Now it's time to get excited about the change and look forward to all the "extras"--and the extra points for next year's vacation!

Thank you all so much for your feedback and support! :) My DW and I have decided to take the offer of the 2 two bedroom villas, AND the extra points for next year. Don't get me wrong, I am still very excited to be going to Disney World in one month! :bounce: I am just a little dissapointed of course. Now everyone will have an actual bed, and my DW and I will have a King (we were going to give that to her parents). I know that it will all work out, and we will have a wonderful time! I can't wait to post our trip report! :)

I would still be interested to know how several GV go out for "refurbishment" at the same time:confused:
(Or at least I thought that is what the OP had said earlier, that the individual at MS still had more calls to make.)
Hope your trip goes well.

mcr5298--I would have felt the same as you when I received the news. I cannot imagine the look on your face when you got the phone call. I probably would have been ready to shoot the messenger.

It appears that you have now come full circle and are accepting the deal that DVC is offering, which is a good one, still a disappointment. I hope your trip is very Magical. Your guests will still be "wowed" and impressed with their accommodations.

Mary....I hope you have a great trip! Flexibility in handling the curves that life throws us is important, and it sounds like you've managed to maintain your enthusiasm despite this disappointment.

And speaking only for myself, I think Disney went WAY above and beyond in handling the situation. Let's face it...they've got our money and could take an entirely different approach. But what they've offered seems very generous to me. :)

Disney is known for great customer service, and its to keep the customer coming back. Repeat business is BIG bucks.

DVC, while a bit different has it's own reputation to keep clean. If Disney DID NOT make good on situations like this it will be ALL OVER public bulletin boards such as this. Word would spread, and fewer people would be willing to join DVC. They would loose big bucks in new members. Offers like this might go away if they ever stop selling DVC!

Question: Why not call everyone with a GV reservation (I have no idea, but aren't there very few?) during the problem period and offer them all the deal (think an overbooked flight). Then who ever accepts first gets the deal. Then THEY are happy and no one is FORCED to take two bedrooms when they REALLY want that GV. I really don't see a huge added cost to owners if Disney is placing people in units that would have sat empty anyway.

Also - I may have missed it, but has anyone determined WHAT happened to this (these?) Grand Villas? Don't owners of OKW deserve a straight answer?

Ok, all done now! :)

I just got off the phone with memeber services to re-confirm our Grand Villa for 10/19-10/31. I mentioned that I had heard about some Grand Villas not being available for some unforseen referbishment. She did not know what I was talking about. She said she had not heard anything about units not being available due to referbishment or for any other reason!!! She was just able to tell me that my ressie was fine.:)

This seems a bit odd to me, too. I posted about a (not so) similar situation in August, when DD and I checked into our studio at BCV. At the BC desk, with our luggage already checked, we were told they were "oversold" and we were being moved to a studio at OKW. When I didn't roll over and play dead, we eventually got our room at BCV. (If I had been thinking a little quicker, I would have asked for a concierge room at AKL, with reservations for the Sunrise Safari!). Anyway, there was a post on the DIS Resorts board about a week later from a lady whose family was upgraded from a standard room at the Yacht Club to a 2 BR at BCV. Yacht Club had some rooms being renovated, apparently. That would have been the same week we were there (1st week of August) and I know that BCV was at capacity. I wonder who got bumped from their reserved 2 BR, and where they wound up. My point is, DVC point rooms seem to be in the inventory system for Disney resorts, and they shouldn't be. They belong to DVC members, not CRO. Is there anything about this in our by-laws? Diana

I doubt it was more than one GV. The OP said the CM had 5 other folks to call and cancel, and I am sure those were for the 5 other weeks this GV would be out of commission. I am quite sure they don't refurbish something as large as a GV in just one week.

Ok, I'll buy that......that makes more sense. I never thought of it that way.

Hey look one/fifth of my words are "that".... pretty impressive huh?!?
That, that, that, that ,that.......just checking to see how fast I can type "that".....ok... all done, bye, bye

mcr5298, I sympathize with you. I would have had the same reactions you did. After you plan and dream about something for months and then have it drastically changed like this, its just really upsetting. When this type of thing usually happens to me though, I end up really getting all upset and then it turns out fine in the end. I hope that is what happens for you. It sounds as if from your last post that you are already starting to think positive. Like you said, everyone will have their own beds now and you get a master bedroom. Woo Hoo! And a whirlpool tub! Have a wonderful trip!

MCR5298 I'm glad you feel better about the situation. And I'm impressed and reassured at how well Disney handled the situation. But most importantly ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY Your taking your little one and family to Disney World. It doesn't get better than that.:D

Yes and it states that they can be turned over to the inventory system for Disney resorts. This, of course, is paraphrased. Read your documents, it is in there.

yes, it was me that booked the yc on cash and when we checked in to my surprise we were told that the room was available do to some weather condition problem, was not sure what that meant. we went the first week of aug. during all that rain everyday.
when the front desk told us that they had moved us to the bcv and i told her that i already checked my luggage with the yc and i was very disappointed, because we never stayed at the yc yet and we can always stay at the bvc because that is our home resort. the lady at the front desk just looked at me and said i will call over there to find out if your room is ready. then she said yes, your 2 bedroom was ready, ok, believe me i got over the disappointment with the yc very fast and now im getting nerves that i have to pay more money for the 2 bedroom. as we were being checked in by the yc front desk for the beach club villas, the girl said before you leave my manager would like to talk to you, now im getting really nerves, how much is this going to cost me, im thinking i can always borrow points. the manager came out and told me that my concierge keys will be brought to my room asap, i couldnt believe what i was hearing, i finally asked how much extra for the room and concierge, and can i use my points, the front desk just said that as of now you have a 0 bal. unless you charge something during your stay and told me to have a magical day! i said i already did and its great to be home again, how awesome was that !

as far as the op, i am very sorry that you didnt get your GV, i know how disappointed you felt, but look at the awsome upgraded that was just offered to you, 2-2 bdr and all your points back and banked for next year. not only will your family be impressed with dvc, they will be very impressed with you for making it very magical for them this year and next year. can i be your distant family too, if not i can stick to being your disboard family.
sending pixie dust and have a magical vacation this year and next year:sunny:

So glad to hear this is coming to a positive note and that the OP is feeling a bit better.

These are the inconviences as I see them.

You had listed duplicates you would have to buy - how about bringing with you/buying some cheapie containers and split the milk, the cereal, the snacks etc? They do have some containers in each unit - maybe you can use them to do this.

Hey look one/fifth of my words are "that".... pretty impressive huh?!? That, that, that, that ,that.......just checking to see how fast I can type "that".....ok... all done, bye, bye

Tee hee. Your screen name sure does fit!

;) ;) ;) ;)

dancind and the OP, you both feared better than we did about 5 years ago when we checked into DxL and was told they had no rooms!!! We had a confirmation number to boot! WE got moved to Carribean Beach for one night and then back to DxL the next night!! It was a short trip and we only stayed 3 nights/4 days!! WE got 1 free day at MK!!!

We spent 2 days moving/packing/unpacking etc.......and only really had time to enjoy the parks for 1 day opposed to 3!!!

Have a magical trip......................
