Just bumped from OKW Grand Villa

Buzzro, how nice of you!

mcr5298, you have every right to be upset and to vent but I hope you realize that given the circumstances, DVC is doing the best they can to accommodate you. Would you feel better if you could get DVC to guarantee that you would be in the same building/next to each other? Seems like they might be able to do that for you given your situation. I can certainly understand the rational "yes, they are being more than fair" but I can also understand wanting to vent that you worked so hard to plan this and it isn't going to happen the way you planned it. You have my sympathy but maybe you can have the "free" trip this year and book at 11 months to give it another try NEXT year with all of the points they let you keep.

It is a bitter disappoitment after all your planning. I totally understand.

However, if something unforseen did happen and the OKW GV's are out of commission, then there really isn't much DVC can do to give you a GV. I'm glad they did offer you something to help compensate you for your disappointment and for disrupting your plans.

It's very generous. Think about the fact that you can use those extra points to book the exact vacation you were planning. Consider this the "free" trip.

Mother Nature has caused many people to cancel trips and reschedule for later. Pretend your GV trip needed to be rescheduled and in the meantime you get to go on a bonus trip.

Hope you have a great time in October. It probably won't feel so bad while you are there enjoying the magic.

I forgot to mention that I'm not concerned about the free points or any other extras, I just thought it might help you out. I don't want to come across like I'm trying to score your deal.

Did they say how long the "refurbishment" would last? We've booked a GV for Nov 1-9 and now I'm a little concerned. How did they choose you to be bumped out--what is due to your home resort?

mcr5298,

You're allowed to vent--I'm sure we all would in this situation! I've been reading all these posts and yes, the "free trip" is a generous one and I'm sure you agree, too. Still, for so many of us DVC'ers, part of the fun is in the planning and dreaming. After the dust settles, I'm sure you'll still have a great trip but for today it's aggravating. So--"vent" today, "dream & plan" tomorrow!! In the end, you'll probably make lemonade out of these lemons!

Buzzro, how nice of you! That's the true Disney spirit! :sunny:

I am resigned to the fact that this happened and they have offered me a good deal in return.

They didn't mention how long the "refurbishment".

My dates are 10/19 - 25.

These are the inconviences as I see them.
Two of everything. Now we need two cans of coffee, two creams. Two cartons of milk, two boxes of cereal, and so on. Soda, snacks...

We are going with my DWs sister, husband and their kids, and their parents and Aunt. We had late nights scheduled out, that the grandparents were going to baby sit while we were out.

Having one space just makes everything more convient.

I am glad to see you have realized that Disney has really tried to bend over backwards to accomodate this unfortunate incident.
In reference to one of the replies - I noticed that you said you booked yours 8 months out (and usuall the GVs are gone at the 11 month window) maybe you were first on the list to get bumped because your reservation was the latest.
I have done multi family trips (with built in baby sitters) in both multi room setup and the GV. You may be surprised at how well 2 2brs will work. ( I personally like this set up better).
Remember you will be at Disney - and a bad day there is better than a good one anywher else.

Just seconding (or twenty-seconding?) the most common opinion here: I, too, would be really, really upset. But then I guess I would be excited about being able to keep the points. I dream that in a few years we would take my girls' grandparents with us for a big trip down, and I would love to get a GV. If we had two two-bedrooms, I wouldn't be sure how to split us up! But I think it's pretty great that they were trying so hard to compensate for a big mistake.

mcr5298, it shouldn't be quite a complicated as that. In HH this past summer we had three 2 BR units at Marriot's Grande Ocean. All were in the same building and two on the same floor with the other 2 floors down. We just used on unit for the headquarters and then the other two units had the basics they'd need for snacks, drinks, coffee and the like. It wasn't an inconvenience at all and I'd personally prefer the extra master BR, Master BA and extra space. In 1999 we purposefully got a 2 BR and 2 studios rather than a GV. We were glad we did.

I agree the Grand Villa would be fabulous! However, more beds and more room will be great! Plus, all your points to bank! WOW! With all the points banked you could schedule the entire event for next year's F & W or take a Disney Cruise or splurge on Concierge, trade with Interval the possibilities are enormous! We will be there the same time in a 2 bedroom. Can't wait!

Have a good time!

I can see your disappointment. It is a shame that it had to happen and I am assuming that since your reservation was made at 8 months opposed to 11 months out, you were the first to get bumped!!!

I hope the 2 2 bedrooms work out for you and you and your family have a magical stay.....

Best of luck...

Persronally, I think that you should count yourself lucky for getting an OKW GV at eight months out during the F & W festival.

...if the room needed some unplanned refurb., a bunch of guests trashed it. We all hate to think of that, but it could happen. Pipe could have burst - maybe even a fire in the kitchen.

My initial thoughts were that this was horrible for you because you had your heart set on the GV.

It sounds like you will be happy with the 2 rooms and the point situation they are offering.

Let us know how your trip goes and enjoy.:D

Who knows maybe this is a blessing.Good luck with your room locations.

I think what bothers me about this is that he is only 30 days out from check-in and even though there are cash villas, and this is a forceable move, there is nothing Member Services will/can do to move him into one of the GVs that are designated cash.

Why can't this GV that is going under refurb be the designated cash villa, especially since no one has booked it, and accomodate the OP's group in a different GV?

That seems to be the best way. You'd think that with the golf tourney, if those cash GVs were going to be booked, they would have been booked by now. Why leave it empty when you can juggle inventory and make a member's trip happy?

I must have missed where there is a cash GV available. Is that correct?

I would ask to be moved to a BWV GV. If those are also unavailable, I think you are getting an excellent deal. This is really one of the upgrades we sometimes read about in reverse. Sometimes a studio is unexpectedly damaged (water, etc.) and the people are bumped to a one-bedroom. There is a problem with the GV and there is nowhere to bump you up...however, I think they have made a more than fair offer. I know you're disappointed but they may end up working out quite well. Sometimes there can be too much togetherness on these family trips -- a little space sometimes works out well. ;)

Tiger and many of the other golfers sleep in their own beds in their nearby homes. When Greg Norman played he often flew in by helicopter from his home in Hobe Sound. My guess is that those that stay on property are at the GF or Poly since they are closest to the course they use.

Just a quick question to those familiar with resort budgeting, will the cost of this "free" stay they offered the OP be put into next year's annual dues to recoup the loss?

Essentially, yes. It will be an expense for the resort. Guess who pays the expenses at each DVC resort. ;)

Wow, my heart just sank. We are booked in a Grand Villa for October 19 for 12nights. We are having our family from Texas meet us there and we've been talking up this Grand Villa for the past 11 months!!! The kids are all so excited about a two story condo. I'm sorry to hear the bad news for you and would definately demand something better than what they have offered you. I plan on calling in the morning to find out what's going on. Good luck to you!!!

Not a DVCer. though I hope to be upon grad school graduation, but just a thought for the OP, could you ask DVC to gaurantee you a GV for next year's trip so you won't have to go through the 11/8 month booking ordeal?

Then you'd have this year's trip, and still have the GV to look forward to for next trip.

Have a great trip no matter what. Pixie Dust to you and your group!
