Just bumped from OKW Grand Villa

Yes, I am assuming it would be a free trip. Give us the 2 two bedrooms and all our points back.

You ARE being cheated....of your "pixie dust" and "magic"! Part of the fun of a trip is the dreaming before and after! Just keep those communication lines open with MS, though. Hopefully they'll come up with a workable solution for you!

If they would through in your passes, I would probably do it. 2 free villas and all your points, for next trip. Or would they put you up in the presidential suites at the Contemporary or something???

If it were me, I would contact Jackie Lueders for the straight scoop on what is going on. She will be honest with you.

You can call her at 800-800-9800 and ask for her or email her at members@disneyvactionclub.com (subject: ATTN JACKIE LUEDERS).

At the very least they should guarantee that your party will be in the same building...none of this your preferences will be noted but, of course, they cannot be guaranteed. Jackie or an MS supervisor needs to get on the phone with the resort manager and work the room placement out for you.

Just to make it interesting, ask which GV is going to be renovated; then check while you're there to see whether it is really happening.

Keep us up to date on what happens...

Good luck!

While I understand your concern and being upset, you're getting quite a good deal. Even at the 2 for 1 it's a good deal. Remember what they give you will most likely come out of our pockets in one way or another. Technically they don't even have to give you another room if your room isn't available, they could just cancel even if it meant losing points though it's not the Disney way. My guess is they've just decide to make some change or do some repairs like replace the flooring. I sincerely doubt they are giving your room to someone else and feeding you a line. Still, you should check it out and let us know what you can find out.

Since your most important aspect was to share the magic with your family, suggest they treat the entire family to a nice dinner at Olivia's or even at Artist Point, etc. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

It has to be very disappointing.. If they can get you all in the same building maybe it can help too. I mean if you look at the positive, you are getting to use 2 2-bedroom units for free basically.. And you will be at OKW.. I know if you have your heart set on the GV, but at least you will have free accomodations...

Wow. I guess it makes sense that this could happen, but it's scary to hear it actually did. Disney's offer is great for YOU, but your family members who were going for "free" anyway certainly won't have the same experience in 2 2-bdrms as they would have in a GV. I'm always hyping DVC and Disney to my family, and I would feel just like you do if this happened to me. I'm hoping to get one for our extended family one day, and I would be VERY disappointed if this happened to us. I agree with the posters who have suggested perhaps Disney could cover your park tickets. That way, your family will feel like they're getting something for their inconvenience as well.

Just a quick question to those familiar with resort budgeting, will the cost of this "free" stay they offered the OP be put into next year's annual dues to recoup the loss?

I would have a hard time believing they did a lot of bumping at the last minute for the golf tournament. That is planned so far in advance.....

And I wouldn't think they would cancel DVC ressies, but still have cash ones available, if it was this type of situation - they would give them the cash rooms.

I could believe that there was a very big mistake made in the reservations system that allowed these GVs to be booked and it wasn't realized - or that there is another unforseen situation that will make them not accessible for a long period of time (i.e. infestations, termites?).

Or maybe they had planned maintenance and actually forgot to take them out of availability?

But regardless - I would be thrilled with the offer of 2/2br and keep all the points. Yes the disappointment would be there - but it would vanish when I realized I could book yet another vacation! I don't care what the reason is - I would take the offer in a heartbeat! I would ask them to guarantee rooms in the same building.

Look forward to the future and enjoy the trip!

I would go for the 2 2 bedrooms free. That is a great deal to get your points back. I would also ask for free park passes for your group. They gave us passes when they changed our reservation once. We were booked in a GV at OKW and they had to change us to a GV at BWV. They had overbooked. It was an upgrade for us and we loved it, but they also gave us free passes for all 12 of us for the entire stay of a week. I wouldn't hurt to ask.

OK. I get the point. Now I feel guilty about getting screwed and making everyone else pay for my "Free" Trip.

I would RATHER pay my fair share and keep my Grand Villa. It is not a pratical thing.

Yes, four bedrooms are better then three.
Yes a "Free" trip is better then a paid one.

But:
We have spent a year getting excited about getting our family together and staying together in a GV.

This inconvience really puts a damper on my trip. Now my daughters grandparents might be in another building?

I am sure that somewhere in the budget my "Free" stay will show up somewhere. Maybe under the cost of the refurbishment?

I didn't make the choice to do the refurbishment now. It might be someone trashed the room. I don't know. I am gathering from the scope of this affecting other rooms it is something else. Maybe it is just poor planning. Do I have to cover the cost of their poor planning?

I guess I am going to have a hard sell to those on these boards who think pratically on how this displacement upsets me.

I am glad to see many people agree with how this would be a bad start to long anticipated trip. Thank you.

I dont know much about DVC, but is it possible they could book you a grand villa at another resort? Like BCV?

Deb

There aren't any Grand Villas at BCV or VWL either.

ncr5298,

Don't feel bad or guilty. You're right. You did spend a lot of time planning.

It's not your fault that this happened.

If there is anyone to be upset at about dues going up it should be someone at DVC for not planning ahead of time or the people who may or may not have trashed the rooms.

To some people, all of you being under one roof may not seem important but it obviously is to you or you wouldn't have booked the GV in the first place.

I think something similar in size and sleeping capacity would be a fair offer. That's why I was thinking of a suite somewhere on Disney property.

What they are offering you does sound nice but only do what you feel comfortable with.

I understand your disappointment, but IMHO they are really bending over backwards to make you whole. Two 2BR plus allowing you to bank all of the points is a darn good deal and one that I would take them up on. Try to make the best of the situation and, if possible, offer your guests the same deal--another trip as a bonus for not getting just what you wanted! Just a thought. Hope it works out for you.

I am so sorry that this has happened. When you plan something so far in advance you don't expect something like this to happen. Someone else mentioned a GV at another resort. Have they checked at BWV to see if the GV there is open, even for part of your stay? I think they should put you at the top of the wait list for both the OKW and BWV GV's so if someone cancels at the last minute, you will still get your GV. Good luck and lots of pixie dust coming your way!

I know its not what you want, but if being under the same roof is so important, why don't you see if you can book an offsite house for this trip? It isn't the magic of DVC and its offsite, but you would all be together.

You can pay for it by renting out those points they are willing to let you bank, and trade this years two bedrooms for park tickets and dinner.

They can't give you a suite unless they have it. And if the PGA is in town, they probably don't have it. Tiger may be staying at his place, but there are a 100 other golfers in town, and all the Fortune 500 executives that go to those things. A month out, its pretty astounding they have two two bedrooms to give everyone they are kicking out.

I'd be mad as matchsticks as well, but they can't build a Grand Villa for you in a month and you don't have much recourse.

Don't get me wrong it is a GREAT deal.

The problem is that it is arrival in 30 days. Food and wine festival. The other GVs are booked.

I am done complaining. I am going with the 2 two bedrooms.

i would jump on that deal, and hope that it happens again!!!! Have a great trip!!

We have a GV @ OKW that same week (?). What are your dates? Maybe we could switch. 2 2 bdrms would be ok for us. We have 2 different families going. Let me know if your interested and the dates work.
