thats disgusting.. its one thing that you have to deal with rude people everyday but disney is the one escape.. these people cant ruin the disney magic!.. maybe now that the problems are getting worse the cm will eventually start cracking down..? :confused3

Okay, just back from OKW, and I have to add my small list of disgusting thing we saw/experienced too. The smoking thing bugs the heck out of me too. I think they should more strongly enforce that rule. Not once, but twice, we had things stolen from us, within a 24 hour period. Now I know we aren't the first to have this happen to them, but this was our first time experiencing this. The first time we were having dinner at LTT in MK, and when we came out, our baked goods and my daughter's spray bottle was gone. Now shame on us for leaving them in the stroller, but my mother in law didn't think for a minute that someone would steal her croissants and cinnamon rolls that she had purchased, and as for the spray bottle, she said they must have needed it more than we did. But they were stealing from a 3 year old, that's so sad. The second day, at MGM, someone stole our stroller. It was replaced, needless to say, but if you can spend $60 plus dollars for a ticket to get into the park, you don't have enough money to rent a stroller??? Lastly, while watching the new Disney Dreams Parade (not as good as Share a Dream Come True), I had to watch a mother repeatedly spank her child's bum (like half a dozen or more times) right in front of me. Won't open up that box, but didn't appreciate having to see it. Did I mention my daughter having to ask why someone stole her stroller???

We still had a good time.......

I saw someone washing their childs poopy butt off in the bathroom sink of Peco Bills cafe last September. Some people have no class :sad2: .

Unfortunately all of these problems stem from the selfish attitude our world has taken. "I'll do what I want, and don't you dare tell me I'm wrong." The part that burns me up about the smoking thing is that they "hide their cigarette in their hand thinking that perhaps they won't get spotted. They know it's wrong. They just don't care. Hacks me off every time.

Having grown up in South GA, the love bugs are just a part of life. I don't think there's anything DIsney can do about them. There is a time during the year wher you just know you'vegot to wash your car a little more often cause you're going to have a grill full of live bugs.

I'm sorry your trip was bad. We'll be down there for 12 days starting this Wednesday. I am expecting that we'll witness these kinds of behavior. What's sad is we know its going to be there. Used to, I expected that stuff at Six Flags, but not at Disney. But I think our societies have gotten so selfish that even at DIsney, I know it will happen there too.

Best thing I know to do about it is prayer and example. And I try my best to do both.

Blessings!

The incidents mentioned on this thread are really sorry. As a solo traveler I am sometimes (but not often), very glad that I'm traveling alone and not responsible for trying explain such rude behaviour to my own children, or grandchildren, (or on a recent visit to WDW, my great grandchildren.)

On my solo trips, when I see such misdeeds, I just stare long and hard at the person responsible, but say nothing. I do agree that it is Disney's job alone to enforce the rules.

You know, I've thought a lot about this lately, and the only thing I can come up with is that the further our society moves away from God, the worse things become (now, I am a Christian, but I respect everyone's right to believe/not believe in my or any other God) - but it's a fact that when our country was more concerned with taking care of each other than ourselves, these sorts of things just didn't happen. My two cents, take it or leave it.

And part of the problem is that no one tells them they are wrong. And not just at Disney. People have learned that if they are sneaky, loud, or mean they will get their way 99% of the time. Just ask any person who works in a field that deals with the public on a daily basis. Why do corporations allow these people, these bullies, to get their way? Don't they realize they are only encouraging bad behavior?

I take serious offense to this. I do not need to be religious to be a good person. Period. Carry on...

No offense meant, but I thought I made it clear in my post that I respected your right to believe or not.

I'll leave it...thank you. I've witnessed plenty of rude and disgusting behaviour from 'religious' people. Being close to God doesn't necessarily make a person 'good'. We are not a religious family, but my kids (all young adults and/or teenagers) commented plenty of times on the rude behaviour of guests when we were vacationing at Disney in August.

My husband and I stayed at Disney a few weeks ago and I too noticed the smoking. It was everywhere- especially in MK! The other thing that annoyed me was that we were staying at a savannah view room at AKL. Whenever the animals were close the us the people at the next room over to us would yell and talk loudly. I was annoyed because it definitely disturbed the animals and then they would walk away. Also, I wanted to see the animals in peace and quiet..I know I can't control what noise other people make but there is a politeness factor. Ugh!

Goofy,
thanks so much for the info. After reading on these boards for over a year and planning a trip-you have saved me sooo much money. I didn't know (and feel stupid now that I didn't) that smoking was allowed ANYWHERE in WDW. So many places are non-smoking now, it never crossed my mind.

I have asthma and have actually tested allergic to tobacco so its a double whammy. I just can't tolerate it at all. I have no ill feelings about smokers Ijust can't tolerate the smoke. My mom smokes, she's tried to quit, and I love her to death. She tries to air the house out before I visit, but sometimes I still have to sneak outside under some pretext or other to get a good breath of frest air and use my inhaler.

Three of my kids are asthmatic as well, so we will not be visiting WDW. If they ever make it smoke free (and enforce it) then I'll reconsider. I am so grateful to you for bringing this up. You probably saved me an ER trip!! As as a nurse, we are the WORST patients,lol....so its a good thing!

Thank you again for your trip report.

People are wheeling and smoking and peeing and it all seems OK.

Not to make light of the situation, but this comment had me :lmao: !

In all seriousness though, I agree with you 100%! The rules should be enforced - especially the smoking in public. The heelys will be a bit harder to enforce until WDW places it in obvious spots like park maps, entrances to parks, etc. The peeing incident? Well, I'm just floored! I would have had a hard time biting my tongue. That is just DISGUSTING! And to teach a small child that that is ok? What is WRONG with people?

Oh, and I won't be getting lettuce next time I eat at Pecos Bills. Ew!

Even though WDW allows smoking in designated areas AND some people ignore that and smoke anywhere they please in the parks, it is quite rare that you are catching the second hand smoke. All WDW restaurants are smoke free and THAT IS enforced! You can request and get a guaranteed non-smoking hotel room based on medical need. It's a shame that you have decided NOT to go to WDW b/c of this thread. I hate smoke and when I was pregnant (in WDW at 8 weeks and 5 months) I did encounter some people smoking wherever and I sure gave them a piece of my mind - PLUS I told CM's and some of them DID enforce it.

I hope that you DO visit WDW someday. It is the most magical place on earth!!!

Honestly, I can't imagine why DW isn't smoke free? :confused3 The smoking doesn't really bother me personally, but to have smokers around children these days is just nuts. We all know better now. Glad I didn't see any public peeing and hope I never do. :sad2: I will hunt down security if I do - argh. We're talking about major diseases that can be passed through that way - kids can become deathly ill from other people's fluids. :furious: DW needs to stop the bad behavior now.

Wait, wait... my favorite is watching a mother pushing her infant in a stroller to sit on a bench and light up as she breastfeeds. How nice was that. And yes, I saw this happen in Epcot right before Illuminations. :sad2: Give that the lady the "Best Mom in the World" award. I guess she thinks breastfeeding is best, even with a smoke hanging from your mouth.... I just wanted to snatch that baby from her arms.

There are lots of crazy people in this world, and most everyone goes to WDW at some time or another. You never know how someone would react, so I am not going to risk getting a punch in the face over someone smoking. There are CM of all levels walking around the parks at all times so why are they not doing anything?[/QUOTE]

Because they don't want to get punched in the face either....
Take it easy on the cast members- it's pretty tough to be the one to have to tell someone they are breaking the rules, especially when you have no idea how they will react. I work in the service industry and I have to do it often and it sucks- sometimes people genuinely understand and stop, sometimes they didn't realize they wer breaking rules at all and sometimes they become irate and aggressive. THere are probably a lot of cast members who feel like it isn't their job (per se) to prevent rule breaking in the parks- that's security's job. That being said- it's all the more important that other guests thank CM's who do step up and try to prevent the obvious rule breaking.

P.S> So sorry about your trip-
The pee people definately should have been kicked out. But just think- now they are full of bad karma- they'll get theirs in the end. :stir:

Warning: not for the squeamish:

Kind of off-topic since it wasn't at WDW, but I had a neighbor a few years back who would not only let her boys pee in the backyard, but would actually encourage them to defecate in the woods (not heavily wooded, mind you) behind the house so they wouldn't dirty her floors coming in and out from playing. EWWWWWW!

(trying to find the "barf" smilie, unsuccessfully....)

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with your statement. My daughter has just returned from the International College Program and worked in Toontown for 3 1/2 months. She enjoyed her experience, but you couldn't pay me $6.40/hr to put up with the kind of abuse she had to deal with every day! The only way WDW can operate, is by hiring college students and seniors because that seems to be the majority of the workforce.

I know my daughter told people to 'butt out' plenty of times. She loved her 'kingdom' and made a point of asking people to follow the rules. She was yelled at, cursed at, and humiliated to the point of crying for all kinds of reasons. People need to remember that the majority of employees at Disney work there because they love all things Disney...why else would you put up with the abuse for $6.40/hr?

I must say, even though we are a polite, considerate family, our daughter's experience really opened our eyes to going out of our way to acknowledge CM's even more. They deserve it!

Part of their job discription in to enforce the rules!!! They are not working for Disney just to enjoy the atmosphere and experience The Disney Magic.
