Just back....the shocking things we saw

I don't think badly of smokers. I personally think smokers have the right to smoke in designated areas. I don't think designated smoking areas should be removed, I think the no smoking rules outside of the designated areas should be strictly enforced by CM's. I saw lots of people smoking in the areas and it is very nice to see and very much appreciated.

I'm so sorry you had this happen. It's the general decline of society and the "me first" attitude.

About smoking. I have been off for a year and 11 days! I have to say when I would go to WDW I would get a map and look for the smoking sections. I don't think it is too hard to ask people to smoke only in those areas. The people who aren't following it are people that if the whole park was smoke free would still try to light up. In May a person walked by holding theirs low and almost burned my 3 year old in the face and I did say something. They put it out and walked away.

As far as the other stuff I won't even comment because I would say something that should not be on the post. Some people are so gross!

Not that the other stuff is ok, but the thing that gets me the most is the smoking. Whole cities have gone non-smoking in public...DW needs to take a lead!

I respectfully disagree... As with many laws/rules, they simply need to enforce what's already there. Smoking isn't illegal, after all. I smoke, and it would never, ever occur to me that it would be even remotely okay to smoke in a place where it wasn't explicitly spelled out as being allowed. I would never in a million years just walk around someplace like WDW with a lit cigarette in my hand.

Things like this -- smoking, peeing anywhere like the world is one big toilet, grabbing food from a buffet with bare hands -- need to be pointed out to people who can do something about it, and then you stick around and make sure something is done about it. If we don't care enough to say anything, why should the CM's care?

just my .02...

Edit: To the OP... I didn't want you to think I was talking to you when I said we need to tell people in charge about these things. I know you said you tried to find a CM, but none were around. That's pretty sad, too! I'm really sorry you encountered so many rude and disgusting people.

And the saddest part about all this is that it will get worse.

I agree, I don't understand why people feel they are so entitled all the time. But to be just down right gross..... there is no excuse.

I'm lucky, I've never seen stuff like this there either... maybe i'm just clueless.

I am also shocked!

This is one of the worst TR I've read in a long time (not your writing g4g - the content of it!) and it was great that you pointed out these things that happened.

But it was also one of the funniest....

People are wheeling and smoking and peeing and it all seems OK.

:lmao:

Funny the way you put it. Not funny about the behaviour!

I can just picture it! ;)

Thanks and maybe, just maybe, one of the offenders will read your comments!

I realize that its not just happening in WDW but everywhere and if you have the guts to say something to someone so rude all you get is a mouth full of fowl language and attitude. :confused3

Toya

I have no problem speaking up to people when they are behaving badly, but you are right with the swearing and attitude. Sometimes I just shrug it off because I don't want to start anything. It's too bad really. Hope you had a solid dose of Disney Magic to erase the bad parts of the trip.

Children on Heelys were everywhere (not to open a can of worms) but they are not permitted in the parks and nobody says anything.

Although we didn't see the other things you witnessed (shudder), we did notice these stupid shoes everywhere and clueless parents who let their kids wheel around through crowds, in lines, etc.

There should be a monetary incentive program for CMs who visibly enforce the rules.

We depend on them to do so as we as guests are not in a position to do much of anything if we see such behavior. We cannot grab someone by the collar and chuck them out the front gate and confiscate their passes, we need paid Disney personnel to do so but there just doesn't seem to be much of a reason to confont unruly guests otherwise.

Maybe if we DISers would thank the CMs that do intervene and take time out of our busy vacation schedules to talk to their management about the great work they did on our behalf they may advance their positions and word might spread.

Like I said, just a thought.

You know what I would have done, although it would have been supremely unDisneylike, I would have gone back to the fixins bar at Pecos Bills, grabbed the whole container of lettuce and put it on her table. When she looked up wondering WTH I was doing, I would have told her -- you stuck your filthy hand in there, so now it's all yours!

As far as the peeing kid goes, I would have just blasted that lady with a long list of germs and organisms that are contained in human waste.

As far as smokers, the best you can do is point it out as much as possible to CMs. I really would write an email to Disney stating that your vacation was negatively impacted by people smoking throughout the park and given that you're so sensitive, you may be looking for another vacation destination in the future.

Sometimes you have to play hard ball. :confused3

People need to relearn their manners and also teach them to their kids.

Also Disney needs to teach their CM's to be more proactive with these types of behaviors. Why have the rules if no one is going to enforce them- they are made for the comfort and protection of all Disney's guests, soon people will become so disgruntled by the lack of action they will start taking vacations elsewhere...

Looking forward to a vacation filled with Magic!

I remember a few years ago I was walking behind a man and a woman who were smoking in the park (MGM to be exact). Their combined smoke looked like steam from a train (honest) and the way the wind was blowing I got a lung full of their smoke and I started to choke. I told them that they are not alowed to smoke in the parks and it is making me choke. They told me to shut the &*@# up and go the ^&*# away. They did not care that my husband next to me is 6'5 and solid muscle. My DH did not say a word because they were not worth it. It was very upsetting, but not worth getting upset over on vacation. We did say something to the mother about the peeing kid because that is beyond (and also if she started anything I definately could have kicked her a$$ :rotfl2: )......

I look at it this way I PAY to go to WDW not the other way around. We are all high paying guests to WDW, we are there to have fun, not police the parks.....that is what CM's are there for. I would assume that is to be expected with the price of admission. They did just raise the price of tickets, so put that money to good use and train the CM's to enforce the rules.

I did find the people at the CR trying to get to the CG very very annoying. It was a common occurance to have these people clogging the somewhat small elevators. The CR was pretty busy when we were there as there was a huge confrence going on, so after waiting a long while for an elevator every evening there was always an idiot family creating a scene. I guess they were getting off the monorail and going to the lobby to get to the 15th floor. I put most of the blame on CR as there should be a BIG sign by the lobby elevators stating that access to the CR is permitted by checking in on the 2nd floor only and there is no access from these elvators to the 15th floor. I think this would solve 85% of the problem, there will always be a small percentage of people that think the rules do not apply to them and will try anyway.

There are lots of crazy people in this world, and most everyone goes to WDW at some time or another. You never know how someone would react, so I am not going to risk getting a punch in the face over someone smoking. There are CM of all levels walking around the parks at all times so why are they not doing anything?

This site cracked me up! I have worked with the public for 24 yrs and It's absolutly amazing how STUPID people can be! As for the cm being to timid, that can be a crap shoot, You're damned if you do damned if you don't. You don't know who you're messing with sometimes ya know? I realize it's their job but It can be scarey to approach someone and call them on their negative behavior. People are NUTS these days. who knows how they will react! :furious:  :furious:

As far as the smoking issue goes, when we were at Epcot a couple of weeks ago my DD7 and I found ourselves walking behind a young couple who was smoking while they walked, holding the cigarettes down by their sides. We were caught in their smoke trail. Our conversation went something like this:

DD: Mommy, that smoke is gross!
Me: Yes I know, it bothers me too.
DD: What if they burn me?
Me: We will just have to not walk near those rude people.
DD: Don't they know they have special places to smoke?
Me: Some people are naughty and don't follow the rules.
DD: That's bad. They should be arrested. And they STINK!

The above conversation was said very loudly so the offending couple definitely could overhear (it was not a crowded evening) and they looked very embarassed and put their cigarettes out.

:lmao: I love your daughter! I need to borrow a kid for such situations!!

What our family loves to do is nominate a family of the day. We watch for bad behavior, bad manners, disgusting things, and then at the end of the day we vote on a winner. At the end of the trip we award the "Golden Possum" to the worst example. We have many fond family memories and quotes from this activity. Our favorite is when a very "hard life" looking mom was yelling at all of her kids, then grabbed the oldest (14ish) and said "You ain't too big to put over my knee!" I say this to my sons (16 and 12) all the time now, and it always makes us laugh. We also saw a nice German couple, with their two teenaged daughters by their side, make out, stick their tongues down each others throats and grab each others bottoms while waiting in line at Pecos. My 12 year old said he lost his appetite and couldn't eat. I said, well at least the girls know their parents love each other. Now whenever we see graphic, excessive affection displays, we say "that is way too Pecos Bills." So for us, it's entertainment. And we have also seen the public pee, this must not be too uncommon. GHuuuuuugh!

Melvin, I am going to use your GOLD POSSUM! Thats great! :rotfl2:

We must have gotten really lucky. Never saw Public Peeing, out-of-place smoking, or any CM's getting bad treatment. The only foulness we encountered always involved parents and children- kids cutting in line and the parents saying nothing, parents using strollers (usually either empty OR occupied by children who are way too old for a stroller and need to get off their butts and walk like the rest of us had to when we were kids! :furious: ) as battering rams, etc. :stir:

OHHHH I remembered another thing that really bothered me to no end. We were in Pecos Bills and it was lunch time so it was really crowded. My DH and I are not table savers we go on line together and get our table. We walked around for a while looking for a place to sit. When we got a seat, I noticed a huge group of people (about 20) with 3 tables put together, eating. The problem was is that they were eating their own brought in food. They didn't even buy drinks at the restaurant. They were all sitting there eating their brought from home sandwiches and kool aid while there were lots of paying customers waiting with their food in hand searching for a place to sit. I don't think this is fair.....am I wrong????
